Oh, do I relish what is happening these days to the Red Sox.

To watch Adrian Gonzalez simply start walking to the bench even before the ump called that final strike was priceless.

There's no way these guys make the playoffs...they're doomed...they are a crushed and beaten team at this point. You can see it everywhere in that dugout.

And the pièce de résistance is the fact that they lost big today to a man who has never beaten them before...AJ Burnett...

Oh happy day! :jump:

All Red Sox fans should be rejoicing that I started this thread today. It virtually guaranteed that win tonight, even though it took 14 innings...

If you guys make the playoffs, it's ME you'll have to thank...you realize that, don't you?

Their my team win or lose to the bitter end. One thing I'm not is a bandwagon jumper.

I remember this guy I knew was a big 49er's fan always wearing their gear. When they went in the tank he magically became a Cowboy fan I wanted to throw up.

One thing I really respect about a person in sports is if they stay with their team though thick and thin.

So go Sox!!!

While I'm not the biggest baseball fan. Red Sox fans got on my nerves at Saratoga, especially the ones who refer to the team as "We."

"We, got alot of injuries this year."

"We, need to get better starting pitching."

Oh, really? Which position do you play?

I'm enjoying this.

I watched the entire game last night. The Sox look like a beaten team. They just have this look in their eyes. It's hard to explain but it's there.

Bases loaded top of the eighth, 1 out. In the past vs. the O's, the Sox clear the bases and go on to win. Last night vs. a minor league call up, it's KO and routine ground ball to short.

A good match up tonight; Leister vs. Britton.

To quote Colin Cowherd, complete dumpster fire. Huge games tonight. Love it. Just when all the broadcasters called the season uninteresting, it became really interesting. May or may not be the most popular anymore, but for my money baseball is still the best game going.

I agree Al. ESPN is supposed to offer live coverage of the 4 games tonight that still figure in the race for the wild card spots. Coverage begins at 7 EST.

I'm going to the game for the first time in a few years.

Best thing about it is you can never call off the dogs, no matter the score or relative records of the teams. Because of the individual nature of the game, every guy out there is still going to be trying to get the hit or get an out and there is no running out a clock. And since there is no clock, no game is ever over until 27 men go down. By the looks on the faces of the Red Sox players, they appear to wish otherwise....

Part that is a real killer is that Tampa is "only" 15-10 this month while making up all that ground, so they are only playing very well, not out of their mind. That's what puts this collapse in perspective. The Red Sox have been historically bad this month and while injuries do contribute, they still should be good enough to win more than that.

cj's dad

As of 9/4 the Sox had a 9 game lead for a playoff spot. Last night they officially "blew" the biggest lead in baseball history. The previous (in September) being 7 1/2 games.

This is said for every team not just the Sox.

Do you also object that some players are called by their first names and others by their last. How many people called Manny by his last name? How many people call Ortiz or Youkilis by their first name?

Is Derek Jeter known as Derek or Jeter?

Is it Cam or Newton?

Actually I like when people talk about their teams like that. It shows a sincere passion for the sport.

Yes and as I said they were playing very well. .600 baseball for an entire season gets you in the playoffs more often than not. .600 baseball in the last month when you are 9 1/2 games back 4 days into that month usually will not get the job done. Usually you are going to need something like 20-5, or at least .800, to even have a chance to make up that ground but the top team playing just .500 will still hold you at bay. That is what makes this an epic collapse. Tampa is just playing very well, not great. Boston is in the death spiral about 100 ft off the ground.

Were I the Skankees, I would be going all out to eliminate Tampa Bay. The Red Sox are clearly the albatross here and the Rays with their pitching, would be much superior in the Playoffs. I know they don't play them immediately, but why chance it ?

Course that assumes that if the Skanks did put the pedal down, that the Red Sox could actually win ONE!

I was not ashamed to admit it. There are rare instances where one has to make exceptions.

I tip my hat to Tampa Bay they never gave up even being seven runs down. One of the majority owners grew up in Canarsie so even though they knocked my Sox out I have to root for them. Problem is they can't hit very well its going to be rough sledding.

Very entertaining night last night, was happy to see Tampa squeak into the play-offs although i was hoping St.Louis would lose (cant stand La Russa). My Jays finished the season at .500, hopefully they can get some talent in the bullpen for next year. On that note i am picking the Yankees and the Phillies in the World Series, with my man Halladay winning his first championship.

I couldn't be happier as an O's fan short of them actually being good again.

I was at the game last night. The wife has become quite the Rays fan over the last few seasons. We had purchased tickets for last Saturday night a while back primarily for the Miranda Lambert concert after the game. She decided then to get tickets for last night just in case.

You're dead on about people leaving after the 7th. We were about 20 rows up on the first base side toward the outfield. I was thankful the "stork" on my left exited so I get a better view. And the folks in front so I could cross my leg on the seat back. And the general thinning of the herd made the area seem more comfortable just having "basebally" people. Around the stadium it seemed about 20% to 30% had headed out.

There was a piece of the scoreboard in left field dedicated to the O's-Sox game. It showed the score, inning, team that was up, and the number of outs. It faced the Rays dugout. When the giant "R" went up in the 7th (I think) for the rain delay in Baltimore, I think it helped the Rays. They had no reason to watch the scoreboard any longer and concentrate on their own game.

Bottom of the 9th, two outs, and Dan Johnson is your pinch hitter? Confirms my belief that Madden is a warlock.

Not sure how if it was covered on TV, but you may have noticed when Upton was up in the bottom of the 12th, he stepped back from the plate for no apparent reason for about 15 seconds. This was when Baltimore tied their game. A small section of people at the top of the lower section behind home plate were going nuts. We all knew it must be a reaction to the O's game, but had no idea what. Everyone, including Upton I believe, was looking at the scoreboard in left to see the score change. It didn't right away and BJ climbed back in the box.

Then when that little section exploded with Longo up, you knew the O's had pulled out the win. The score went up, the whole stadium went nuts, Longo hits the game winner, and the place goes nuts again. "You had to be there" I'm sure doesn't apply. It had to be equally amazing to watch on TV.

Sucks for Carl Crawford. How many home games will it take next year for the booing to stop?
