8-3-11 Delaware Park Races 1,2,3,8,9

Here are a few races I like at Delaware today. Going to play $20 WP on the top horse and $5 Exacta boxes with the top 3.


Race -1 The :1: looks like a standout in here unless one of the 1sters run huge. Dutrow 34% as the beaten fav. last out and 35% on the drop to MSW. :1: :5: :4:

Race -2 The :2: at 6-1 is my pick here. O for 9 maiden runs his best races going long and stretches back out today. :2: :4: :5:

Race -3 I like the :4: in here at 10-1 on the ML. Off the bench for 21% layoff trainer and 21% when dropping 2 classes. :4: :5: :6:

Race -8 My figures point to the :1: for Juan Carlos as the pick in here at 4-1. 2nd time off the shelf and has speed. :1: :2: :5:

Race -9 Going home with the :6: at 8-1 on the line. Turf to dirt for 25% trainer move. Should sit a good trip on the outside. :6: :4: :2:

Good handicapping and smart to play a track where you can pick winners rather than go after the really tough races at Saratoga and Del Mar where most of the players money goes but where it's much harder to pick winners.

Every year I hear so many players complaining about losing their shirts at Saratoga and I wonder why they don't look for better races to handicap at other tracks.

About 10 years ago at Saratoga I had an epiphany. I bet a horse that was 3-1 in an NW3 where all of the horses had many wins in claimers or had raced in tough allowance fields. Halfway through the race as the field was bunched up I realized what a stupid bet it was and how there are actually very few good bets in races like that because all of the horses have a chance to win. After that I started looking for races at several other tracks that I feel I have an edge, like maiden races and certain types of claiming races that I like, races where I could eliminate horses, and my win percentage and ROI improved dramatically.
