I bet a horse to show at Presque Isle. Query why I am betting to show and playing Presque Isle...

In any event, the order of finish is:

2
5
2b
4

It only paid to show for the 2 and 5 and not the 4. The 2 paid more to show than place.

Maybe because I don't bet to place or show a lot, I'm confused. I always thought for payoffs, you ignored the second part of the entry if it finished behind the winner.

It doesn't go to 4th for show betting, the pool is split between the entry and other horse and that is how it is paid out.

If the order of finish was:

2
5
4
2b

then you would have got paid for show on 4.

Is this is a recent (recent being up to 10-12 years ago) change though? I'm kind of with menifee here, I thought they used to always pay three spots in the show, and two in the place. Am I "misremembering" the way things once were?

I have been betting horse since the 60s and they have always paid only 2 spots when both parts of entry run in the money. Which bring up the question, Has anybody seen a 3 horse entry run 1-2-3?

I don't recall seeing that.

I did see more-or-less the opposite, a 5 horse field with 3 horses coupled in which none of the entry horses had a shot at beating either of the other two. I bet the exacta straight, 3-2, and won.

When I was the racing secretary at Manor Downs, Cash Asmussen trained the three horse entry that finished 1-2-3 in a stakes race on 4/26/2009

2X - Man Chester Man $4.20 $4.40 $4.80
2 - Valid Heart $4.20 $4.40 $4.80
2B - Majestic Vintage $4.20 $4.40 $4.80

I believe the entry actually gets two thirds of the net pool, and the other horse gets one third.

thats correct. thats why you see a generous show price (unless there's a minus pool) when both halves hit the board.
