Yeah, I know I wasn't going to start this for another week, but the itch has become unbearable. The wife just came back from business there and has come bearing tales of a very good Cuban sandwich being served at Jacob and Anthony's. I don't generally like mustard or pickles, but a good Cuban sandwich is a thing of wonder. This will be checked out very quickly.

"Bought" my train tickets the other day. I say "bought" as I didn't have to pay a dime for them. 5 round trips for nothing. Amtrak kept trying to to get me to apply for their credit card. They offered some obscene amount of points if I got it, so I did. I still have enough points left for part of next year and saved over $500 on the tickets for this year. Feeling like a winner already.

Some changes to look forward to. UK Racing will now be at The Post, the bar area that is by the paddock and Shake Shack. That should be fine as long as it isn't rainy. Probably will be able to find me often there early in the mornings. Plenty of new concessions this year as well. The old UK Racing tent will not be there this year and instead the area will be for concessions.

Maybe it's because I haven't had any time off yet this summer, but I am looking forward to getting up there this year more than ever...if you couldn't tell :)

spoke to a cousin who lives in saratoga today. the town and track are ready. the stripped awnings are up and the flower boxes are in bloom. he says the oklahoma track has a full card of workouts each morning and open house is a week from sunday.

been rainy and cool up there, but supposed to turn hot and muggy next week.

the downtown is very busy and the stable people are making their presence felt. the "grand old lady" looks as good as ever and the town residents are eager for another banner season.

Hey, I can't wait to write it. Probably placed my last bets til the meet starts and proud to say Belmont did me well this year. Made two withdrawals from my account and still have a nice little roll to start the meet with. No huge scores, just nice consistent hits. Feel really good about my play going in, though as we all know, Saratoga can break your soul just as quick.

Want to take my camera and do a few more visuals this year. Got to find the right sized USB cable. I swear I won't post a picture of "Vinnie" if we see him again. I really want to see him again :)

Got a few early plans. Will be up for Open House Sunday (we're leaving a week from today) and going to go to a Museum event that night. Also planning to go to the HoF lunch. Got an invite to the Museum ball as well, but that one is way too rich for me. The black suit went to the cleaners today to get the Belmont paddock dirt off of it, so going to be ready to roll in style.

Six days and a wake up. We are all short!

Got to make it through 2 more days then on the way up for Open House weekend. The last 15 min of the work day are going to last forever today, so that almost seems an eternity at the moment. The heat finally broke a bit down here in the city, so I'm expecting near perfect summer weather.

Hey Rookies. It was good meeting you last year too. And you brought that darn tasty Canadian brew! I am going to be up there the weekend before the PA shindig as well, so let me know where you'll be and when and I'll stop by and say hello.

I'm tempted to dive into today's Ray Paulick poop-storm. Think I'll wait and see how that plays out and spend my last few minutes here. Sadly, those in California only have Delmar to look forward to.... :(

Honestly though, I'd love to visit there some day, but I think I'll wait til they start running on a real track again. Like Saratoga (that damn commercial is stuck in my brain...It's post time aaaaand party time! Saratogaaaaaaaaaaaahhhh)

Al, just because the two major racing networks are based in California does not make Ca. racing the best. Saratoga is still the Premier track in the summer.

Al, just because the two major racing networks are based in California does not make Ca. racing the best. Saratoga is still the Premier track in the summer.

Never implied that it was. Frankly I think the Delmar cards during the week are pretty poor and the weekends aren't a lot better. This was an East Coast-West Coast jibe. See, we get Saratoga to look forward to and they have Delmar. No contest in my book. But it is a beautiful looking place that I would like to see someday. When they have a dirt track.

I just realized I spelled Del Mar incorrectly as Delmar. The latter happens to be the name of my local pizzaria, which, as coincidences go, we ordered from last night. Pepperoni, mushroom and olive, my personal favorite. The wife said she wanted a good NY pizza before heading north. Honestly, while Delmar's is a pretty good pizza joint, I like the pizzas I've had around Saratoga a little better. Less greasy I think and tastes very fresh.

We, as mentioned before, are heading up Saturday and that night's plans are set. Going to go to the racino for dinner and to catch the stakes races at Colonial. The Virginia Derby is a personal favorite and the card looks good. I wish we had better turf runners in the US as I like those races much better than the ones on dirt. I got kind of locked in on the 5f turf sprint around Preakness weekend, but since most of my play is at NY tracks, haven't had one to bet on for a while as they didn't run any that short at Belmont that I saw, 6f and 7f being much more prevalent there (and nowhere else but Woodbine...size thing....).

The 5f and 5 1/2f races are real specialist things and a horse good at 5 may not be the one you want at 5 1/2 and vice versa. Don't know any other distances where the half furlong makes such a big difference. So those of you complaining about too many turf sprints, I suggest you actually learn how to play them. They are actually pretty formful and at least for now can pay pretty well.

Oh, and I'll keep an eye out for Vinnie when we are at Saratoga Raceway.

Well, almost packed. Doing my regular Saturday morning laundry. Saturday morning at 7am you say? Well, work has beat me down so I can't sleep in anymore and when you live in a neighborhood/building that has a pretty decent Jewish population, what better time to do it?

Oh, and I do still have that picture of Vinnie.

Next report from Saratoga Springs NY.

Traffic was a little dense here and there, but we are now in Saratoga. It's pretty warm out right now. Going to need to get some supplies, then off to the raceway.

For those driving in, the bridge that goes back over 87 when you get off exit 14 is half missing. Looks like the thing just fell down from far away, but clearly they have just started demolition on the span. This means all traffic is going over the other span, so on big days, I expect there will be some backed up traffic, so might be a good idea to take an alternate route.

Back from the racino. Ran into friends so they joined us at Fortune's, the restaurant that overlooks the track. Not a bad place. We all went for the buffet. $24.95 per person and pretty good. I hit the prime rib twice, even after a nice tortelini salad and corn chowder. Had a few mussels and some stuffed pasta shells as well. Only disappointment was dessert. Thought it was cheesecake, but it wasn't, alas.

Played the stakes races at Colonial while there. They have monitors at most tables. Of the five races, played 3. One hit, one near miss, and one whiff. All told though, it's another $200 + to the bankroll and another winning day. Guess what my winner was? Turf sprint again. Starting to like those alot. Going for a drink at Sperry's now. See you all tomorrow!

Busy day today! Woke up early, or was that yesterday's prime rib waking me, but did crawl back into bed and slept til eight. This is unheard of. We hit the track by ten, just checking stuff out. Played with the goats and sheep in the petting zoo. Goats entertain me greatly. Their lives revolve only around eating and they will do whatever it takes to get a mouthful of that goat chow you get for 25 cents a handfull.

