ESPN coverage was terrible on the classic. Don't even know where uncle mo was placed. No interviews with any of the other trainers/owners... :bang:

They were running over time. They were holding up the football game.

Ponders the question: Why did Mott ever take Mike Smith off of Drosselmeyer after the Belmont?

It was good, just ditch that quick shot from ground level. This wasn't a steeplechase. Hi Def rocks, horse racing really needs to step it up.

Smith doesn't ride at Gulfstream or in New York for that matter, not in the kind of races he was running in, and losing.

If that was the case we're lucky we even got to see the race. Racing normally plays 2nd fiddle to even beach volleyball anymore.

According to my tv guide via fios, they were supposed to go to football at 1/4 after. They were about 5 min late

Mike Smith was aboard for Drosselmeyer's most significant win before today. When horse and jockey have chemistry, you don't mess with it. Besides, Mott and Winstar can afford to fly Smith in to ride.

You asked why, I told you. The horse laid off after the Belmont and didn't run for awhile. Mike Smith isn't giving up a day of mounts in SoCal to come to Tampa and ride that horse. Once he didn't run well I guess he moved on.

Years ago I wasn't a very big Smith fan, but I take back every bad thing I ever said when he took one of my horses needlessly wide or didn't go to the lead with a horse I thought could shake loose. He's a great rider and seems like a great guy in interviews etc... I was way wrong.

I like that he tied Jerry Bailey, and especially since he did it in the big races, all the original 7.

He's just trying to raise our blood pressure. It didn't work on me this time. I have a ridiculous amount of stress in my life these days. A fun poke doesn't work anymore. ;)

I still don't feel he's the same rider he was in the 90's. He doesn't ride with the fearless determination he did then. I don't think he's much better than the average jockey, and one race shouldn't make a whole lot of difference in his quality. He sustained a serious injury years ago and it still haunts him. He's no Ramon Dominquez by a country mile.

I'm a bit late to the party, but it was just alright to witness Mike on Drosselmeyer, screw Chantal on Game On Dude, during the 28th running of the BCC.
