The job of the bcs is to match up the 2 best teams in college football. They have been wrong once.

The thing about the BCS is that it is hell of lot better than what was around before it came into existence.

According to this article, no one knows what formula the computer guys are
using. They made a mistake once before in the computations. This system is wide open for corruption. A few years ago one of the computer guys (Palmer?)
said he could duplicate most of the six individual formula's in the different computer rankings. This BCS was much closer than they let on in the BCS broadcast.

I'm curious how they can even do the ratings before the Army Navy game. Surely the game counts a little to a few teams.

Well thought out article also heard this on the radio this morning. OSU had the #2 slot from every computer but not from humans who vote.

“I don’t know why we vote,” South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier said.

Someone needs to explain to me how Spurrier is wrong about this. In almost all levels of football coaches look at the opponent in their next game they don't have the time to look at other teams. Seriously do you think for one second that Miles or Saban watched one second of any USC (California) game this year?

Does anybody think coaches sleep in their office to catch up on the Notre Dame-Michigan game?

I have said this for a while somebody in congress will hold hearings on this.

It is pretty funny teams like TCU and Boise were left out again, while Virginia Tech is in.

The thing about the BCS is that it is hell of lot better than what was around before it came into existence.Disagree entirely. Once upon a time we had multiple games over a tight two-day window that were almost always good matchups and could have an impact on a national champion.

Nobody can tell me that this year's Sugar and Orange Bowls are must see events. And every BCS year it has been so.

Gimme those old-time bowl tie-ins and unlimited at-large choices over the current scenario any year.

At least in 2 of the 6 computer polls OSU was 3rd. Osu was definitely 3rd in the Wolfe system.

Another reasonable, well thought out article. I miss that paper, used to read it all the time during my 10 years in South Jersey.

Like I said heard it on the radio. Either they were stone cold wrong or this came into play when the comment was made. I just looked it up and saw Sagarin had Alabama second didn't have to go further. First time I ever looked at some of these sites being a novice to college football rankings they are quite impressive.

Computer rankings: The six providers are Anderson & Hester, Richard Billingsley, Colley Matrix, Kenneth Massey, Jeff Sagarin and Peter Wolfe. Each accounts for schedule strength in its formula. The highest and lowest ranking for each team is dropped, and the remaining four are added and divided by 100 (the maximum possible points) to produce a computer rankings percentage.

When CJ mentioned rivals.com I actually went there for the first time people sure do put in a lot of work into it.

It really is amazing that we are one country yet so different in many ways especially sports. Hockey is huge here not so much in the south and the exact opposite goes for NASCAR

The Air Force coach voted OSU 6th. Think that might be because they hired his running backs coach away from him? The whole system stinks. All National Titles will always be mythical, period.

Hey...the OTHER conferences GOT what they deserved....the SEC proposed in 2008 a +1 scenerio so as this EXACT situation wouldn't happen...well guess what...the OTHER conferences turned their respective nose's up TO THAT idea...

You reap WHAT you sow....so wha, wah, wah...too damned bad

Now the votes have been made public, there really is no defense for this wretched system. Things like one guy voting Virginia Tech 12 spots ahead of Clemson. Some other guy had Houston ahead of OSU. It goes on and on...

Using my gorilla math( I dont know the point system for Harris), about 3 or 4 of these anti OSU guys caused them to not get 2nd in the BCS. It really is a crazy system.

It wasn't the conferences, so much as the Bowl System with there clout and political influence. There were several other conference heads in favor +1. I actually believe that most conferences are in favor of a +1.
