Ray, you just helped me out with your roi stats. I liked O'Rourke Three in the 3rd at Yonkers and I had bet him to win and I boxed the 1-5 exacta. When I saw that your ROI was so much higher on the tri I bet a key 5 over 1,6 (my top 3) and the 5-6-1 tri paid $280.

I assume that your stats for trifectas are cold, or if it shows 1/2-3 do you mean a 1 with 2/3 key tri? I played a key.

With my regular picks here I usually call Key boxing A with BC in the Exacta (sometimes 3 box) but for this test-run I'll stick with the part wheel A/BC in both the Exacta and Trifecta. Exacta AB and AC and Trifecta ABC and ACB.

I've examined a lot of different ways to play the exactas and tris... AB, AB/ABC, box 2 box 3 and nothing ever beats the straight wager. The part wheel A/BC comes in 2nd, better than Boxing AB so I'll use that wager here.

That Trifecta ROI is inflated with 3 nice hits, one paying over a thousand. Hope to get lucky and bag another one like that.


Looking at tonights races so far ...maybe I should change my mind. The key Ex has hit in

Exactly my experience.

I wonder if you have noticed a drop in exacta payouts. The last 5 months at Yonkers have been poor for me- win rate is the same but the average exacta win has really dropped. I haven't had one pay over $50 since April. A substantial increase in the $10 and under area.

Seems that way but it's hard to track. The lows are lower but a few bombs get sprinkled in so the average stays pretty flat at $66 for all races this year.

Average on the races bet does seem down. too many sharks 'n whales?

Ray I'm am old "stick in the mud" pen and pencil "middle half" capper. A great deal of sucess with that. But I also believe that over the years with your many winning selections you have proven the validity of computer generated selections. Also who can forget the GREAT performance by "Chatsworth" in the Tioga contest. I also agree with you that it is getting much harder to win if your just a win player. Still a "can-do" but much harder. IMO the pic3's pic4's at Monticello and Yonkers are loaded with overlaid prices. You have to be willing to "look dumb" and hit some pic3's that pay very low but when the MOTO horse does not win your in very good betting shape. Even more so if the first leg is not a strong fav.

i suspect that you might be asking the robot to much to pick the second horse. maybe the reason for that is when it helps to pick your winners, the most likely horse to run behind it often is compromised by the actual winner therefore making the robots picks less likely due to different pace expectancies

That's true enough, but here's a graph of this years performance showing $2 balance vs bet number. ($2 win and $1 Ex/Tri wheels) This is the set of races I noted for ROIs at the start of this thread.

As you can see the exotics are very dependent on 2 or 3 big hits which have yet to occur on this run.

Not knowing if it's just random deviation or "Somethings's changed" is the frustrating part. :confused:

Ray--You mentioned "twin tri" and it brought back memories of a popular bet in the "old days" here in Eastern Pa. At Liberty Bell and Brandywine. Called "The Big E". You would bet the exacta on lets say R6 if you hit you got NO money. You did get the right to an exchange ticket on the second half of the BigE. The second half would be on R9 so you had time to make the exchange. There were some very nice payoffs on that bet. Used to be big money guys walking around the betting areas after the first half of the BigE asking "are ya live"?? If so they would offer you cash for your ticket. Less than full value if the first half was chalky, much more than value if the first half was longshots. One of my first big hits was on the BigE. Still remember the names of the exacta horses. J D Midnight and S D Matty. S D was driven by Olin Davis who was not very good and had the 8 hole. So I knew it would have to pay good if it hit. It did. :lol:

It was my good fortune to sit in Rooney's box at the "Bell" several times back in the 70-80's. The woman I was living with in Pgh had been best High School Friends with the girl John? Rooney married and we would drive to Philly on special occasions to visit and usually ended up at the track. Rooney loved to tell the story about a bettor who hit the Big E and collapsed with a heart attack as the horses crossed the wire. When the medics came and put him on the stretcher, he wouldn't let them leave until the Payoffs came up. :D

Lotta---Had pretty good sucess with the Big E bet. Maybe because I always put some crazy longshot in for 2nd on the tickets. Like Olin Davis outta the 8 hole. :) Those were also the highlight days of the "10%ers". Plenty of them were around also. Those same BigE buyers were also at the $100 window. The old days of cardboard tickets and $100 min bet window. :)

Side note Lotta--The two biggest winners I ever knew or saw NEVER looked at pp's or numbers of ANY kind. To them it was all in how the horse looked and acted both in the pre warm up and the race warm up. One of these two was a lady who had a HUGE following over at Keystone. When she bet at the $100 window the tellers would start betting the same number. :) Last I knew of her she had retired and moved to her estate in Hawaii. From what I saw of her betting ability she could have paid cash for the land.

There are several good reasons to stop this trial.
1. I've reached the 500 race mark, absolute minimum for win betting analysis.
2. December's here and wintertime racing is too fickle.
3. Would need a monster Exacta (+$300) to break even on exotics.
4. Robot is in the shop for a tune up. (NewBot can process 100,000+ races per day)
5. Pena returns tomorrow.
6. This Forum is going through one of those lulls. :sleeping:

Ray--THANK YOU for your interesting and useful Yonkers workout. I followed it everyday and it helped very much in leading to two pic4 scores. My check is in the mail. :) I believe your correct address is Old Gezzer, Big Cash Way, Western Penna. :lol: If you can Ray while doing your update on the new Robot can you ask the old Robot to do a search?? Here are the parameters, when a "Best Bet" is located in a pic4 group use that horse as a single in the pic4 with 3 others in all legs. Example one BB in the pic group would call for a pic ticket of 3by3by1by3. Or if two BB in the group 3by1by1by3. On a $2 basis the first example ticket would cost $54. The second $18. I know of one that hit for a very nice score. On the "9 hole" front at Dover two tough beats at big odds this week so far. One was saved with an exacta hit. Also one that went below my 4-1 min when a big late rush of money lowered the odds. If interested Ray I guess you could tinker with the same idea on pic3 plays at both YR and MR. Dover's pic4 has been sweet also. They put in a $10,0000 guar pic4 pool every Wed. Paid great yesterday. Thanks again Mr Ray.

Anyway, I just wanted to let you know that I enjoyed the heck out of your little adventure @YR....I tuned in everyday that you posted the goods....It was the first thing that I looked at each start @PA....

Lotsa work, for sure.....Did the Robot ever get any sleep ? Or you, for that matter ?... :jump: ....Still, in the end, your ROI on BB's was alright, and with a rebate it was money to be sure....Tweak the F out of that machine....Intruct his butt to figure out the X's a little better....With a photo or two going the right way next outing, you will see better $$$....I just know it....

Keep on Ray....Can't wait to see what is next on tap from the Machine and the Brain (you)....:jump:
