What you guys are hearing is not incredible vocal range. I'm sorry, its not. What you're hearing is a move to his falsetto voice. His head voice--away from his chest voice. Frankie Vallee of the Four Seasons had the same ability. As have others.

The most chart topping, and well known falsetto was one--who has sold a gazillion records, writing and singing for decades with his brothers, and created an entire era in popular music. One of the most memorable, still today. He was Barry Gibb. He wrote the soundtrack for this little flick some might remember.

Her cd is in the player right now, its not the one on, but its in the player. Still, this doesn't speak well, not at all, that one artist can dominate the charts with little competition. I like her voice, but it'll take far more than her or any one artist to save the music industry--and if you break it down--pop v. country? Pop tanked a long time ago. And country has its own problems, in that its moving too far away from its roots.

When I see some of the garbage that's on Letterman late at night, these so called "bands", jumping in place like they have springs on their shoes? They can neither play music or sing music. Its tragic. And I don't purchase it.

I do like the doo wop sounds of one former member of Jay And The Americans though....His name is Kenny Vance. His group is Kenny Vance and the Planatones. I thought they did a great job of their song "Looking For An Echo".

The mention of Little Anthony and the Imperials brought back these memories:

Every year at my boy's only Catholic hiigh school, the alumni association funded a "spring concert" by a performer as voted by the previous years junior class.

The concert was held in the schools quite large gymnasium and every girl in the area wanted to be asked to go.

The line-up:

Freshman year - Joan Baez - I didn't go as I was too shy to ask a girl out - only 15 - and I didn't like Joan Baez anyway

Soph.- Otis Redding - I went

Junior - Dionne Warwick & Little Anthony - I don't remember why there were 2 concerts that year - too long ago - I went to both

Senior - Smokey Robinson and The Miracles - Went

Speaking of voices, (we know the production) that of Grizabella, Betty Buckley, will always give me chills. So fragile, so aged, and wistful, then she rises from the floor of the stage--the power in her voice comes forth effortlessly. (This is as I saw her perform it in New York a couple of decades ago.) It was incredible. I prefer it above the UK's Elaine Page.

This is a very long web site just use the find feature in your browser and type Jay, Mystic, Dion, Holiday Revue, and so on you will see all the great shows at the Brooklyn Fox and some other venues. One of those listed was my first concert (show back then) was probably around 12 so lets say 1964.

We used to get up real early and take the train there the lines were long and it was during Christmas break. Forgot what they charged to get in but they even gave you an album with your paid admission.
