There was a tie when the welfare of the community, the common good and commonwealth was republican concerns. Those days of yesteryear are long gone.

Superman was a hero of the people, now you guys have put a cape on Ayn Rand and cheer as she cuts off food stamps to children and smashes unemployment benefits "for the evils they REALLY are." Coddling the poor is the new super villain

Between mostie and hcap, a whole lot of points are getting missed here.
People who genuinely need help are always our concern. We strive to deny the anchors who are stealing that help from them.

But you already knew that.

And don't forget what Superman and Obama have in common - they are both cartoons.

And as we have poinred out many times anchors are not poor hungry children, seniors who have paid all theier lives into SS, or most on welfare who actually are the truly needy.

You guys are still driving around with "welfare queens" of your brains while the richest-(according to MITTSY R-"persons")- like Exxon Mobile and GE pay little or nothing and are the true anchors that are sucking government funds.

Us guys have repeatedly called for tax law reform.
YOU guys failed to act on this while you had both houses and still refuse to do anything. Raising the rates in a flawed system will not accomplish anything. Fix the system, then we can talk about rates.
Funny, one of the biggest offenders here is GE, a huge Obama supporter and donator. Yes, we need to fix this stuff. So stop the class warfare and get to work on the real stuff, not the BS we saw debated recently.

hcap, Repubs do blve in helping people. We just don't blve in all the govt prgms that provide minimal help and are breaking the country.
We blve the private sector is more efficient in helping people. The best way to help people is to provide jobs. Yet more and more regul;ations and constant talk of tax increases does nothing to encourage any business to do any hiring.
The govt is supposed to protect us from enemies not be a public teat.

What was the state of seniors elderly and many sick and destitute before Social Security.?

There were company stores employing child labor 18 hours a day in mines and sweatshops. The meat packing giants before social reforms instituted by TR routinely packed pieces of line workers in meats not wanting to shut down the "line". Horrendous accidents rarely slowed down production. Before the rise of unions spectacularly unsafe working conditions gave workers very little choice. Either work in fear and danger or go hungry. The Triangle Waist Factory was one incident that turned things around after men of conscience realized the awful working conditions.

If it weren't for those men of conscience and compassion of both parties stepping in and regulating big business, and establishing safety net programs modern day America would be more like 1910.

Oh I forgot, that appears to be your goal

What will be their state when we no longer can provide SS because of rampant spending on b.s programs?
SS is a flawed system and is nothing more than a Ponzi Scheme.
If it is not partly privatized as GW wanted to do it will go down in flames.
Yet the idiot Harry Reid and other dims say SS is ok.
Then they changed their tune and said if we didn't raise the debt ceiling SS prob wouldn't be paid. These guys are such liars they change their tune to fit the circumstance. But I digress...

Actually the worldwide economic pain was mostly brought on by banks and financial institutions exploding the world economy by transforming capitol markets into manipulated casino games.

SS was very fixable before the recession, and is still fixable by raising revenues and small cutbacks. I have no dispute with holding a modest line on spending, but strangling those who can least afford it while multi-nationals in the guise of "persons" destroy jobs here while hunting for Mexican or other labor costing .10 cents on the dollar overseas drives us to the bottom. The combination of bankers playing games and structural changes to the US manufacturing sector are the culprits

In his State of the Union address, President Obama called for even more spending on forms of energy that benefit GE (http://www.openmarket.org/2011/01/26/obamas-state-of-the-union-a-blueprint-for-crony-capitalism-and-costly-educational-failures/). Government energy spending and tax credits disproportionately benefit GE (http://washingtonexaminer.com/blogs/beltway-confidential/2011/01/ges-subsidy-suckling-and-regulatory-robbery), which recently spent $65.7 million on lobbying (http://washingtonexaminer.com/politics/2011/01/immelt-daley-and-obamas-antipathy-free-markets) to get government subsidies.
Not so ordinary - they gots the Present-dent on their team!