Two interesting things I saw. The Jim Dandy bar has been completely redone. It's going to be a much more open space now and will allow many more people inside. Had some reservations initially, but it does look good. Also, the local ABC affiliate has a tent up, so maybe they will be doing a lot of broadcasting. Didn't stay long and saw none of the races, but the place looks good. Got a picture to post as soon as I can get it on something I can that connect with the web. It's something few have seen....

We then went to the Wilton Mall to get remaining odds and ends. Picked up a French grammar, dictionary and exercise book. Have to learn French if I am to go on in Classics. Much academic work is written in French. Even Napoleon wrote a commentary on Caesar which is supposed to be quite good, for just one older example. Got to brush up on my German as well for the same reason. Also grabbed an HDMI cable so we can watch DVDs. We have a nice tv here, but cable not hooked up yet. We got that Pillars of the Earth miniseries that was just on Showtime that we both wanted to see, but never managed to catch. Also got a USB cable to charge my Blackberry, but despie looking carefully, I still grabbed the wrong one. Go back tomorrow and exchange. Have to go that way anyway as tomorrow is Harry Potter day.

After all this, we walked over to the Parting Glass for some pub grub and to watch a bit of the Yanks game. I had a sandwich called the Rasher, ham, Irish bacon, Swiss cheese and a light mustard sauce on egg batter fried bread. Probably about 8000 calories but really tasty. I find that bar a little annoying when crowded and the constant "Irish" music gives me a headache but it was pretty quiet in there today, so it was all good, at least until we noticed the picture of the bugler on the wall.....

Going to relax a bit. Done a good share of walking today and we'll be hitting the gym tomorrow. But for now the body is feeling really good.

Well, drove by it today. Still there and still looks the same. They had at least the back yard open today and had something going on there. Expect it will open as usual Friday.

Went to the Museum opening of the backstretch photo exhibition. Many of the photos were quite good. Catering by Longfellows, so they had some tasty bites. Had a slice of a cheese quesadilla and a taste of an onion dip. We didn't stay too long, but the wife did find the last Breyer Zenyatta so we had to get that.

Managed to figure out how to plat DVD through the laptop onto the tv so tonight's entertainment is set. God knows I need no more food.

At the track this morning and it is pouring. Better today than Friday. Work is going on everywhere. All the jockey statues they paint with the colors of the winners at the Nelson Ave gate ate still awaiting installation. At least it might not be all hot and muggy as it felt this morning.

Did make it to the gym this morning. New management from last year, but looks to have had a few upgrades. Knew better than to hit it too hard this morning like I did the first day last year. Tomorrow will likely hurt and Wednesday probably will be painful, but by next weekend should be ok.

Off to the Mall in a bit. My first movie review later!

No, more like mid nineties with possibiliy of storms, but cooling over the weekend.

Cancelling a major race day is a lot different than a random Thursday. Besides it has been very warm up here already, so horses should be acclimated by now whereas they weren't at Belmont

Is this correct? It's from the Glens Falls Post Star, not the most reliable source for racing news.

"Sunday’s event also highlighted the steeplechase, on which NYRA is putting a larger emphasis this year at Saratoga."

A little thinking on the situation said National Steeplechase Association and sure enough

There is an increase in the jump races this year. Nine total are to be run, with one or two held on alternating Thursdays. Still should be nine flat races each of those days though from what I've seen, but won't swear to it.

Today, or yesterday now, was another relaxing day. Enjoyed Harry Potter. Action packed and tied the story together well. Get to see so many of the characters from previous films. Neville may have stolen the show though at long last. If you've seen the other films, it's a must and won't disappoint. If you haven't, then where have you been the last ten years?

Had a bite at Irish Times, a pub near the park. The menu is standard faux Irish for the most part with the stuff that comes closer to the real thing being a bit to heavy for the warm weather, but we found a couple interesting things to try. The wife had what is called the boxty or something close to that. Had chicken wrapped in a potato pancake with curry sauce. Had an interesting zing to it. I had leek and potato soup, which was really tasty as it had a little curry in it as well, and the Irish Times spring rolls, which are essentially egg rolls made with corned beef rather than the traditional shrimp or pork. A little different. It was a nice place. Not fine dining by any means but another decent pub grubbery.

Got to head back later today. Been very relaxing these last couple days, but the craziness begins soon.....

Sad news to report. Our favorite lead pony Brian passed away over the winter due to colic. Brian was a big fat beast who never turned down a mint or apple, and was that a mess watching him eat an apple. He was all business though looking after his charges and never seemed to have any problem keeping up with them. He worked for Merrill Scherer and while in Sartoga lived right acorss from the Nelson Ave entrance. I'm sure we will make new friends in the equine community over time, but we will miss Brian.

I was headed over this morning to give him a peppermint and an apple, and found out he died. Molly didn't want to tell me yesterday because it has been so hectic trying to get set up.

Sometimes Brian was the only friendly face I saw up here on the bad, hectic days. I miss him.

Thanks for writing this, Al. He deserves a little tribute for being such a good horse.

There has been an ongoing overhaul of food service at NYRA tracks. Several changes were already made at Belmont and if you listened to Talking Horses, Andy and Jason often mentioned the meal deals that were offered there. This is part of that, though I'm sure the concerns of patrons was one of the driving forces behind it.

I know everyone here is brushing this under the rug,...........but;

Charles Hayward, NYRA’s president and CEO, said Wednesday that the weather service NYRA uses is calling for temperatures ranging from 88-91 degrees, but said an assessment on running the card won’t be made until Friday morning.

“Whether it’s a Wednesday in the middle of the meet or opening day, if it’s too hot, it’s too hot,” said Hayward, who added that extra hoses and plenty of ice will be available for horses following each of Friday’s 10 races. “We honestly don’t think that’s going to be the case.”

I'm keeping my fingers crossed on that assessment............ ;)

PS; Fed Brian and his pals peppermints and butterscotch drops for years.

Heading back north today. Kinda gross down here already. Forecast up north is only 95 tomorrow and 94 Saturday, so that's at least 5 degrees cooler than down state. Weather breaks Sunday so will have nice low to mid 80s summer weather for the next week at least. I really doubt there will be any cancellations, but it is possible I suppose.

Probably going out somewhere tonight as the train pulls in around 7. Left a lot of stuff up there so only have my trusty backpack to haul. Good thing too as Penn Station gets pretty warm on days like this if memory serves. Left side of the train going up is the river view!

