And they've cancelled today's (Monday's) card due to the weather, which is not surprising. I thought they'd cancel even if the sky was blue and the sun was shining and the wind was just a cool breeze ... oh, wait, that's *exactly* what the weather is today.

It's possible that they've sustained some damage that makes running a card difficult, but it seems more likely that they were looking for a reason to call it off.

Delaware's track super was replaced a number of yrs ago. There have been no major issues since his departure.

Pretty bad when the last week of the summer and you can't fill a card.
Anyone in the game listening????

yepper...gees Evangeline went from "10.1" in the gate last year and id guess they are about 9 to the gate this year, that's a big drop.
Their late scr, must be a record high, i was thinking they have some sort of illness...dont know for sure.

Also, they just stopped running on Wed, so they have a four day week.

Glad to hear there is intelligent life in this game.

Last week of summer is when it is hardest to fill a card. Far more tracks running in August than in February.

i could be 100% wrong about this, but i don't think the delaware backstretch is open year round (?) and if so, this hurts delaware racing since other regional tracks like prx, pen, and ct offer this benefit. if laurel would have closed maybe they could have picked up some kind of abbreviated winter racing schedule?

Running four days a week, Delaware's field sizes have been better than past years---things were really bad a few years ago but there has been an influx of new barns and some improvement in that area. Delaware has been able to fill nine thoroughbred races a day when a few years ago seven races was sometimes a challenge.

In this case the issue was the hurricane. It was rapidly approaching when they were taking entries for Tuesday, and trainers weren't sure they'd be able to get to the track, if it would be open when they did, if they could get horses not stabled at the track transported to the track over flooded roads, etc. So, they erred on the side of caution/logic and didn't bother entering Tuesday.

Jebus, that makes a lot of sense. Doesn't really help the arguments of what I've come to call the "strict contractionists."
