When this started the troops should have gone in and blown bin Laden's Al Qaida training center to smithereens and got out.
No. The Powers that be insisted on regime change and nation building.

Now today's headlines are saying:
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/asia/afghanistan/8712701/US-troops-may-stay-in-Afghanistan-until-2024.html
US troops may stay in Afghanistan until 2024

America and Afghanistan are close to signing a strategic pact which would allow thousands of United States troops to remain in the country until at least 2024, The Daily Telegraph can disclose.

They are fighting over a shit hole and should get out.

Does anyone seriously see any path out of this country in the next 20 years? I don't care who is president or which party is in control. I just can't see it.

The US will never admit defeat and will just keep taking these losses to save face. And for what? A $25 million bounty on Mullah Omar? Is that idiot really as big a threat as bin Laden? The bounty was the same.