Bringing the wife my Red Sox cap for Rivalry Day. Yes, I do have a Red Sox cap. I always get a cap when I go to a new park, so I currently have Phillies, Marlins, Mets, Washington, Pittsburgh, Baltimore, Chicago White Sox, and Oakland, not to mention the Brooklyn Cyclones to go with my many Yankees caps. That's not all the parks I've been to, but I lost my Cleveland cap some time ago and never did buy Cubs or Reds as it's been a very long time since I've been to either. The wife is actually a Mets fan, but I still think she should have sucked it up and represented for NYC. I am hoping it is really for her coworker, who actually is from the Boston area, but somehow I don't think so. Sadness. I still have hope that she will someday realize how much better life is on the dark side.

Haven't seen the opening day card yet. Think I'll download it now. I'll post a play now and then. Starting the meet with a bit more than $800 in my account, so let's see if we can make it through the meet without blowing that. The goal will be to double it. There, those are simple enough plans.

OTM Al
07-21-2011, 09:14 PM
We got cable! Unfortunately the Internet is down, so can't do any work tonight. The train was unbearable. The a/c died. It was around 95 when I got off the train and it felt good. Still was not worse than when all the party bimbos sat next to me. I thought that headache would never go away.

We went to City Tavern for dinner. Pub grub again but pretty good. We had the spinach and artichoke dib, of course, which not only came with chips, but also garlic breadsticks. The fun part was that they had sloppy joes and good ones and their specialty food was tater tots. Pretty darn good. Much better than Irish Times and Parting Glass. May make it to the top of the list for pub food.

Opening day tomorrow. Saw one or two I may play. That listed stakes looks like it will be a great race though may have too many contenders for me to play.

OTM Al
07-22-2011, 08:29 AM
Ugh. It is gross outside already. Humid this morning though that is supposed to diminish through the day and it is supposed to be a little cooler than yesterday. Can tell you it's still better than that train car, at least right now.

Got up early, saw friend Earle being interviewed on the news. We must restrain from mocking him because otherwise the wife will be doing it. No walk to the track today. May be spending much of the day in the place that has been dubbed Tennessee. There's a story there, but I'm not telling it here :)
The a/c in that place could be used for a meat locker.

Will post some plays later.

Ok, some early, pre-scratch plays. Here's the rules. My standard play is an exacta. Will play win if the top pick is 10-1 or so or better. The unit play is $5. Starting with $807.82.

1) 10/1+7, 1 unit, two if prices strong
2) (1+11) box, 1 unit. Don't like 1 1/16 maiden turf races. If price below $40, no play
3) no play
4) 2/1+6 and (1+2) box. 1 unit per
5) 6/5+8 two units. Like this race best. Love the six but bet I won't get the ML
6) no play. Don't play nw2l. Hate them
7) no play. My kind of race, but nothing speaks to me, so pass
8) like Here Comes Ben for this, but think I'm going to pass. Aikenite will screw me somehow.
9) 6/1+8 two units. Really like the six here.
10) hate beaten claimers almost as much as nwls. No play.

The weather is actually nicer than this morning. Bit of a breeze is reducing humidity.

Scratches wrecked me today, so play being scaled back. With changes,

Well, the one and seven were where they were supposed to be but the ten cooked himself early. Didn't figure on that tough of a pace. Back inside now and think I'm staying. Picked up a pulled pork burrito from the Cantina stand at Restaurant Row. Good stuff.

Went for a walk. Was starting to get sleepy. The food choices this year are great. There's a place near the carosel selling lobster Mac and cheese. I'm on that when it cools down. And just for you Tom, I made sure the Manhattan clam chowder guy was still there. Yep. It's called Sams and Clams now as they also sell Sam Adams beer. Speaking of which, the bar areas are packed and the back yard is pretty full. Probably would be better if it were cooler, but pretty good all the same. Restaurant Row now features Irish Times, Cantina, Putnam Market, and the former chicken guy. Hattie's of course still has its own area. Contrary to rumors, there are still lemonade stands and though moved around, Carolina BBQ still here in multiple locations.

In the sun, it is hot, but it's not bad in the shade. Heat must have got to the tip sheet guys. They were just sitting there simply saying they had all five winners so far. Weak.

How about the win for the little fellow! Nice ride too, shooting through that hole on the rail as speed began to back up. Love to see him get back to winning the way he used to. Loved his Preakness run last year.

Lots to do this weekend. Tomorrow night there is a reception for Old Friends. I think I've let my sponsorship lapse, so a good time to renew. Going to be an NTRA online NHC qualifier Sunday as well. I'll post pick for that tomorrow. I'll take any advice I can get as well as some races are at Del Mar and Woodbine, both places I have played rarely.

The 9 is getting over bet here in the feature as expected. Going to go ahead and punch the straight 6-1

OTM Al
07-22-2011, 05:39 PM
Guess the 9 was for real, so the first graded victory goes to Georgie's Angel.

No joy for day one. $76 bet, no return. Don't remember who was complaing about tomorrow's card, but it has several races I like on it. See if we can get some back. Feature is a real nice race. Only five runners but each has a Gr 1 or Gr 2 to her credit and any of them can win. Probably will just watch that one, but it should be fun.

Almost forgot to mention there will be a very good race tomorrow from Ascot as well, so will be at The Post early.

P-6 carries on day one as well for those of you who like such things. That bet is too big boy for me.

Awesome reporting! I'd love to go. I had the first race exacta, then lost the next 9 races! Ended up in the hole, but Saratoga is fun even when losing!

I love to hear about the food. The pulled pork burrito sounds delicious!

Watching the tail end of Yanks-As game. Hughes was rocky, but the Oakland pitcher was far worse.

Dinner at the Grey Gelding. This was my favorite restaurant up here, but rumor has it it is closing after the season. Just didn't catch on I guess. It is still good, but the selection seemed to be cut back to just the top selling items. The food is still very good and it's still worth dining at, but don't fall in love. Had the Pasta Venezia, pasta with peas, chicken and bacon in a light cream sauce. Pretty tasty. Wife had the same and the serving was so big I think we could have it again tomorrow. And of course we started with the artichoke dip. You have to do that.

Finished watching Pillars of the Earth tonight. Not bad. Ian McShane throughout and Donald Sutherland early on really chew up the scenery. Predictable in the end, but enough twists along the way to make it interesting.

Think I may have to do some clothes shopping. Al seems to be getting more of a raise this year than he thought and may be moving up in his real world profession, so time for a bit of an upgrade. You feeling me yet on this Earle?

