Spencer rode him really hard to win his last race.

Super Saturday has been the kiss of death.

They certainly got a lot out of him. He made 1.8 million dollars this season and won three grade 1 races. He would have struggled to win even one group 1 race in Europe. I'm sure others will try to follow his example in the coming seasons - not as easy as it looks, though.

Sort of unfair to count Life at Ten, since she should have been retired a year ago and showed little interest in racing since.

You didn't have to be Nostradamus to see this one coming after a hard drive for nearly a half mile on a bog.

I posted in Casino's selecion thread yesterday about his courage and how he was under a drive for a long time...seemingly out of gas for the last 3/16 at least, but held on.
Tough race

I've been trying to figure out why they kept running her after her 2nd start. I could see giving her a chance, but after awhile it became obvious she was done.

Yea, that was a tough race. I had him marked down as a potential "bet against" if he went to the BC unless he was working really well.

I'm not one of the "retire the horse after one decent effort at age 3" types, but if there was ever an example of the opposite, a horse that should have been retired right after she went bad, she was it. She just didn't have anything left.

Not to be corny, but may she live a long and healthy next 20 years.

In this case, it definitely was. She was done.

When you own the horse, you might see things differently.

Maybe they were trying different things with her to get her back in the game. Maybe she was perfectly sound, physically, and they were working on her mental game, giving her every chance in the world.

Why is that such a crime?

I was so close to cashing a huge ticket on Dean's Kitten... Nice career.

If she was 100% sound, there is nothing wrong with trying her for a couple of races.

After a certain point though, it starts feeling like you are pushing a formerly good athlete to do something it no longer can and wants to do. It feels demeaning and diminishing. They should have at least looked for a race where she had a shot.

Sorry to hear about Cape Blanco's injury and retirement. I was looking forward to seeing this turf star in the BC like everyone else.

2nd that ........ it was a fun race to watch...a great one to go out on. Very exciting from our seats near the finish line. I thought I was going to make some money on that one..........
