2011 Race Meet at Zia Park!!

Hi People:

Zia Park opens up this Saturday for their 6th season of racing. We will be racing every Saturday, Sunday, Monday and Tuesday with a 12.15pm post, MST.

11/12 races per day with a 5-10% purse increase over last year! Early races on the card wll be QH races and latter races will be TB races. We hope to have 1400 horses on the property for the start of the meet!

I will be doing handicapping between races and you are welcome to send your picks and any questions or comments about our racing program that I will read on the air between races! We will also be running various competitions that you can take part in. Emal addy is: ziaparkfans@gmail.com

We will also be on TVG on weekdays!

And if any of you want to visit the track drop me an email and you can com and watch a race from the booth.

Zia is less speed friendly than most dirt tracks, even at distances shorter than 6f.

The threads purpose is to generate some interest in the races at the track I am currently working at. And the 40-60 hits I get on the site each time picks are posted suggest there is some interest and it is a worthwhile endeavor.

I do not get paid to do it, nor do I do it for any other kind of reward.

Similarly answering emails during our broadcasts is something I choose to do. It is nice to know people in the USA are watching us as well as people in the UK, France and Australia are taking the time to get in touch and share their thoughts.

Any idea what is with the plethora of hand timed races at Zia? It is a new track, surely the timer can't be a problem already.

An aside, for those making figures, I usually break out the hand timed races. Others do not, but I find the reported "hand times" to be inaccurate on many occasions.

Craig, if I can digress a bit, on your off time how do you find Hobbs? Working in some rather out of the way places seems to be part of the career of being a race caller. It has been some years since I was in Hobbs, and then only briefly to eat and gas up, and I was not impressed. Seemed drab with not much to do. After working in Prescott a town in the Llano Estacado might seem to be a bit dull.

Craigyou got me interested in ZIA PARK these days. after giving the whole race card my full consideration today i could only come up with the 6th race. this race only has 2 horses with any experience so if one of the first time starters beats my pick, that's the way life goes. my dart is going to go on the #2 STORMY PAL. the horse comes out of a better race than the other horse that has run already, they did not put the blinkers on the horse so to me it looks like he just needed an easier spot which he found today.