Well, soon to bed. Not as comfortable as my own, but what foreign bed ever is.

fShould the last time interrupting this great blog Al, but I figured I would list my few places to eat that I think anyone would love. Thuis is from my own dining experience and thou few , to me there worth a mention as Al seems to be on a different eating schedule than me.

Mama Mia's Italian

PJ's BBQ a must I admit, just not fond of the chicken there

Auggie's Italian a super super family style Italian

http://augiesrestaurant.com/

Breakfast is a few places

Triangle Diner

Malta DIner

and as always if a late late night Comptons on Broadway , open at 3am

Now for me the Price Chopper, Ballston Ave store, has the freshest seafood that they will Fry or steam, for you on the spot and take home with you.
For me a pound of fresh scallops and few pieces of Cod or Halibut, with fries, or with out, to me an awesome in home meal, and there olive and salad bar will hold it's own also.

My daily breakfast was there for awhile an Bagel and to change things up a little, w/various topping's from Salmon to Peanut Butter and then a Boston Creme Donut to boot, best donuts in town, all for under 3.00 , and coffee elsewhere thou, Stewart's or DD would work . A cheap quick breakfast.

Those are your economy meals that kept me alive thru the winter here.

The last place I recommend is Cliff's Country Inn, also great for me, love this place as well as Auggie's, you will enjoy I am sure.

Sorry Al, keep up the awesome blogs and if you stop by BEST you'll see me there during the day and volunteering sometimes at the night activities they provide, like today Tom Durkin was there as well as was Mrs. Whitney and family , and she was looking good too , woman has a heart of gold, I hope we never forget that part of her. I now return your blog back to your control sir, thanks for everything.

PS: Was there this morning and could not find the British race place, was told at The Post, by the Shake Shack, but did not see anything as of 9am today, than had to leave, where was it again, please

That's a good list Patrick. I'm looking for fun and different sorts of things, and while I do try to go to some less pricy places, sometimes the places I go are more costly than some want or are able to do. That's what is great about Saratoga though. So much around there is something for everyone.

Much cooler this morning. Only 70 right now. Probably not as hot as yesterday, but will be a little more humid. This for that I guess. Chance of showers. Time to get ready for the gym.

English racing is supposed to be at The Post, right by Shake Shack. Day one half the people don't know what they are supposed to say. I'll confirm this morning.

This is the horse some of us had alot riding on last year on Pace week at the Spa.

I guess he wanted no part of being behind or around any horses this year. ;)

Pre scratch plays for today:

1) 5/6+9, 2 units. Like the 5 a lot here. Almost always right there in the stretch
2) likely pass. Like the 7 but should be over bet
3) 6/3+4 and a (4+6) box, 1 unit per. Don't trust the fav at all here
4) NW2L, not with my money, pass
5) 8/3+4 and (4+8) box, 1 unit per. GP numbers often don't translate well, so going to try to beat the 7.
6) tough tough race. Passing unless scratches reveal something.
7) 7/8+10, 2 units. 7 will be my pick o' the day. That probably is too much weight to carry.
8) no play. Nobody jumps for me though may play win only for 2 units on 11 if the ML holds.
9) 4/3+5, 2 units
10) taking pictures
11) heading home to change for Old Friends benefit.

So 5, possibly 6 plays before scratches. Expect to lose at least one. The wife brought back fresh cinnamon rolls when she went to get the paper. Better get on that.

Sorry for lack of update. AT&T's data network is down. Borrowed a computer to check in real quick.

Quality shopping experience this morning. Managed about $300 in discounts due to sales and such. Should be all set for a while. Managed to get back to catch the King George. Terrible about Rewilding, but certainly says a lot about his inconsistant career. Never seen a breakdown in a UK race before, though I know they do happen though rarely. Didn't get a chance to see if UK racing was running at the Post, but did go over there a bit ago for a pulled pork sandwich (prices are down there too) and saw a leftover program from this morning, so we can safely assume that is the place.

Skipped race 1 with the scratch, but will play race 8. Likely 11/2+6. Once again chalk just imploded in a 2yo maiden. I never never never use the board to pick those, so I don't get the complaints of the horizontal players when such a maide is buried in the sequence. There are ways better than board watching to pick those I think.

Not sure when I'll be back, but will try to check in when I can.

good luck al at this great meet. i like a horse saturday in the 8th race, Crypto Kitten. the filly has some big time ability, she is making her debut as a 4 year old saturday and the oddsmaker got her at 12-1. i am praying for 3-1.crypto kitten ran did not show to much ability today and ran dead last. it was simply a very rotten bet.

Hey Rookies. Had bet before the scratch so I just kept the 4-5, which was the way. Had I not bet though I never would have taken that price, but done is done and to quote the immortal ACDC, I'm back in black. Going to the benefit now and looking good. I'll give a wrap when I get back home.

OTM Al
07-23-2011, 11:41 PM
Ok, back for a wrap up. Sorry I couldn't do more. Really was annoyed about that network issue. Never had that before up here.

First Business. I started with $807.82. Yesterday I lost all bets for a toal loss of $76, so I started today with $731.82. $90 total bet (there was a $10 refund for a late scratch). Had two hits today, $5 exacta in the 8th for a total of $231.25 and $10 exacta in the 9th for a total of $136. This puts the account at $1009.07, + $201.15 for the meet.

The reception for Old Friends NY was nice. It was at the Washington Inn out Broadway. Hung out for a bit and made the rounds. Notables present were Angel Cordero, Richie Migliore and Jack Knowlton. Think I spelled that right. One of the Funny Cide owners. They had some nice stuff at their silent auction, including several Moneighs and a nice Munnings print but I didn't bid. Just a little above my budget level. Instead we're going to go out and visit. I'll make a donation then. I've been to the original in KY and it's a great place. Got to wear some of my new threads so was feeling classy, except for the bandaid on my thumb, which I tried to slice off removing tags. Fortunately, the wound was minor....

Afterward, we went to Sperry's for dinner. Still the best. Had the Cajun Spice Soaked Ribeye. Came with tiny potatoes and some mixed veggies on the side. Delicious. Had the meat induced coma coming on in the end. The wife had one of their salads and the artichoke fritters as she was in a vegetable mood. She said it was perfect.

And now home. The classic women in prison flick, "Caged" is on the tube. Went over tomorrow's card and don't think I'll have too many plays. Want to find someone to beat Overdriven with in the feature, but not sure I can settle, so it may be a pass. Got the NHC contest tomorrow too. Will again post all picks, but in the morning as I'm getting a bit sleepy. You Woodbine and Del Mar players, comments on those races tomorrow are appreciated.

