BAT returns on Saturday in the first race at Belmont. It's a NW2 ALW race. UptowncharlyBrown and Tapizar return in the same race. Not a bad way to start off the card.

At least one of the three will surely scratch.

I'm surprised this thread didn't generate a little more interest. In the typical year, I think BAT would have been 2YO of the year and considered a very good prospect for the Derby. I've been looking forward to his return almost as much the second coming of Uncle Mo.

I'm very leery of his chances. I get that he's a likely winner, but Dutrow isn't great in these situations, and from a betting perspective, he figures to be a massive underlay.

Like you, however, I am looking forward to his return, and this race in general.

.. he's just better than tapizar and uptowncharliy brown. even at his 2nd best, he is just better than those horses. Tapizar is probably the most overrated horse I have seen all year and uptown just isn't fast enough for these.

he would have to really fall off the map to lose this race IMHO

Agree. I wouldn't touch him with a 10 foot pole at the likely price (I'll just watch the race). I liked him last year and played him in the Juvenile. So from a sporting perspective I'm hoping he picks up where he left off.

I'll be rooting for Chuckie...a lot of problems fell into his lap last year and he was damned near finished by his injury...not to mention the fiasco in the Belmont...he looks and acts like a million so I'm hoping he just makes a good showing of himself...it's kind of tough coming off a 16 month lay off but I was high on him from day one and maybe with his new handlers and a top jock he can start to make amends. Go Charly!

Pretty sharp comeback for tapizar

Chucky looked great coming off the bench...Tapizar ran great but had no pressure on him...time looked to be quite fast...I'm happy:jump:

Boys at Toscanova looked like he wanted to go to sleep in the Paddock yesterday prior to the race...I forgot the reason why they stopped on him early in the year but I thought it was because he seemed disinterested which went perfectly well with his appearance. As for Tapizar...very fast time and may have had things his own way but having another horse out there that can run 1:21 and change (35 and 1/5 for the last 3F) is a good thing in my book.

When I got a chance to see BAT, he looked kind of small to me like he hadn't developed much from 2. It wasn't so bad that he lost because that was a pretty tough spot and the winner ran really well (with the help of a slow pace), but it was a disappointing effort.

Yes, but you never look at them anyway, right?

No I don't...I was actually interested in the DRF speed rating but I know this is a Beyers forum so thought I'd ask about that..:p

That can easily be figured out if you are really interested. The Beyer was 95.

I often wonder where people get such idiotic ideas.

So to break a 100 he would have had to run 7f in 1:20 and change? Does that sound right?

Yes, that is right.

You realize that bottom claimers ran the 3rd race at 6f in the following:

22.65, 45.20, 1:09.61

The Tapizar race, at 7f, had these fractions through 6f:

23.20, 45.92, 1:09.02

The track was clearly very fast, no?

It's really kind of hard to tell because I don't keep records of such things, but off hand, it's a toss up as to which word I've seen more of here, Pace or Beyer..
