Banned injured himself pulling up after an easy half mile work today. He fractured both sesamoids in his right ankle. Trying to save him.

We will know more tomorrow, he seems to be a relatively good patient. Fingers crossed, but vets say 20% chance he makes it.

Hope things turn out better than expected. This is the hardest part of loving this sport.

depends on the type and severity of the fracture.
With the modern medical technology, more things can be done to save the life of the animal and perhaps return to normal life.
Let's hope the injury is not severe.
Have a look at a horse's lower leg anatomy. Very interesting...

Sadly, if they manage to stabilize him somehow (keep himself from hurting himself further) founder always lurks.

For such an amazing animal, the Thoroughbred has a couple of serious design flaws. Damn laminitis.

RIP Banned.

Multiple graded stakes winner Banned was euthanized on Saturday, about one week after he underwent surgery to repair fractured sesamoids in his right front ankle during a workout on the Santa Anita Park turf course.

Glen Hill Farm President Craig Bernick posted the news on his personal Twitter account. Throughout the ordeal, Bernick has kept fans abreast of Banned’s condition through the social networking website.

“Heavy hearted to report that Banned didn’t make it,” Bernick wrote. “He ended up foundering in his good foot this morning, and we did what’s right for him.”:( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :(

I really hope we can find a cure for acute laminits we have lost so many good ones this way.

A complete mechanical overhaul/redesign is required to fix this maladay. Sadly, most go this way when laid up with catastrophic mobility issues.
