I'm using DRF Picks and they give beyer speed figures for the last 3 outings.

Sometimes I see numbers like... 0-0-59

Or 59-X-X

Can someone tell me what is the difference between a "0" and an "X" in the beyer speed figures? I'm thinking the "X" means the horse just hasn't run enough races to have a figure there. Why would a horse have a "0"? Maybe he didn't finish?

This is a pure guess, but maybe the X means the horse hasn't had 3 races in his life yet?
Maybe 55-X-X means this horse has only one lifetime start?
Many horses receive 0 figs or -0 if the race was slow enough and they were beaten by a big enough margin.

Really bad horses at low circuits can receive 0's for finishing a race.
