View Full Version : Horseman and Insider Trading
Is there any way possible to find out which trainers and and jockey agents have cashed big IRS tickets on their horses? I'd be a lot more confident that horseracing was honest if players could have access to trainers and immediate families members IRS hits.
I doubt the horseman would ever allow it to be illegal for them to bet due to insider knowledge but why can't we have something similar to the stock market where inside transactions have to be reported? The track already has the information they need for IRS tickets.
Maybe then we can see if the "super trainers" or some of the more astute betting trainers are cleaning up.

Interesting idea, but then they would probably just 10% them. :D

If you don't think insiders are scoring big........you are wrong. The people I know, a few low level trainers and some owners, tell me it happens every day.

I wil contest any trainer anywhere in the U.S. as to long tern roi. Since California allows trainers to bet same race competitors' horses to place and show, I am not worried that pools are unbalanced due to trainers cashing too big of hits. If you want you can look at some individual horse's PP roi's and very few wil break even on flat bets. / Having said that, trainers of Harris Farms bred horses probably laugh all the way to the payoof window! I would love to be the trainer/ bettor of all Cee's Tizzy offspring! / Following trainer stats may show better profits on certain data.

I belive the stock market insider trading can cause many more ripples and overall movement than horseracing, and the outcome of inside trading is more predictable. / I am sure some connections make some big scores from inside info, but to balance it i suppose most connection are much too busy to do in depth handicapping. Some smart connections probably even kknow how to spread false info around the backside!!

I am one who bets all Cees Tizzy's offspring and I do make money but don't keep a record of ROI on them. Trainers are known not to be good handicappers. Big time scores are made by big time trainers who also have big time clients.
Some of the books out there say the majority of trainers are bad bettors but I've got to believe there are situations such as drop downs, recent claims and horses returning from injuries or sickness where a smart trainer could make a lot of money. I remember reading an article in Meadows Monthly on Nick Canani and what an astute bettor he was. He said the 2 biggest areas where inside infomation can help are drop downs (the trainer knows a horse is going bad but drops it down before the horse is totally bad, which good trainers do, and is able to cash a bet or they tap the horse and get one or two more good races) and first time starters or first time starters in the U.S.
I would think claims by "Super Trainers" would be the next area they could make money. But maybe the trainers don't know exactaly, when, where and how a horse will react to "medications" either.

There is a very specific angle I am aware of, which I personally used in South American tracks (insiders knowledge); Therefore, they must be going on in North America especially in cheaper tracks.
When a horse is leading and just stops entering the stretch, doesn't always means he was used, or just tired.
Horse's lungs, and respiratory system are very fragile; And, with the right Vet, and treatment they get cure for the following race date, a few people (insiders) know about it, and will cash a ticket at a huge price. This doesn't mean a "first time lasix user", this is a very light treatment, although a few years backs people with this knowledge were making a killing until the tracks and info services started to let the public know about it.
