from May 1947 Hoof Beats and "The Coast Takes Over", by Jim Crossett:

The spectators' quarters at the Inglewood track are divided into three sections: the grandstand, the Turf Club (private) and the club house. Total capacity is well over 10,000. For those who like to get close to the scene and hug the rail the management offers the use of more than two thousand adjustable seats, in tiers three deep.

You can purchase everything from a two-dollar ticket to the best Scotch in the stands. For those fortunate enough to be permitted entrance to the Turf Club, the management even keeps a supply of ties on hand for the commoners who forget same. It is a mandate that habitants of the exclusive section wear ties while in attendance.

For the convenience of the drivers, trainers, grooms, owners and what have you in the stable area a self service cafeteria, a post office and a barber shop are located right in their home bailiwick. If you want a shoe shine all you have to do is patronize the stable boot black who is always present.
