How many of those companies that made of the DJIA index are still in there today?

i know that general motors was on it, along with philip morris, polaroid, citibank, were all on it back then and are not today for whatever reason. mutual funds that mirror the dow have to trade in and out of stocks that come or go from that average. i think that one of the drug company's is no longer on it now either. i am just responding under poor memory

Not a lot of time to search, this appears to be good enough: http://www.ask.com/wiki/Historical_components_of_the_Dow_Jones_Industrial_ Average

The mix from June 1, 1959 seems to apply for the historical date of closing above 1,000 for the first time.

I think this CME and or CBOT bought out the NYSE 2008 ?

i didnt find mention, but isnt that a German concern?

The point below about CME gives me further belief that the NYSE etc. is not a USA concern.

"" CME Group bases prices for US gasoline on Brent Crude rather than West Texas Intermediate Crude (a US based ), which many believe is responsible for artificially high gas prices.Neither the US gov., nor the Comodities Futures Trade Commission have jurisdiction to alter this practice, believed to enrich oil and gas companies at consumers' expense.""

They merged with Euronext. See: http://finance.yahoo.com/q/pr?s=NYX+Profile

Nothing there about CME, CBoT or any other entity, Chicago or otherwise.
