Last week I spent a couple of nights at Mountaineer. I was holding by own with the horses, but I became tired and bored, so I thought I would try the slots. Thank God I rarely play the slots. The Mountaineer slots are dead. I dropped about a hundred dollars in the dollar machines. They don't even tease. They just take money. I quit and watched others play. There was nothing, I saw no one win anything. The slot machine area was crowded, but no winners, nothing close either. Horse racing looks pretty good.

They are set up for the house , by the house , of the house, never play them anywhere and expect to win.

80 percent of the revenue in Las Vegas, comes from slots.

I always laugh when people say slots offer a better deal than racing. They are mind numbing and they will take all your money in the end unless you run as soon as you get up, if you are lucky enough to have that happen. I've only played them a few times and never had this happen.

The slots at these Racinos are horrific scams. If you enjoy playing slots, go to the Taj Mahal in AC or the Palms in Vegas. They'll still get you in the long run but atleast you atleast get some play out of your money and occaisionally hit something nice.

Slots are a sure loser. Even if someone hits a good payoff, the concept is to keep the person playing. Eventually, the casino gets their money.
When I go to a casino, my plan is always if I make a good profit, I bury it. I continue with my original bankroll. Once that runs out, I am done. I keep the profit and I leave. They are not getting it back.

And I'm sure the machine was tagged for service right after that....
You know where the term "Got Screwed... Getting Screwed" came from.... the old Slot Machine. Seems they would place a screw in the Jack Pot payout slot on the mechanism you could get close but never win the it. But the suckers would feed it till the sun climbed over the horizon. Cause they almost hit the big one several times. Now they do it with code and don't even have to leave the control room. I go to the Racinos go for the Buffet and Ponies. ;)

They don't call them "one armed bandits" for nothing.

After SPA races i'll go over to Saratoga Gaming & Harness.i'll Play some Mountaineer & have a few cold ones...but they close stupid early.(NO Los Al)
Eventually i go downstairs,& there is one Small bar with Two TV's & about
Eight Video Poker Machines embedded in a corner of casino, floor under racebook. Video Games are run by State Lottery,so Payback is determined via ONE COMPUTER, not individual machines having individual payouts like a traditional Casino. (i.e., no machine is ever DUE). Also, there is no 'skill' on the poker machines. if you screw up and throw away a winning hand, another winning hand will come after you discard. Payback is 90%, & i've always been +/- $150 playing DoubleDouble Bonus Poker at $.25/max.credits for +2hrs.

The entire stay at the Grand Hotel at Mountaineer has really gone down hill.

My group used to look forward to our annual fall trek to the "Mountain" where we would spend a week at @$100 a night, play the ponies in the hotel sportsbook, frequent the casino, and dine in the hotel dining rooms.

About two/three years ago new management came in and customer service went right out the front door. The Coffee Shop does not open until 11am, eliminating the possibility of having breakfast there.

The Deli adjacent to the sportsbook does not open until 5pm, eliminating the possibility of grabbing a quick sandwich or slice of pizza for lunch.

I've written several letters and raised holy hell with every suit I ran into while there and never had my letters answered, and were always told by the suits to fill out an opinion card, which they must use to wipe their asses with.

Since then we no longer go to the "Mountain" but take our money to Louisville and stay at the Horsehoe Casino and comute to Churchill Downs.

Tragic!!!! Mountaineer Park USED TO BE a great getaway.

It amazes me how Casino players cry when the slot machines break their piggy banks. My answer to them for the last two decades has been, "how do you think they keep the lights on, pay employees and comp their guests?". People have to be complete idiots to play the Casino's principal money maker.

Play poker or the horses. At least you are playing against other people and not the "HOUSE" with a built in advantage.

Assuming you play textbook fundamentals you can really knock the edge down close to zero with single deck, hence the shoes with multiple decks.....

Has anybody ever been in or watched a slot tournament put on by a casino? I used to watch my grandparents and my mom play in these tourneys and the lights on top of the slot machines would be going off all the time for minor or major jackpots hit. I would ask how this happens during these tourneys but you don't see this all that often otherwise. My grandpa tells me that they of course loosen the machines up greatly for these tourneys so that people hit the jackpots more often. This doesn't cost the casino anything obviously. So, then why would people play slots when they know that they are controlled by the casino within gaming regualtions? It is beyond me. Scratch off lottery tickets are of the same category to me also. Here in Illinois there was a newly appointed head of the Illinois lottery who PROMISED to increase profits. Well how is that going to happen?

well my wife hit for 5grand and 2900 @ the rivers. she also hit for 1900 and 2200 at the meadows. i hit there for 2100 also. my wife will not "playout" the winnings. if she drops a 20 into a machine, and hits for 120.00 she will stop at 60 or so and walk away to another machine.
speaking of MNR.... we don't go down there any more cause the rivers is 5 mins away and the meadows is 25, MNR is about 40 mins.
plus we get perks on free slot play(wife had 1000 at the meadows) meals....ate for 4.95 plus tip at the rivers yesterday.
