Racing Post rating for the winner was 120, and the show horse, described as making a bid and hanging, gets a 128.

What would be the reason for this seemingly big difference in ratings for an inferior(?) performance?

And the top two finishers....26-1 and 100-1? if I read the DFR summary correctly.....does this say the Arc was a rather weak race? Two 3yo fillies at huge prices and horse behind them getting better ratings.....wassup here?

Pretty sure weight is a big factor

Here is DRF explaining the rating

"Racing Post Ratings are, like Timeform, a handicap rating. They are determined by a number of factors, the most important of which are the level of the race, the quality of the field, and the weight carried. While the time of the race is also taken into account, that element is used only as a general guide to the quality of a race. Keep in mind that the Racing Post Rating is not a speed figure, it is a handicap rating. The rating is intended to represent the weight a horse would be required to carry in a handicap. For example, in races restricted to horses of the same age and sex, a horse with a Racing Post Rating of 120 would, in a handicap, carry three pounds more than a horse rated 117. In open races, sex and weight-for-age allowances are factored in. Thus, in a handicap, if a horse carrying 120 pounds defeats a horse carrying 128 by a length, the horse carrying 128 will generally receive a Racing Post Rating six or seven pounds higher than the horse who carried 120."

Tom, you are reading it wrong. The winner was given a 128 "Timeform" rating...pretty sure that should be Racing Post, DRF is about 4 years behind getting that updated. The other two don't list a rating. The 120, 120, 128 is the actual weight carried for the first three finishers.

The hard ground had everything to do with the winner. Most of the trainers said their horses would not run well over the course that day. Most of the horses like soft or yielding courses. The Arc's winning trainer said his horse would love the ground...Hope this helps..