Talk at you again in the morning.

I keep looking for you in the crowds at the track, but no luck so far.

Great racing these past two days.

After the races tonight we went to Karavalli, on Caroline St., and enjoyed the Indian food. I had the roasted OtmAl -:D
The three of us then went a walked the downtown area for the Hats Off Saratoga festival, as the evening cooled down.

Gave my regards to Spit and Spat.

OTM Al

Hey offtrack. I've only made a few laps on the back yard so far. Cooler today so maybe will spend a little more time back there. The undisclosed location known as Tennessee has a/c, so really didn't want to move the last couple days except to run out and watch a race or get food. Almost went to Karavalli last night actually. Had we not been able to get a seat at Sperry's that was the plan. Some good food there. I could go vegetarian on Indian food.

Does anyone else think that Chef Dan Eaton guy on YNN is just going to shoot himself at the end of one of his segments? He's supposedly on NY1 down in the city too, but they never show him down there. At least I haven't seen a Billy Fusillo ad yet.

Now to buisness. Today's picks at Saratoga:

1) Do not trust Shakeira to win or lose. No bet
2) Interesting race. Not planning to play, but maybe a small win bet on 8, especially if it stays near ML
3) NW2L, no thanks
4) Maybe a win on 3, but doubt it. Stay away from Bojan if you are betting win
5) At last! 1/5+9 and a (1+9) box, 1 unit each
6)Competative race, but not my bag, pass
7) 9/3+8, 2 units, but need better than $30 on the short half of that to play
8) 5/2+12, 2 units
9) If I bet anyone, it's the 7
10) Nope

So pretty short on plays today. 3 probables before scratches and a couple maybes.

As for the NHC contest, here are my picks. Tradition dictates I play along and do $2 W/P and see if I can at least be positive in the ROI

This isn't the race order, but is the PP order as they sit on my table

Dmr 5: 12
Dmr 6: 7
Dmr 8: 5
Mth 6: 6
Mth 8: 6
Sar 5: 9
Sar 9: 7 (got to try!)
WO 4: 3
WO 7: 8
WO 10: 3

A lot of people think you always have to be all price oriented in these things. That I think is more true when you are picking your own races. In races chosen, I think taking the most likely winner is a bit better strategy. Let's see how it goes.....

OTM Al
07-24-2011, 01:49 PM
AT&T seems to be back up all of a sudden. Was putting my NHC bets in through an app on my phone. It was slow too, and I seemed to get the Del Mar race 5 twice. Oh well, at least it was only four bucks.

Had some lunch from Lobster Hut. Got both the Lobster roll and the Mac and cheese. Pretty tasty and no skimping on the lobster meat. It was a bit picy though, but lobster ain't cheap.

Renewed my Racing Museum membership. I do love that place.

The weather is really nice today. Heat is gone. Hope the city is like this. Will make whatever fresh hell I have to deal with tomorrow bearable.

Correction on race 8 wager. After scratch it will now be 5/2+11. Will play race 2 as well with 2 unit win on 8 and a 1 unit (4+8) box

OTM Al
07-24-2011, 02:37 PM
Hate to say this but I bailed. Very few races for me today and without my network operating again, I just got impatient. Walked back to the apartment, swinging by the Spring Street Deli on the way for some soda. Grabbed a menu as it looks good.

At least now I can follow my NHC picks and watch a little of the ball game and even manage to place a couple bets and be sure they went through.

Oh, found another reason why having the NYRA account is convienient. Instead of paying some ridiculous amount to a bank machine to withdraw, just go to a teller, take out a couple bucks, and then replace it later. I know some people up here who's bank does not have a branch in town regularly do this. Saves a lot of money that way.

OTM Al
07-24-2011, 02:52 PM
I should mention it only seems to be AT&T that is bad right now. I know Sprint was working and that is usually the worst of the lot.

Officially proclaiming a second straight winning day with the $82 exacta I had for five bucks along with the $2 contest W/P the fifth was good for around a $205 net. Low and slow and build that bankroll. And the Yanks are winning! Another good job by Colon. Who knew?

OTM Al
07-24-2011, 03:58 PM
As I was afraid of, not going to get close to $30 on the short end of the exacta and even the longer horse is half its ML in the 7th. That means pass. So instead of staring at the tote, let's share some pictures. I call this first one, which I took at Open house a week ago, "Urban Myth"

Arghh!! Tight one for the Yanks as Rivera and Robertson were a bit off, but take it. Next race at the Spa may be my last bet. Get this home we'll be doing really well!

Was feeling tired and thought I'd just cash it in as far as the contest goes. Then I said, what the hell, let's try with 3 to go. Just nailed a 10-1 with 2 races to go. Should get me in striking distance. My original pick is 9/2 in the next. Might stick with it if it stays there

OTM Al
07-24-2011, 08:10 PM

OTM Al
07-24-2011, 08:57 PM
Might not be enough. Finish 7th. But if 4 ahead of me are already in.....but that's a stretch. A good try anyway.

So the wrapup, on final picks did pretty good on the contest but didn't play money on those last two bombs. Winning day in the end though. $124 total wagered, $249.30 won, total now at $1134.37, + $326.55

OTM Al
07-25-2011, 11:53 AM
Heading home. Trying to come up with a way to get back up here next week....well, probably should stay home and take care of some things. Sure the parrots are mad enough at me right now.

Sitting in Hudson at the moment. Temps are cool and sky is overcast. Wouldn't be surprised if there is some rain today.

I miscalculated my days up here. I'm back up for Whitney weekend. I think I told at least one person I wasn't back until PA weekend, but for some reason I'd forgotten there are 7 weekends now, not 6, and I am up for all but the next one.

Sure I'll hear a few things over the next ten or so days, so will pass them along. Pretty sure I'll be playing a few races along the way. See if we can keep that ROI going up. At about 213% on investment right now, so pretty happy. Would love to get one big one, but consistent smaller ones are good by me.

I sit at work and wish I were elsewhere...

Few things to report. It seems we did win the silent auction and now own a Commentator bridle. Still do want to make a donation to Old Friends though and hope to be able to get over there one of the days I'm up.

The jockeys now go to Cafe Metro to dance, drink and throw down on each other, so if you are into watching short men behave badly, that's the place to go on Mondays.

Annual Jockey-Trainer basketball game is tonight.

Hat giveaway this weekend. Keep your hands near your body and make no sudden movements. Spinners react to sudden movements.....

