Must listen to radio - Steve Byk, hour 1 Tuesday, Steve Forbes interview.
Get a real inside look at how Gov Christie operates, as opposed his BS speeches. I see no difference between him and Obama. Both are liars, have no integrity, and their words mean nothing.

Both reward their contributors and screw honest people trying to make a living, and neither one is really concerned with creating or protecting real jobs for real people.

Listen to the story of Monmouth and ask yourself - would I trust this miserable SOB to run the country?

Not me. :ThmbDown::ThmbDown::ThmbDown:

Tuesday's archive is worth a listen too. The first two hours were great. Byk on Rapid Redux, Christie and more.

Haven't heard hour 3 yet. Will get to it. I usually listen to the archived shows late at night etc. Byk's baby has rounded into a nice radio show.

If you aren't listening you are missing out.

Thanks a lot for the heads-up, Tom. I just listened to the first hour.

My username is NJ Stinks because NJ really did stink when it came to opening up account wagering, OTB's, and phone betting. Years went by after NJ voters passed a referendum authorizing all 3 betting vehicles before anything was available.

Even now - at least 10 years later - we have exactly 3 of 15 OTB's that the NJ Racing Commission was supposed to open in conjunction with NJSEA (who runs Monmouth & the Meadowlands) and the Philly Park people who own Freehold and Atlantic City.

Have I mentioned yet that the clowns in Trenton produced a proclamation in Jan. 2001 saying NJ residents could not open wagering accounts with a company located outside of NJ? That was 8 months before the NJ governor actually signed the law allowing account wagering and almost 4 years before the clowns actually got the state-run account wagering program up and running!

The NJ Racing Commission has been full of political appointees for as long as I can remember. I feel bad for John Forbes and I feel bad for the racing fans in NJ. God knows we bet enough for a small state but no matter what happens here, you can be sure the DRF and other major racing publications won't cover it. But if somebody sneezes in NY, KY, or CA the racing press is right there with the tissue.

So now - after all this time - the racing world wakes up and decides that losing Monmouth and the Meadowlands may not really be all that cool. Thanks for nothing DRF and the rest!

I'm pretty tired but I'll add this because it's the truth. The Racing Post would have been all over this story all year. Public pressure would have changed government minds in England. Because people care about horseracing over there. Here we have Steve Byk and a handful of other people fighting the good fight. It's a damn shame.

I just listened to the John Forbes interview. More of the same Horseman crap that I have been hearing for years. Maybe it is new to people to people in NJ but certainly not new to anybody who has followed racing for years. I posted really early when Bailey got involved that the Horsemen would have to make some major concessions to make Monmouth Park work without outside money. Obviously they still aren't willing to make them. It not about racing days, it is about making the price of the product competitive for the gambler. The whole AC casino thing is a rouse. You can debate whether they should get taxpayer money or not if you want, but the idea of making them support horse racing while they are taking state money makes no sense whatsoever.

I though of you, NJ, when I was listening. Frankly, I have not followed the situation because I don't general play Monmouth, but that whole deal just struck me as inexcusable behavior by the Gov. Apparently, he only represents those who grease his palms. You "people of NJ" don't seem to be on his radar.

See, I am Fair and Balanced!:D

See, I am Fair and Balanced!:DYou are probably right the greasing of the palms. All politicians have their hands out. The horsemen of NJ have handed out plenty of grease. They just did it to the wrong politicians. They grease the palms of the democratic leaders of the legislature. Bad mistake on their part. For those who never wonder into the off topics forum, I am a liberal democrat and don't like Christi one bit. But a even a stopped clock like Christi is right twice a day. Clearly this one of those times.

He is right to reneg on a deal he agreed to and put thousands of jobs in jeopardy? If he never should have done it, he never should have agreed to it tin the first place. This is not about racing as much as it is about the man himself. A dirtbag liar with no integrity or honor. And fat to boot! :D

Looks like this is what threw a wrench in the deal.

Christie said the horsemen’s group demanded an additional $5 million in purse subsidies, which is why talks broke off. Forbes said the horsemen were looking for a way to be compensated for not having the license for racing dates at the Meadowlands, which he called “a cornerstone to the deal.”

Two sides of every story.

That demand came AFTER Chrisite went back on his word, didn't it?

Two sides of every story.

John Forbes explains the $5M in his interview with Steve Byk. Forbes comes on about 35 minutes into Hour 1 on Tuesday. He's on the phone with Steve about 20 minutes. (The first 8 minutes or so of the show's first hour deals with Byk's views on the governor, the horsemen, and Monmouth itself.)

Here's the link to Tuesday's show. As Ralph said, the whole first hour is great stuff but the Forbes interview deals specifically with the horsemen's perspective of the current mess.

The 3rd hour is pretty good too. I finally got around to it last night.

Andy and Steve in a nice relaxing conversation about horseplayers and such. If Byk could submit a show for awards, this day would be pretty high up on the list.

Btw, in hour 3 Byk uses the 'C' word............Canard!

Anyone having trouble downloading the pod casts the last couple of days?
It used to take a couple of minutes, but this week, it is over an hour! On several computers, different browsers. Right now, at midnight, it is taking 58 minutes.....fastest time of the week.
