I keep seeing the the Patriots are the #1 seed. I really don't get it.

Here are the records of the Ravens and Pats:

Both are 10-3
Both are 7-2 vs. the AFC
Both are 3-1 vs. the NFC
The Pats are 3-1 in their division- lost to the Bills, beat Miami once and Jets twice
The Ravens are 4-0 in their division
No game head to head
Someone must know something I don't

i think the Ravens are the better team right now. New England has been winning with lots of injuries. they both have great winning programs. they might be a great match up this year.

I don't think Division play counts when breaking ties between non-division foes. It has to go deeper than that.

I just looked, it says for home field among division winners, use wild card tiebreakers:

Two Clubs

Head-to-head, if applicable.
Best won-lost-tied percentage in games played within the conference.
Best won-lost-tied percentage in common games, minimum of four.
Strength of victory.
Strength of schedule.
Best combined ranking among conference teams in points scored and points allowed.
Best combined ranking among all teams in points scored and points allowed.
Best net points in conference games.
Best net points in all games.
Best net touchdowns in all games.
Coin toss.
1. NA

2. Tie

3. Common opponents...Pit, NYJ, Ind, SD

Pats are 4-1, Ravens are 4-0 with the Chargers still to play. Right now, the Ravens should have it.

Or we could just vote and have a computer decide on who we think the best teams in each conference are and then rank them & put 'em in the playoffs!

Seems logical, right?

"Pats are 4-1, Ravens are 4-0 with the Chargers still to play. Right now, the Ravens should have it.".

That's what I thought, but yesterday one of the networks was showing the Pats having home field throughout if both teams won out. I guess they were mistaken.

Thanks for the info Craig.

IMO:

NE has a cakewalk left- hoping for another Tebow miracle
The Steleers have one tough game at SF
The Ravens are capable of losing to SD or Cinn; both are away games.

I think Baltimore wins the north and Pittsburgh & the devil himself, Big Ben, will go to Denver to take on Tebow and the Jesus & Mary gang.

Good Lord...