Am I the only one who was not overly impressed with Frankel today? No speed in that race gave it away to him. Pace was fairly soft. Hey, he won, can't take that away, but I think it looked a lot better than it really was.

OTM Al
07-28-2011, 09:29 AM
The horsemen have taken revenge on the jockies in the annual roundball match-up. The horsemen side, staring the likes of Todd Pletcher, Carlos Martin, P.J. Campo and NYRA chairman Steve Duncker, trained by Kieran Mclaughlin (get it, trained.....) took out the jocks team led by Kent Desormeaux and Javier Castellano (and some big people ringers), coached by Angel Cordero. Commentary and an undending stream of comic insults was provided by Mitch Levites, who produces many of the NYRA oriented telecasts. Pretty good crowd showed as well with many trainers, jocks, NYRA people and families also in attendance.

Will jockey softball be as entertaining? We shall see as I think I will be up to attend that event.

It's all perspective. I love playing maiden races, especially the ones when no one has run yet or once at most and I've been scoring well on turf sprints, so the other major complaint is in my wheelhouse as well. Not too many other places I'd rather be on a summer afternoon. The complaints being made simply show us how spoiled Saratoga has made us.

the thing that wonderful about those maidens or other baby races at the spa is that somewhere in there is the next secretariat, big brown, seattle slew etc.

if we only which one was going to be the next champion. the place is so special, almost surreal.

toward the end of the meet, when that fall chill creeps in at nite and you get that mist that the morning workers gallop thru....t's like a scene out of a movie.

The whole place is like that. I wish everyone could watch a race from the winner's circle or from the roof just once. It'll make you remember what made you fall in love with the game all over again. It's like when Shoeless Joe asks Ray in Field of Dreams if this is heaven. First time Ray says, "No it's Iowa." Second time he gets it.

Will have a little play along from home today and tomorrow. Steve Crist does it so why not me too. Had a look at tomorrow's card and have only a few choices as of right now. Got a long shot for the Diana. That is some competitive race! Matter of fact, that's why I have so few picks right now. Meat grinder of a card. Going to be watching a lot tomorrow I think.

Also signed up for the Twin Spires qualifier tomorrow. Haven't looked at the Calder races yet as they weren't in the DRF I bought this morning, but a set of tough races. I'll post my spa picks tomorrow and my subject to change contest bets. I think this week I will continue the tradition of actually playing them but will bet my final picks rather than initial ones. A couple $20 winners will do that to you.

For those lucky enough to be up this weekend, enjoy. Should be nice. Btw, I hate Dominus tomorrow. Will try to drive him out of exacta. Also, for those getting up early tomorrow, last day of the Glorious Goodwood meet features Midday against Snow Fairy in the Nassau.

Up early and plenty done already, but much yet to do. Entered prelininary picks for the TS contest as follows

Sar4: 3
Sar5: 7
Crc7: 8
Crc8: 4
Mth8: 1
Mth9: 9
Sar9: 10
Dmr2: 6
Dmr3: 6
Dmr4: 2

The Del Mar and Monmouth picks are too chalky so likely will be changing those around a bit. Best to put in something early though as a sudden distraction could prevent you from entering anything in a race.

My plays pre scratch today at the Spa:
1) Like the 6, but likely to be too short. 7 is of interest as well but 90% chance of a no play
2) 2 would be tempting, but does not have a win early trainer and Ramon will get him over bet. Love races like this one, but nothing else jumping at me at the moment
3) Love the 8, hate the odds. Good shot for the 4 coming second
4) Playing 3 in the contest. Won't get 5-1 will I? If so, a win bet
5) 7 looks good for this, but again odds likely to be bad. Will play win if can get 5-1, but doubt it
6) Hah! At last! 5/4+7 and (4+5) box, 1 unit each
7) They all look the same. Pass
8) 2/6+8 2 units
9) This is a great, great betting race. Don't take something too short. 10/5+6 and a (6+10) box, 1 unit each
10) Going to hope that the 2 and 5 beat each other up. 4/3+7 and (4+7) box, 1 unit each
11) Love turf sprints but not touching this one. Almost no back form at all for any of these at this specialist distance. This is the kind of turf sprint that makes people hate them and think they have no form. Pass

Midday beats Snow Fairy by a couple in winning her 3rd straight Nassau Stakes. Slow pace in this one though.

07-30-2011, 12:30 PM
Scratches have really taken away some horses I really like in this meet so far. Have changed some bets after seeing what's going on

1) 6/1+3 and a (1+6) box, 1 unit each. The 1-6 combo isn't paying well, but I do like the 6 a bit.
2) Considering a (2+3) box for 1 unit. Let's see prices first
8) Steve threw out some good info on the show, so will instead play 2/6+8 and a (2+8) box for 1 unit each
9) This just hurt. 1/5+6 and a (1+6) box. Have to change this in the contest as well

So 5 bets, maybe 6, though if the 9th isn't paying at least $40, I think I'll drop it too.

OTM Al
07-30-2011, 01:25 PM
Ugh....If the 1-6 isn't paying well. why not go with the 3-6 then. That would have made the day a winner from the get go.

Am going ahead with the 1 unit (2+3) box here. Discipline is lacking a bit this morning?!?!?

Still not much happening. Contest has been a chalk fest and I haven't played much chalk. Got off the 1 in Sar9 to play the 5. Changed half the real bet to a (1+5) box rather than (1+6). Also vaccuumed the house. At home wagering is a nice thing.

Just a tough day all around. Pretty much out of the contest. Trying the 7 in the final race. All chalk till the last race when a longshot came in and didn't have him. Oh well, tomorrow is another day.

Tonight's dinner was a delicious spinich fettucine with mushroom sauce. This is really easy and quite tasty. Melt about a quater to a third of a stick of butter. Toss in a packare of pre sliced mushrooms and sautee. When the mushrooms are cooked, sprinkle in about 2 tbs of flour. Brown that up a little and then pour in a can of evaporated milk and mix for a couple minutes while it comes up to a boil. Once it begins to thicken, turn off the heat and let stand. Serve over pasta and toss on a little Parmesan cheese and perhaps some parsley. Cheap meal, quick and tasty.

The final sad tally. $156 bet, $22.70 returned, loss for the day of $133.30. Well, done worse than that before, so back at it tomorrow. That takes us to $346 wagered, and still + $193.25 for the meet.

Contest at Monmouth tomorrow. It's free and winner get a BC trip. All you have to do is pick all 14 races before first post. We'll give it a shot. See if the Yanks can sweep the day-night double header with the O's.

does anyone know if mr oxley has severed his longtime relationsp

I was not sure where to put this , or if I should , but here goes anyway.

