Got an email from TS today. Now only people who bet more than $25k per year will get "reward" points...not that they provided anything of value.

On February 1, 2012, the Twin Spires Club is going Elite.

TSC Elite is a program designed specifically to give our fans what they value most.

Things you need to know about the TSC Elite program:
To be eligible for the program you must wager at least $25,000 per calendar year
Twin Spires Club members who wagered $25,000 or more in 2011 will automatically become TSC Elite VIP members for 2012
Only TSC Elite VIPs will earn points on wagers
Points will be redeemable for wagering credit and Brisnet.com wagering products
TSC Elite VIPs can also take advantage of great on-track benefits* such as special admission discounts, free programs, preferred parking, discounted food and beverage, and much more
Effective February 1, 2012, each issued point will remain valid for 12 months after issuance.** Points not used within 12 months will automatically expire. When you redeem points, we will automatically redeem the oldest points first

I did not get that email yet. It looks like to me, they are becoming like all big businesses today catering to the fat cats. What get me is that I sent an email to them back in early August asking if the reward points expired and was told "no" with some very slight condition that I don't recall. Whatever it was; it was not a concern. I'm a small player, but it wasn't going to affect me.

Happy to help explain.

1) TwinSpires.com players are going to continue earning points for all online, mobile and live operator wagering as they always have.

2) The Twin Spires Club program, which involves all of CDI's tracks, OTBs and TwinSpires.com, is transforming to the "TSCElite" program. One of the new aspects of the TSCElite program is that points for on-track wagering will only be awarded to a player who has reached VIP status or a player who reaches $25,000 in wagering. Once the player reaches $25,000 in on-track wagering, they will get a point bonus of 100,000 points.

3) The points expiration process will be updated for all TSCElite players. Effective February 1, 2012 each issued point will remain valid for 12 months after issuance. Points not used within 12 months will automatically expire. When you redeem points, we will automatically redeem the oldest points first.

The entire email, including the note about TwinSpries.com players continuing to earn points, is copied below.

Fee free to reply with any questions.

Sometimes I wonder if there aren't folks at CDI whose job it is to sit around trying to think up new ways to deliberately torque people off. Then they do something else to show that yes, yes there are.*

* And I say that as someone who can't remember ever redeeming a single 'reward point' from any credit card or wagering account in my life.

This is all just as exciting as hell, but I wish they would work harder to prevent the site from going down on big days.

Players who wager at a Churchill Downs Incorporated racetrack or OTB will now only be able to earn points when they reach VIP status (by wagering $25,000 or more per calendar year).

Nice going Churchill. Screw the on-track player
