I have just found out that the DRF has stopped selling the form at all off track locations in Vancouver and surrounding area, meaning one has to go to the track in order to get the form.

Is this happening anyplace else in N.A.? Thus is bloody ridiculous for people who have touble getting to the track for various reasons.

Are there any DRF people on this site that might explain this please? :(

It is obvious the distribution costs make selling the form off track in Vancouver non profitable. The DRF is pushing everyone towards the online experience. Even an old timer like me who enjoys the "feel" of newsprint in his hands is getting used to the downloading. I now only buy the newsprint on the weekends and download during the week.

That's interesting, I always assumed a place like the River Rock casino did pretty swift business selling forms. Anytime I was there, a form was pretty much on every table.

Sad to see, but I suppose DRF just isn't interested in selling the print version anymore.

I'm sure they would be interested if it were profitable. Isn't it more fair to say they aren't interested in losing money on that segment of the business?

Yes, it is, I agree.

Why print, transport, and distribute the form, disposing of copies that don't sell, when you can just post it up on a website and have the customer do everything. Your base cost is pretty much the same if you sell 1 copy or 10,000.

Probably just a matter of time until the form is no longer available in the newsprint edition.

or ANY newspaper, or ANY book, for that matter

I don't know about that with books. After you've had the 4th or 5th author do a signing ["To Cholly, thanks for your support. Big Name Author"] on your Kindle it's kind of hard to read the screen.

I don't think the Racing Form determines where it's publication is sold in individual markets. There are individual distributors in each market. In my city, the local race track is the distributor, and I'm guessing this is so in virtually all small markets. Only in large cities would it be distributed by an independent agent.

I immagine casinos like River Rock and United Blvd. may just snd someone to the track and pick up a raft of forms for the day, so may still be in business. It`s the small vendors that are out to lunch unfortunately.

I wouldn`t doubt if the track (H.P.) had something to do with this. The last few trips to the track, I wandered thru the casino there and it was like a morgue.

If you are forced to go to the track to buy a form, maybe more will end up in the casino.

The small vendors/OTBs and DRF can easily get together and arrange a set up where ANY customer walking into an OTB can buy a DRF online form using a computer /printer at the OTB's place for a smaller or standard fee. The OTB can get a cut to cover the printing costs based on # of prints etc..
The technology to sell selective copies of PDFs is always available.. or

OTBs can just print a copy on demand and get some kind of license for photocopying it locally.. So many ways to do it... But DRF folks are not listening.. hahah
