Thought this might be interesting for us dog lovers. There is a new book out called "Retrieved", the story of about 100 rescue dogs who helped their handlers search the WTC site for weeks after 9-11.

Of the 100 or so dogs, only 12 remain, and the book is a portrait of those hero dogs.

Here's another. Its the incredible story of Roselle and her owner, David Hingson, who is blind. Roselle lives with David and his family in New Jersey. She is David's guide dog; she goes everywhere he goes including to work in Manhattan each day.

Early on the morning of 9-11 when the first plane hit the north Tower, Roselle was quietly lying by David's desk in his office on the 78th floor. They had no idea what had happened, David just knew there had been an explosion of some kind on a floor above them. He and Roselle, and one other coworker (the others not in the offices yet) felt the building shift. David moved around his office trying to secure their computers. As the noise outside in the hallways grew, he stopped. He spoke, instantly, Roselle stood, he took hold of her harness. It was time for Roselle to go to work. They proceeded towards the stairwell.

(Roselle is nicknamed, "Thunder Dog" because she is horrified of storms. To this amazingly trained companion dog, though, a storm is nothing compared to a terrorists attack, as you will learn.)
