I can understand limiting access to the ticket prior to the close of the pools, but keeping others from seeing what you bet and what the return was after the event just makes it look like you've got something to hide.

Why don't you send a PM to TwinSpires JC? He/she is a new member here with one post to their credit in the ADW section.

They pulled the results down, but I can tell you they hit 5/6 on the pick six both days. The gross return was 98 cents on the dollar, and the net was 72 cents.

Some pretty poor bet structuring in my opinion, but all in all they probably did better than most.

I think out of maybe 15 pools they did, only 1 has shown a net profit. I know the "Derek Simon Pools" were especially a bust...and last maybe 2 weeks, 3 weeks top.

I will be throwing (away) $10 at the Aqueduct pick 6 pool for tomorrow. It's a $188k carryover and they plan to throw $25,000 worth of ticket(s) at it...god bless.

I will post their MONSTROUS ticket here for all to see....

This seems like an old fashioned story problem:
$100K to spend
$98K won
Hit 5 of 6 on Friday and Saturday.

My assumptions based on what we know:
I think they had two 5 of 6 tickets on Friday for a total of $2708. They probably used Stacelita and Nahrain in the F&M Turf which was won by Perfect Shirl.

Next I think they singled Goldikova in the Mile on Saturday. Thus having one consolation ticket for 95K.

Since Jude Feld of Twinspires was on the Players Pool team, his workout reports were of great significance. Any horses that he gave a "+" to ran well. I assume the ticket played on Friday was not very expensive, as they could have singled Ladies Classic winner Royal Delta on quite a few smaller priced tickets, as she was the "steam" horse of the weekend.

RR

PS An interesting note: only two horses were alive to 6 of 6 on Saturday, Ruler on Ice and Rattlesnake Bridge for 2.2 million! Those tickets would most likely been made by using the lottery-like "quick pick" key on any SAM machine. So its very possible someone had 5 of 6 on a two dollar punch!

That's simply not true. Please refer to the link on this subject in another thread on PA.

OK, but how about recently? I would think they would advertise HUGE if there had been a huge profit recently...but I haven't seen it. All I know is TS quickly scrapped the Derek Simon pools (unless they're "hidden") because those didn't bring a huge result with his $1,000~ show wagers.

Here's some past history which hasn't been updated recently:

http://www.twinspires.com/content/scorewithsimon

From quick glance, and obviously I could be wrong, I see only 2 of 13 pools have scored a net profit. The Belmont Stakes Day results aren't even updated. Their biggest claim could be the Kentucky Derby carryover where they did have 2 of 10 winning pick 6 tickets.

The Rainbow 6 one on April 23rd is most hilarious.

TS threw $100k into 28 tickets...including one $32k one. And ended up having only 1 winning ticket which paid $3,280 for 10-cents. Nice return! :bang:

Let's talk about the bad luck of the Twin Spires Player Pools, all right? How about this, DYLAN THOMAS!! How about that? It scares them, doesn't it? Well, it should.

That was closing day at Beulah. It was a 25 cent pick 6 with a must give away. I believe the carryover got to 350K and the pool got to a million. I was no longer involved with them by then, but was happy to see all that money pour in!

No I believe it (the one I'm mentioning) was the 10-cent Pick 6 closing day at Gulfstream. April 23rd was their last day and I know there was a sizeable carryover.

yep, again rrpic is right. What if they were one of the only winners that day? everyone would be talking a different tune. I know they hit the superfecta or something at churchill - it was also ky derby day, and they broke even on the day despite the beulah debacle.

Well I'm still talking about the Gulfstream Rainbow 6...never mentioned Beulah which he is talking about. And yeah IF they hit it...but they continue throwing MONSTROUS tickets at carryovers with not so great results.

And, for those who care, here are their tickets for today's Aqueducts $188k carryover. Throwing $25k at it, with largest ticket being a tad under $13k.

Here is their only live ticket after the 4 horse in the 4th leg wins at 30-1. They did a lot of singling of the 8 horse - Sneaky Girl - which in a $10,000 claimer is not the greatest idea of a single.

I can understand limiting access to the ticket prior to the close of the pools, but keeping others from seeing what you bet and what the return was after the event just makes it look like you've got something to hide.

I can understand why they "hide" the tickets to prevent someone from getting "free" selections for the later races while they're still live. Based on the ticket structures, it's pretty easy to figure out how much they like each horse and which horses are "longshot specials", which in turn could be used for pick 3, pick 4 and other tickets.

But I agree, that after the day is over, the pool's tickets and results should be posted for all to see.....

Why continue to mess around with so many tickets? You could have easily added the 11 or other horses if you just keep it simple. The same thing happened in the Breeders Cup with 26 tickets of various sizes the last day. Then you all use horses in one race on one ticket, then use different horses on another.

I don't profess to be a pick six expert, but have hit a few in my time. Getting beat by a horse you don't have or like is one thing, but wasting money on tickets with little or no chance is ridiculous in my book.

Agreed. Especially since they singled the 7-5 ML $10k claimer on every ticket except the "caveman."

I'm glad they hit it. I stopped playing it after I won $40 on a $10 contribution and I received a 1099-G form in the mail from them. It's kind of a pain to have to claim a meager $40 win on your taxes. I don't know why they do it like that.

i got 47.00 for my 10.00 contribution. so about 4.7 to one. so 50.00 contribution should be about 235.00. And at least I only have to stoop for a few losing tickets to show some gambling losses. lol
