“The Gabrielle Giffords,” a maiden race for 2-year-old New York-bred fillies is scheduled to go to post at approximately 4:21 p.m. and has drawn a field of 11. After the race, Giffords’ husband Captain (USN) Mark Kelly will make a presentation to the winning connections.

No disrespect to Giffords, but I think that there are plenty of NY women that could be honored at a NY track.

Her chief of staff is a Saratoga native. This is the connection, not a real deep one, but still--the connection.
