Before my guys tee off, I just want to say my hopes would have been riding on Charl Schwartzel at 40-1 and Steve Stricker at 35-1 if I lived in Nevada or the UK.
Not being able to bet on this legally in most of the USA is pretty sad.

I love The Open, 30mins 'til it's on TV. I've got to root for my local boy, Watney.

Tom Watson jars it from the tee on day 2, sixth hole.
Tom and Gary Player are two golfers I would very much like to meet some day.

Wow! and DJ duplicates the effort on the 16th from 167 yards.

Wide, wide open. Eight shots from top to bottom, that gap could get wiped out before they make the next turn if the weather gets wild.

That was from Thursday, unless he got another one today.

I find links golf to be the most entertaining golf on TV. The surreal landscape is mind bending.
I get four TV channels to cruise around in for the British Open on my Direct TV feed. Good stuff.

1) Mickelson is charging
2) Did i just see a nuclear power plant/reactor in the distant background of hole #7?

What are odds that Clarke will choke? He's on 11th hole. I say Even at least.

I'm pulling for Clarke.
He lost his wife to breast cancer a few years back and really hasn't played well until now.
Not a big golf fan...just a sentimental pick.

I "luved" it.
This is the first major in a long time when there were so many names near the top of the leaderboard that I could be happy if they won.
Mickelson, Johnson, Clarke, Fowler, Bjorn, and even Davis Love, would have been worthy had they won. In the end though, I was thrilled for Darren Clarke and this had to be a popular victory on both sides of the pond.
Well done DC!!:jump:
(Yes. That was a nuclear power plant in the distance, but it was Phil and Dustin whose scores exploded.)
Clarke was excellent all week, in full control of his game. A very popular victory not only with the fans but also with his fellow competitors. Congratulations to him.

Easy to say now I know, but I would never have predicted a choke from a guy that stared down and beat Tiger Woods in his prime in the World Match Play final.

Yeah, had I known then what I know now I never would have made such a prediction. How foolish of me. :) His prior play in major championships must have derailed me.

Lots of players of his skill, or better, have never won major championships. He has never been known as a choker though. When he gets the lead, he generally plays well in the final round.

At one point in hir career, Tom Watson had a rep as a chocker.

Good link DJofSD, thank you.
Here is a coincidence to ponder:
"Chubby" Chandler is the Business Manager/Agent for
1. Charles Schwartzel - 2011 Masters Champion
2. Rory McIlroy -2011 U.S. Open Champion
3. Darrin Clarke - 2011 British Open Champion
What are the odds of that?
He also has Ernie Els, and Lee Westwood in his stable.

Where's Padraig? He needs to get busy and quit thinking about his swing.