Sunday my off day and I will be at the Macy's tent today during the race's manning a table for BEST for a little fundraising activities, not quiet sure what we will be doing exactly, as they sprung it on me very quickly, so if at the track today stop by and say hi if you dare.

I am easy to spot the 400lb grey haired guy in shorts, but not the "nutter" shorts , so it would be safe to stop by.

Also it seems there may be a trucker race in the 7th, a 10/4 exacta box.

Patrick, this is a fine place to put this. Good luck with it today.

Just put in my Monmouth picks for today. Will play $2 W/P on them as well

1) 1
2) 1
3) 4
4) 2
5) 3
6) 7
7) 5
8) 10
9) 2
10) 2
11) 7
12) 3
13) 10
14) 4

So I went with Pants on Fire in the Haskell. Nice recency and a win over the track for a trainer who owns the track.

Not many races I liked today at Saratoga, though not to say there aren't some good ones.

2) 4/7+8 and (4+7) box, 1 unit per
4) (3+4) box, 2 units
9) 7 to win if 5-1 or better, 2 units

If you can figure a way to beat Sidney's Candy in the 8th, let me know because I can't see it. Money could have been made here if Get Stormy didn't fail to enter.

I don't think so. He's had horses in with Ward recently. Too, he's done all of Mr.Oxley's purchasing at the sales for many years.

Wow, finally hit one at Monmouth. Figured if I wanted her yesterday in the Diana, I sure wanted her today in the Gr 3 event.

Did make a play for the Ruffian

7/3+6 and a (3+7) exacta box. Not getting the 5-1 Win price on the 7, so let's see if we can get something else out of her. Exacta prices are nice.

Just another bad day. $116 bet, only $43 returned, loss of $73. That puts us to $462 wagered, but at least still +$120.55 for the meet. Feels a little better to think about it that way.

And Goldikova won for fun, as she should have, today. Her 14th Gr 1 and Peslier's 100th. Now that is quite a feat as well. I like his riding and do keep an eye out when he's riding.

Got to be at work tomorrow again, just like most of the rest of you. Just got to make it until Thursday and I can get back on that train north. The Whitney looks like it will be a defining race this year.

Hope no one lost any limbs to spinners at the track today.

I wasn't planning on betting tomorrow, but Caleb's Posse is listed 12-1 on the line in the 8th as is Dixieland Cowgirl in the 9th. I liked Caleb earlier this year and the cutback may do him good. Dixieland Cowgirl got put on my watch list after her last. Hopefully I will get a chance to look in and see what's what. Might just have to go get some PPs......

What do you do when you see three races in a row with horses you really like, but have no idea what you would put under them? Damn right, Pick 3. so my one play for the day is the following pick 3s starting with race 7

$2: 5 // 4 // 2,12
$1: 5 // 4,6,7 // 2,12,13
$1: 5,6 // 4 // 2,12,13
$1: 5,6 // 4,6,7 // 2,12
$1: 6 // 6,7 // 13

Never forget the "idiot" ticket. That's the last one on the list that covers the chance that you did pick all the right horses but didn't have one on top and thus you don't get paid. Leaves you feeling like an idiot. Been there. $33 invested, could pay well if my tops come home. The train trip home could be a pins and needles event....

Many of you know how critical (read "generally hate") the journalistic stylings of one Paul Moran. Oops, I said his name so that means I have to include his tag line....

Paul Moran is a two-time winner of the Media Eclipse Award, and has received various honors from the National Association of Newspaper Editors, Society of Silurians, Long Island Press Club and Long Island Veterinary Medical Association. He also has been given the Red Smith Award for his coverage of the Kentucky Derby. Paul can be contacted at (he actually gives his email, but I'm not)

Anyway, Mr. Moran (see blurb above) tackles the subject of spinners in his latest piece...

http://espn.go.com/horse-racing/story/_/id/6823535/saratoga-spinners

I find spinners hillarious and cause for much philosophical discourse. I believe it was fiveoutofsix who began waxing on the subject, saying how they looked like a long line of doomed souls marching to hell until he noticed everyone looking at him with the WTF face. Priceless moment. Pretty accurate too.

Now Mr. Moran (ibid.) does get a little in that direction, but his crustiness just has to show through. He starts off well, but can't make it through three paragraphs before the complaining begins. Perhaps it becomes second nature when one grows old in the sports writing game. "It wasn't good back then, but it was bettah.....". I personally found 2 of the first five races quite playable, and while I didn't win, they were good ones for me. Bet a few others found them good too.

Now paragraph 4 gets back to the theme, ok, but then we hit paragraph 5 in which he make an egregarious (did I spell that right? I'm not checking...) error. He claims that the three dollar price of spinning for the cap was a bargain compared to the price of a beer at the track. Now anyone that knows the reputation of Mr. Moran (etc., etc.) knows there's no way he values a hat more than a beer, yet a beer can be bought on track for $3. What gives here? Could it be that Mr. M. (no legal ramifications here?...ok, see above) has completely lost touch with what goes on at a race track? He also doesn't seem to realize (par 7) that other giveaways downstate, especially the calendar promotion on Jan. 1st does quite well also, but you just don't see some things if you never leave the press box.

This is a story that this columnist (who has won no awards, belongs to no societies, but once was a Boy Scout) will continue to follow throughout the summer. One thing I do know about giveaways though. If NYRA ever discontinued them, the town would get burned down.

Got the first leg of the P3 home with my second choice as Lisa's Boobytrap seemed to think she was doing one of those FL 4.5f tuneup sprints. Completely unsustainable fractions at the 7f specialist distance. Absolutely destroyed all the speed. Betting in the feature has me scratching my head. I know this is a competative race, but I wouldn't want the top 3 favorites at all. Got to change doesn't it?

All set to head north tomorrow. Got my new iPhone from work yesterday so hopefully data issues are now a thing of the past. Like it ok except the fact that I can't attach a ringtone to my calendar like I could on my old Blackberry. Wonder why that sort of flexibility has been left out so far. I need that reminder as I often lose track of time at work. Well, that's not happening tomorrow. Out at 2:30 for the 3:15 Ethan Allen to Rutland, VT with stops in Yonkers, Croton-Harmon, Rheinbeck, Poukeepsie, Hudson, Albany, Schenectady, and Saratoga Springs (no idea after that....)

Watching the Yanks kicking the crap out of the White Sox again. I think Whie Sox fans are an urban myth. Only one I ever knew was my grandfather, and he's been gone for some time now. South Sider, born and raised.

