The party of No at work once again. They refuse to pull funding from their sacred cow green energy boodoggles in order to pay for disaster aid to hurricane victims.

The Senate on Friday rejected the GOP (http://www.latimes.com/topic/politics/parties-movements/republican-party-ORGOV0000004.topic)-led House's bill to avert a government shutdown, intensifying a partisan standoff that many in Congress hoped to avoid. The vote was 59-36.

Democrats (http://www.latimes.com/topic/politics/parties-movements/democratic-party-ORGOV0000005.topic) in the Senate, who are in the majority, oppose Republican efforts to roll back "green" energy programs to pay for aid for victims of Hurricane Irene (http://www.latimes.com/topic/disasters-accidents/meteorological-disasters/hurricane-irene-%282011%29-EVWAN00009.topic) and other disasters. They say disaster aid, usually a bipartisan issue, should not require cuts elsewhere -- especially to programs creating green jobs -- as the GOP majority in the House now demands.

Every "green" initiative has been a total embarrassment to the Dems and they lose credibility every time another ill-planned non-plan predictably fails. To be able to cut their losses but be able to face their green base and blame it on the opposition is an absolute gift. Maybe they just want to make it look like they put up a fight first before they concede. Probably a good idea...

I agree, I can't believe they want to go to the mat on this one.
Are they going to tell seniors that their SS checks are not guaranteed next month because we must maintain our investments in companies like Solyndra?

What would happen if they did shut down government for a few weeks?
Might be a good idea!!!!!!!!! ;)

Maybe we should outsource our government to India.

oN THE upside, if it is shut down that means no money for BO and michell to fly around the world and that also means they will not be able to do any more damage.

shutter down!

As usual you have things exactly backwards. The problem is not Democrats refusing to pull funding from green energy. The problem is Republicans once again trying to hold a worthwhile cause-in this case disaster aid-hostage to their war on the middle class and poor agenda.

This is not a case where you can complain that lazy people are taking advantage of the overburdened rich. This is a case where hardworking people are the victims of a natural disaster which was no fault of theirs. Yet the Republicans refuse to help them. Nothing so far has so clearly demonstrated the cruelty and ideological fanaticism of the Tea party Republicans as this latest obstruction.

No, this is a case of the repubs doing the responsible thing and freeing up money to keep the government running. The irresponsible ones are the party of NO, the dems, who insist on running up the debt for our grandchildren to carry. We have already wasted enough money on fraudulent green jobs, as we saw Friday where all of Obama's boys pled the 5th in court. Tick Tock.

I can't remember the last time Republicans as a group did the responsible thing.

The problem is ............disaster aid-hostage

No such thing, imo, BOTH the dems and repubs are guilty of the same thing, only they just alternate by using the same old worn out theme...."hostage"

The Gangsters are doing what gangsters do best, BOTH SIDES.....

It is called "EXTORTION"....and they use it to get both their ways...
and much more frequently than ever, at that..

That would be the dems. The repubs passed a bill to fund FMEA, which, btw, now suddenly has discovered that they are NOT short of funding after all.

Not only did the repubs allocate money to FMEA, they did id by cutting wasteful spending in our, foolhardy programs.

You need to get out more, Sweet N Low.

Obama and the Dems in general seem to be "Math challenged". They need to check the batteries in Tim Geithner's calculator.

So now they have reached a compromise. Wow. Whodda thunk it?

So, once again, it is the DEMS who run around crying wolf for no reason, and it is the DEMS who are the ones who had the opportunity to shut it don, in spite of them trying to blame the repubs.

All this could have been averted a long time ago, had the dems, then in control of both houses, done their jobs and pased a budget. But, as we all know, it was DINGY HARRY who refuse to allow this because he did not wnat the dems to be responsible - he wanted the repubs to have to sharae the blame for a budget.

Hey Sugar Foot, you call that leadership?

Sweet.

Obama just got done today rehashing his obstructionist conservatives forcing his illegal pen dystopian sitcom routine.

From Breitbart, I mean...

WASHINGTON (AP) — A fear of voting has gripped Democratic leaders in the Senate, slowing the chamber's modest productivity this election season to a near halt.

With control of the Senate at risk in November, leaders are going to remarkable lengths to protect endangered Democrats from casting tough votes and to deny Republicans legislative victories in the midst of the campaign. The phobia means even bipartisan legislation to boost energy efficiency, manufacturing, sportsmen's rights and more could be scuttled.

The Senate's masters of process are finding a variety of ways to shut down debate.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., now is requiring an elusive 60-vote supermajority to deal with amendments to spending bills, instead of the usual simple majority, a step that makes it much more difficult to put politically sensitive matters into contention. This was a flip from his approach to Obama administration nominees, when he decided most could be moved ahead with a straight majority instead of the 60 votes needed before.

I know that there is better place in another thread, but one has to credit those who are the true worst American ever.

"The repeal of Glass Steagall was the final straw that broke the back of the world economy. That was the single worst act that could have ever been done and we are now paying the price in spades."

That distinction belongs to the man who signed it into law, President Clinton.
