Announced this morning, Rep. Barney Frank D-MA will not seek re election in 2012 and will retire. Former Chairman of the House Financial Sevices Committee, the liberal Congressman has been the target of much criticism, with many blaming him, along with his associate Senator Chris Dodd, for much of the financial woes associated with the housing meltdown crisis.

Bag of wind in his retirement announcement. Bag of wind when he served.

That's the 17th D to retire of late. Sign of the times.

16 terms - this is inexcusable.
NO ONE is worthy of serving that long.
This is why our government is thoroughly corrupt.
Term limits are mandatory.

It's going to get worse:
His departure sets the stage for Rep. Maxine Waters of California to take the helm as the most powerful Democrat on the House Financial Services Committee.

Fox cut him short and went to something else. Unsure about the other networks. Rambling on and on for sure. In his brief time on Fox, used the term "very conservative Republicans" several times in taking a few final shots at the GOP. Very good that the nation is finally ridding itself of this baggage. The bad part is that his district is considered safe for the Dims, so that another far leftist may show up in 2013 when the new Congress arrives.

Lets at least hope his replacement is not anti gambling. Whether you liked him or not, he was one of the few openly pro gambler congressmen in the House.

It's going to get worse:
If Waters is indeed the next Chairman then it most surely will. This shrieking Harpy is so far left that she almost makes Barney look like a moderate. However, before that happens the GOP has to lose control of the House, and do not see that happening. Ranking Democrat much better than being the Chairman.

Our government is thoroughly corrupt because we allow it. The voters could have retired him at any time. He served 16 terms because that is what his constituents wanted.

If there was any chance of the GOP losing the house Barney wouldn't be hanging it up just yet.

Remember, this is a state that re-elected a child molester more than once

Not to mention a Senator who left a woman in a car under water and tried to hide it

Finally.....I say good riddance to a major league "SCUMBAG" who served no one but himself and his gangster cronies for far too long....

I wish him nothing else for himself, but only what he helped America to do, which is, leading the way onto the road to our ruination....

John, besides the fact that I'm a big fan of incandescents (I'm too old to want this kind of change!), I'm drinkin' the Kool-Aid that says liberals are looking for change that benefits everybody. Like:

1. This climate change issue. Alternative energy will be good for the world.
2. Healthcare reform. Every American gets access to healthcare besides just in an emergency room. That's a noble cause.
3. Higher tax rates for the rich. Can only help the majority unless that fib called trickle down has any life left.

I won't go on. Don't want anyone to go to bed mad. :p

Oh, and just so I stay on topic, it goes without saying that I love Barney Frank!  Maybe not as much as LottaKash doesn't but a lot.

Anyway, I'll miss Barney. He's instant entertainment if you are a liberal.

No, no, no... the Kool-Aid says that liberals dream up ideas that can be marketed to the weepy, guilt-ridden masses by ignoring the real impact of nefarious government implementation that ends up benefiting only that government/elected officials at the inevitable expense of everybody.

Get it right.

1.Oh, and just so I stay on topic, it goes without saying that I love Barney Frank!  ... He's instant entertainment if you are a liberal.

Well, she would provide "continuity."

House Financial Services Committee hearing, Sept. 10, 2003:

Rep. Barney Frank (D., Mass.): I worry, frankly, that there's a tension here. The more people, in my judgment, exaggerate a threat of safety and soundness, the more people conjure up the possibility of serious financial losses to the Treasury, which I do not see. I think we see entities that are fundamentally sound financially and withstand some of the disaster scenarios. . . .

Rep. Waters: However, I have sat through nearly a dozen hearings where, frankly, we were trying to fix something that wasn't broke. Housing is the economic engine of our economy, and in no community does this engine need to work more than in mine. With last week's hurricane and the drain on the economy from the war in Iraq, we should do no harm to these GSEs. We should be enhancing regulation, not making fundamental change.
Mr. Chairman, we do not have a crisis at Freddie Mac, and in particular at Fannie Mae, under the outstanding leadership of Mr. Frank Raines. Everything in the 1992 act has worked just fine. In fact, the GSEs have exceeded their housing goals. . . .

There is that, it's true.

That's why I believe the healthcare bill will live or die on it's merits. If it was only well-intentioned but ineffective, it will be revised by Congress or repealed. Despite what some may believe, Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid survived because most people believe they are worth the investment.

"Let us not say that we will decide on a political basis at the national level that no State is competent to regulate the practice of medicine in that State if they decide to allow a doctor to prescribe marijuana, because that is what we are talking about."

"Martin Luther King said, and it is sadly still true, that one of the most segregated times in America is the hour of worship."

Frank'N Weiner does have a rather catchy sound to it. Should also be able to find a spot on the show for disgraced Congressman David Wu. Might even be able to get John Edwards to emcee it, or, if very fortunate, Bill Clinton.
