Low class move by Harbaugh, IMO...and an even worse explanation in his press conference after the game.

No matter how "emotional" you claim to be, you are still expected to offer a gracious handshake after the game...especially in a high-profile game such as this.

disappointing end to a hard fought game.

are the Niners for real or will Smith revert back to his normal self? Been a fan for 35+ years and I honestly cannot get my hopes up - I remember years like 1979 too clearly I guess.

Go Niners!

I think what harbaugh did was fine. I think Schwartz game off looking like a sore losing baby!

They are both pro's, a respectful handshake at the end of the game is required IMO.

Still, what a great game.

The hard handshake was ok.
The hard smack in the kidneys was not.

I'm a Smith fan and even though his play was inconsistent the past few years, the 49ers were a dysfunctional team with poor coaching, bad chemistry, and no balance. Harbaugh was just what they needed and now Smith will finally fulfill his potential. I've been betting them all year. I have free NFL picks on my website.

I have a bit of insider information on this one. It was not the handshake or the back slap, but rather after DS said something to JH about overdoing things, Harbaugh issued a profane 2 word comment to Schwartz as he (JH) was running past which is why there was a delay of a few seconds in DS catching up to him (JH). That remark is what tipped over the apple cart.

That makes sense and if it's true Schwartz is a jerk. Couple of things here, during the game after Harbaugh mistakenly threw a flag down to argue a call (which was going to be reviewed anyway because it was a td), Schwartz reportedly said "learn the fffing rules Harbaugh", and these two worked together years ago, so there may be some animosity. As for Harbaugh celebrating, it was a big win against a team that had won 9 straight games and Schwartz celebrates wildly after his team wins. I thought Schwartz came across as a whining baby.

I'm siding with the Lion coach here. Harbaugh might have been "fired up" right after the win as he said later on in explaining his over-exuberance. But learning to win with class is something I admire in a person.

Nothing to admire about Harbaugh in this incident.

Harbaugh has a pretty good track record of being a big baby with handshakes and with some of his actions during games. A few that come to mind are when Jimmy Clausen put his hand out to shake Harbaughs after ND beat Stanford and Harbaugh just ignored him and walked away and also when Cal upset Stanford in 2009 and he did a little slap on Tedfords hand after the game. Even before the hard handshake and slap on the back to the Lions coach you could see Harbaugh yelling and screaming right in front of Schwartz before the handshake. If this was reversed I'm sure Harbaugh would have wanted to throw a punch like he supposedly did to Jim Kelly after Kelly bashed him on TV one year. The guy is clearly a good coach but a good coach with no class imo.
