Del Mar will close the doors on it's 2011 and in doing so highlight the 2YO males in thehttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Del_Mar_Futurity . Notable horses that have used this race for the Triple Crown trail include Lookin at Lucky, Silver Charm, and Gato Del Sol and the venerable Best Pal.
This years version pits the undefeated Hollywood Juv Chal winner Majestic City vs undefeated Best Pal winner Creative Cause with a cast of 3 others who have not been headed at the wire and someone goes home with a loss.
:8: Creative Cause rated beautiful in the Best Pal and moved easily into position to run down leaders and looked to finish with something left. Sports a 6 fur bullet to show hes ready. His sire is laden with stamina, dam was the winner of the Apple Blossom. He showed tractability in the BP as Bejarano barely moved his hands to position him. The Futurity has been elusive to Harrington as he seeks his first win.
:4: Majestic City showed heart in the HOL Chal as he looked beaten at the 1/8th pole only to dig in and outgame two dueling rivals. He was all out to win that day but has been freshened as he looks to have been tabbed for this one. His pedigree is very precocious and speed is his main threat. Will need to show he can stretch out. Blew out a 5 fiur bullet showing he is sharp and sound. Peter Miller has never won this event.
Bob Baffert who has won this race a record nine times sends out maiden winners :2: Gun Boat and :6: Drill.
:2: Gun Boat showed he belongs in this race after dueling the entire 6 furlongs and hanging on by nose in his first out and galloped out strongly after the race. Gets 30 days and blew out 5 fur. Any improvement from last makes him an early threat.
:6: Drill runs for connections that have won this race twice most recently with Lookin at Lucky. Drill ran exceptionally well, for a first timer on the rail, in his last and showed tractability while being put into some tough spots. Bejarano opts for Creative Cause as Martin Garcia pilots. Pedigree shows promise for extra distance but needs to catch a flyer to keep from getting hung up outside.
:3: Sheer Talent may not have the figs to be here but his win was better than it looked as he broke sharp and put himself in the pocket and rated nicely for return jock Espinoza. He went through the turn on his own power and Victor only went to the whip twice. Look for improvement as he was a little green down the lane.
Doug o' Neill must have liked what he saw from the maiden race in which his charge :5: Basamati ran a game second to Gun Boat and 3rd place Norms Passion come back to win his next out. Shapes as key race. Should get better trip and gets Gomez as Espinoza opts for Sheer Talent. Gets a better post for this start and looks to stalk. Distance is a question as he has struggled get past 5 1/2. O'Neill and Gomez teamed to win this race with eventual 2yo Champion Stevie Wonderboy.
Outsiders in the Futurity include :7: Mighty Monsoon who shows an affinity to come from off the pace and close late. Looks overmatched and form is going the wrong way.Bonde takes a shot to pick up some show money.
:1: Corsa Di Cavall gets thrown to the sharks after winning for tag. His win was aided greatly by a riderless horse that hampered several others and was lucky to hold on. Quininonez takes the irons as Rosario does not ride the race.

The Futurity will go as the 8th race on card that includes 2 other stakes races. We will go on to the bullring next. Good Cappin
Thanks for reading.
