Maybe you know the answer to this, Chick. How tough is it to plop an SD card slot in for expandable memory? As dopey as the Nook is, they at least offer that.

As an Amazon premium member I can't see myself in many situations watching a film via WiFi, but who knows.

I can load up an average length film using 700-800Meg. Those might be nice come beach time or to distract some squirt in the backseat.

BatLife shouldn't be a problem. Nice color. Magazines will be nice.

All in all, & for the PRICE!, I have a genuine case of mild anticipation.

If you really need a lot of memory, or storage, it has a standard USB port and you can use a USB thumb drive as a second storage area or use a terabyte external hard drive and swap movies in and out 10 at a time.

Look at today's offerings in tablets like the Commodore 64 & Atari 800, the tablet wars are just starting so save your bucks for just a bit more.

And by the way, I was a proud owner of an Atari 800XL, and it kicked the C64's ass in my opinion.

I also had a TI 99/4A, remember that one? My dad even bought a Timex Sinclair at one point, but returned it a short time later.

My first x86-based machine was a Tandy...I believe it ran at a clock speed of 8mhz....lol...and I believe it housed my first ever "hard drive" which held a WHOPPING 20mb...

Wow you and I were almost the same. It came with 16k (I said K!!!) and you had to buy 32K additional memory to be up to snuff. The modem was suction cup type and you need a RS-232 interface to get that to work.

Believe it or not I bought my Atari at Macy's didn't want to spend the two grand my lovely wife insisted. Still have the computer desk I bought back then it was solid wood shipped from Oregon.

Tandy if I recall right was called trash 80 way back then.

I remember buying a 1 GB HD at a computer show for $400 and thought I stole it. Back then you had to wait up to an hour just to get in those type of shows.

I really believe ther turning point in computers is when the 486 DX2 started dropping in price pretty fast. The chip by itself cost way over $600 when introduced.

Ok now to talk some smack. I believe the Compuserve and Genie kicked Prodigy's ass in my opinion.

You would have really been impressed by my program that had numbers race across the screen and calculated payouts. The Computer Science teacher was not so happy with the crowds it would draw to the lab.

...oh, and I almost forgot, Larry Collmus would call the races!

Of course brings back memories of green screen and amber monitors.

Ad from Compute Issue 1 1980

Here's some more memories you will have to remember this for sure. One person at a time was huge in its day.

At the store yesterday peeped out the 7" tablets....I change my mind, that's too small. I already have a phone.

Oh yeah, Oregon trail for the win, speaking of grammar school puters.

That's great........

I remember buying those magazines at Radio Shack every month. You know, the ones that came with pages of code you could manually type in to come up with dos style screens that resembled snow scenes and such.......or was I the only sucker?

Another thread jacked by none other than the proprietor of this joint & one of the mod's. An outrage if I ever saw one.

Keep in mind there is no clock on my business. You can run...

I pre-ordered it. I'm a little hesitant because of the custom ui and/or the locked down android but I am sure it'll be rooted at some point. I'm also not a big fan of the proxied web browser but it looks like both opera and dolphin are available in the amazon app store. I guess I have about a month to talk myself in or out of cancelling it.

I'll probably just get it and use it.. then if I like it I'll give it to my wife and order the 10" one they're going to release early next year.

Editorializing on the merits of the product and/or thread obfuscates the hijacking.
