Goodwood's Sussex Stakes is running on Wednesday at 10:10am ET
Live on HRTV, I believe, and it should be quite a race, even though there are only four runners.

Enjoy!

Very dissapointed that there was only 4 running. Was going to play big against Frankel, but there's not enough here. Making a small exacta wager with Canford Cliffs over the French horse, but kinda doubt it will happen

Visibly impressive race where they cantered out of the gate and sprinted home. Given the short field and pace scenario Frankel had everything in his favor but going longer who knows.

I don't think it was an overly slow pace, after the first furlong or so, they appeared to be going a decent gallop

Quote from Simon Bray on TVG according to trusted sources, "Frankel ran his last 4 furlongs in 11.16, 10.13, 11.46 then geared down to 12 flat.

I didn't hear this as I wasn't able to watch early this morning, but if its correct, I sure hope he can go longer. He's amazing to watch. Hope he rolls on to every win, every career height he can attain--enjoy watching him, love his name, and the guy he was named after.

If that is true, the first half mile was run in a frigid 52 and change. Not sure I believe either

The good news is that Frankel's connections are quite strong on keeping him in training next season (source : the Racing Post ).

I believe the first half of the race is uphill and the second half is downhill...may explain the times.

Why would the fractions mean anything,2 races back he went fast early, and tired late, today the rider decided slow early, fast late.Either way hes going to beat you.
Fractions mean very little to a horse like Frankel, until he stretches out.Too much is made of fractions in this type of race.JMO.

Came home in about 22 seconds for the final 2F. That's ultra-fast, regardless of early pace (also taking the downhill finish into account).

I still think given the downhill run, the early part of the race (downhill starts after the first 2f and only the 2nd furlong appears on the maps to be uphill) was still glacial in speed which allowed this sort of sprint to occur. Look at the final time of the 7f class 2 race that went last on the card. It translates to a similar time. He idled free on the lead and then took off late, running down hill. I don't find it so mindblowing and given the times stated above it was almost 23.5 in the final 2f. The 22 supposedly came on the 5th and 6th furlong coming down the hill when the whole group was still running together, so they all ran those fractions.

Didn't we hear that about Uncle Mo at Gulfstream too?

Looked like they crawled early and flew late. Absolutely perfect trip for Frankel.

His Guineas win was ultra slick on the clock , a time only achievable by going even fractions , so you're right , this fellow is going handle anything thrown at him.

Not my fault that they can't measure sectional times properly.

Are you saying there was a timer malfunction in the Timely Writer? GP has had timing issue with their grass races but I haven't seen a problem with their dirt. Visually, it looked like the field was crawling early in the Timely Writer. Can't say I was overly surprised to see the fractions that were posted.

I think they were a bit wrong, yes. The last fraction seemed a bit too fast, especially for the other horses in that race.

What was wrong with the times?
