Oh wait, they already think they do.CDI earlier said it is dropping its share of the annual contribution to the riders' insurance fund, which amounts to $330,000 for the company's four racetracks. Brackpool said he was "troubled" by CDI dropping the coverage, which The Stronach Group and New York Racing Association continued to support with a new three-year agreement for the guild's "media rights."

"There was no communication (from CDI)," Brackpool said."It was just a decision they came to. I'm troubled by that. This board is committed to doing whatever we have to do to protect jockeys."

What's next, will they hold up dates for Santa Anita because they don't think the concession menus at Gulfstream have enough "healthy options?" They can disagree all they want with CDI's decision, but as none of the four CDI tracks are in California it's really none of the CHRB's business. I'm sure they'd be thrilled to have the NYSRWB or the KHRC try to dictate the contracts and policies of California tracks.

If a "no confidence" vote were to take place concerning the California C.H.R.B. Board members it would pass easy.

We are stuck with political appointees with no clue where facts take a back seat to their own bias from another world.

People who say that nothing's harder to get rid of than a bad penny must never have met Keith Brackpool

Excerpt:

Brackpool, a generous donor to [and/or employer of] a string of powerful politicians including former California Governor Gray Davis, Schwarzenegger Chief of Staff Diana Kennedy and Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, was appointed by Governor Schwarzenegger to the state horse-racing board last September and became chairman in January. The Weekly reports that he also owns several politicians, excuse me, horses.

Brackpool, however, became something of a distraction when it was revealed by the Los Angeles Times that years earlier he admitted in a British court to having dealt in securities without a license and that his expertise before becoming the governor's water consultant was overseeing a food company. His company reports having $145 million in assets, but generated revenue of just $1 million last year. It also is being investigated by shareholders unhappy with recent executive bonuses.

Excerpt:

The company run by Keith Brackpool, 52, of Los Angeles paid Schwarzenegger Chief of Staff Susan Kennedy $120,000 in 2005 as a consultant. She advised the firm, Cadiz Inc., on a project to store water from an underground aquifer in the Mojave Desert for use during droughts in Southern California.

Schwarzenegger, who is now negotiating with lawmakers on a water deal that could fund billions of dollars in new projects, endorsed Cadiz’s proposal earlier this year, though he has not committed to making it part of an agreement to bolster the state’s water supply.

As Schwarzenegger’s highest-ranking aide since 2006, Kennedy approves all appointment recommendations made to the governor for state boards and commissions and is deeply involved with his water policy. In 2006, after her income from Cadiz was disclosed, the governor’s office said she would recuse herself from matters connected to its water project.

I find the remarks from Brackpool to be very funny. Kind of like the pot calling the kettle black.
