Payoff Oddity in Turf Paradise Stakes, 10/29

Yesterday's 7th and 8th race DD at Turf Paradise paid $30.20 for $2.00.

Unusual, because the STRAIGHT $2.00 win price on the 8th race winner was $47.20, substantially higher than the DD price.

I noticed the anomaly off the will pays, and bet the 8th race winner thinking its price would come down to 8/1 or so in line with the double. Got a nice surprise, and collected at 22/1.

Guess the connections hammered their horse in the DD with the 1/2 winner of the 7th, and never bet it to win.

That's one way to cover your tracks. (Of course, they would have been out of luck if the 1/2 shot hadn't come through in the 7th.)

As you point out, watching the "will pays" can turn up good betting propositions (either in the straight pool or the exotics).

Nice catch, alertness to these things often pays off. However, have pretty much abandoned Turf Paradise. That 20% takeout on wps wagers is outrageous and is just too much to overcome. Still take an occasional look and might play a small flyer at a price, but am passing for serious play.
