What did you want? There was no pace pressure in the race and then they let him run slow on the lead. He ran no faster than he needed to.

This was another of "those" races we've discussed. The pace was ridiculously slow, but he came home very fast. IMO it's close to impossible to know how well he ran today because you can't know how he would have run if pressured or forced to go fast early. He may have kept running, won anyway, and recorded a faster final time or he may have quit. There are horses that would do either off that trip and sometimes you don't know what you are dealing with.

In this case, IMHO, you have to operate on the assumption that he's still at least as good as he used to be because there's no reason to think otherwise. He a very good turf miler, but not elite (at least yet),

Yep and had her today without even thinking twice about it. Just the contest thing I was doing though so I did only bet a pittance but it was something. Probably should have went after it but didn't.

i guess what i wanted was when he was asked to run he had more separation from the field. i thought he was in deep water hitting the turn

They all came out of the same gate at the same time.
SC took advantage.

Any better horses were welcome to do what he did.

I was so wanting someone to take the lead and challenge.

I swear, I thought I was watching a race in slow motion.

But, I am no expert...like I always say because I don't wanna get a bashing.

what gets me is listening to jeff siegel on HRTV minutes after the race talking about how he "didn't have to run" and how he should cool out in 5 minutes or so. that horse was life and death in the stretch, i don't want to hear otherwise.i don't care what the clock says.

the good news is, i am pretty confident that they will run him on dirt, most likely the woodward as it's only a mile and an 8th next, and he will get bet in the ground and run up the track

even funnier watching the replay is durkin trying to reassure the audience at just how easy sidney's candy is doing it. in less than 20 seconds he mentions "in hand", "just a few nudges" and "a hand ride" (i counted 14 whips by JV in the stretch)

visually he looked all out but sometimes when you overly slowdown a race you just have a hard time turning up the accelerator ....hard not to want to bet against him but i can see him cutting a faster clip and performing better...

They decided early on that 2nd money was what they were running for.

This colt is a free runner, and today they slowed him up and kept everyone in the race. I feel if they had just let him roll a 47 half all the other closers would have gassed out trying to keep up. JVel did what any other jockey would have done in the same situation, not knocking him..

this is a very good point

the best race of his career and the one everyone keeps waiting on him to repeat is the race at del mar on turf. actually his BC mile was not bad at all he only got beat by goldy, gio ponti and the other really good euro, he held his own.

but in that race he literally, ran the baffert horse into the ground.

i had the same issues with quality road too. he was a free runner that in the biggest of races, was not allowed to run free.
