High CPU units?

Norton reports that a program I am running is using high CPU . Can this cause computer problem or my computer to crash? ( New Hp computer with Windows 7 and 8gb memory)

I am not the sharpest knife in the drawer but I think you should figure out which program(s) is/are running for starters.

Yes, I already knew that. I got an answer that this was normal from the program's seller. Referred me to a link on Norton's website with information about it.

What I could not understand is the exact same identical program on my older computer (Windows XP) with less memory only showed 50% CPU usage when this was running. My newer computer with Windows 7 showed 99% CPU usage running the identical program. I thought possibly it was a problem with Windows 7.

I see that from time to time also. If you don't recognize the program that is using up the CPU cycles it could be something that shouldn't be there.
Sometimes it's just my browser trying to load a really busy web page like one with some videos on it.