Hambo is Saturday. Only race with those little cart things I'll bet as I like how they have to qualify in. Everyone is good and thus you can find prices. I got no idea how to play these regularly but it's not hard to see class versus price. Anyone out there has opinions on this, throw them out. Always interested in learning new things.

Ah, back in town. Train was right on time. We were going to go get that Cuban sammich at long last, but as we approached, we heard the strains of a trumpet, or perhaps a bugle, so we turned right around and went up to Broadway. Dinner at Cantina. Tasty. Not remotely authentic as it is very Americanized, but fun. Started with duck taquitos that came with a raspberry sauce. I had the cheese enchiladas for my main course. You cannot go wrong with cheese and rice and black beans. Afterward we stopped by the Bullpen to have a beer and watch the ball game. It was pretty empty and there was a reason for that. Don't need to put that one on your must do list.

Speaking of the bugler, he was beaten by two old ladies in the contest today. Funny stuff. I know someone that got a big laugh out of that.

Time to relax a bit before we start it up again tomorrow.

Nice day. Got a workout in this morning. Feels good. Have a few I'm interested in early on the card today. Will firm that up when I can get my hands on a paper form. It's odd as I can use the elctronic version easily and I have a copy, but there still is something comforting and empowering about that paper form.

Promo today is"Rivalry Day" highlighting the Yankees-Red Sox games. Even though the game doesn't start til 7, they are keeping certain areas of the track open to watch. Probably would go for a bit but we have an invite to a barbeque. I don't miss a good barbeque. I was going to bring my replica NY Knights cap and Jersey (Roy Hobbs lives!) but I forgot. If you ever saw the movie but didn't read the book, don't read the book. It's good, but it doesn't end the same way. For once I'll take the Hollywood version.

So I'll get my picks up in a bit. Then I'll have to see if I can find those Canadians!

AT&T data network seems to be working for the moment. That was a good workout this morning. Feel like curling up for a nice little nap. Anyway, here are my picks for the day.

1) 5/1+7 and a (5+7) box, 1 unit each. Like the 5. His name is clearly an address that seems familiar. I want to say Chicago, but not sure.
2) 8/2+7 and a (2+8) box. 1 unit each. One of my favorite angles here. First out in a stake, and not a cheap one at that, making second start.
3) (4+7) box. Either 1 or 2 units. Kinda wishy-washy on this one so will wait for price. Won't play if less than $30
4) Likely will pass though think the 5 looks very good and the 9 intrigues me
5) Nope
6) The 2 is a favorite angle, but nothing really stands out. Likely pass
7) Now this is a race! 13f. 4/5+6 and a (4+6) box, 1 unit each.
8) Not playing. 10 looks like he may be a really bad favorite.
9) I got a barbeque to go to.....

Rough part is both breakdowns today were top picks. Bearpath was just odd. On turf and not going that fast. Some thought it was a shoulder, not a leg, which has a better chance for repair. Hope he will be able to recover. Jock was a little shaken, but not injured.

A little overcast already and a bit cooler as a result. Seems alcohol was a little out of control last night. Not at the BBQ though. That was nice. Got to rag on Astrology with one of the DRF handicappers. That always feels rewarding, especially since he's never seen a dime of my money. No it was this morning when someone had thought it was a good idea to pile a bunch of tree and weed cuttings on top of cars. At least they left the ones they put on mine in the plastic barrel. Then, on the way out of CVS I was about to get mad that someone had placed an empty beer bottle next to my car. Closer observation showed it was not my car and the beer bottle was accompanied by a pile of vomit and the previous owner of both was apparently sleeping it off in the car. One wonders if he will wake in the same spot. Or, to quote Lois Griffin, "I don't know, Peter. Meth is a hell of a drug".

Tried to put my picks in on the new horsetourneys.com site for their free contest and it doesn't seem to be working. Thought this was a great idea by the Ellis Park people to start this up, but if it ain't working, there'll be some angry people. Will try again later.

News also last night that NYRA will now be taking harness on simulcast and web site. Thought that would be great as I could take a guess on the Hambo, but it seems they are only allowed NY tracks at the moment. Oh well, likely money wasted anyway as I don't know trotters at all.

Today's pre scratch picks
1) nice looking race, but no one speaks to me, so pass
2) 3/1+9 and a (3+9) box, 1 unit each. Just don't trust firsters on the turf like I do on dirt like....
3) 6/1+7 and a (6+7) box, 1 unit each. Not a Zito fan but 6 looks live
4) pass
5) 4/1+8, 2 units. Like the firster of the entry better, but both could be good. Will not play if less than $30, which is very possible
6) 6/3+5 and a (5+6) box, 1 unit each. Really like the 6 here and will play win as well if there is a price
7) 5/4+7 two units, but if 14 can get in, this changes
8) 8/5+9 two units
9) (6+7) box, two units. Must pay $30, which may be tough. Otherwise just going to take pictures. The 7 has won me a lot of money this year so see if we can still ride that train.
10) 1/4+8 one unit. This race is tough and may just pass. Think it will set up for closers.
11) Had to pick this for contest, but doubt I'll play. Bud White is the man though. Think it's a good name too being a son of Officer. Wish there were more movies like LA Confidential

I was wanting to post some pictures from my running around in the backstretch area all day, and even could do some of the front stretch too, or even around town , but could not figure out how to get them here in my own post, so Al could I post a link to my blog here.

I promise from now till end of the meet, there will be no drama, just pictures and good easy going comments, lol

Did a change up for the 5th. Dropped the 8 and added the 3. Serling made me look at him again, and I think he had a point. Did not bet the second. Had to run home and put on a suit. Long story, hopefully one with a good ending. So I am now a well dressed, though a bit sweaty, man about town.

Managed to catch up with Rookies again, though couldn't stay for long. Maybe tomorrow I can finally sit down with those guys for a little while. Good group.

It is beginning to rain harder now. The rest are on the dirt though so last turf race will get in ok. Not betting the race. Price just not good enough given the level of competition. Next one probably will be a no bet as well, but we'll see. Need to check for horses good in the off going as it is getting wet fast now.

Well, no winners today (didn't play what was a winner in the Test) but only $80 wagered, so no big deal. More important things had to be done today anyway. Those duties though did take me into the paddock for the Test and Whitney and the winner's circle for the Test. Did you see me on TV?

$715 wagered, +$381.05 in the good for the meet.

Haven't looked at tomorrow yet. Expect much the same weather for tomorrow.

Jacob and Anthony's for dinner tonight.

Back home and have some time to sum up the day. Already gone over tomorrow. A few plays but much depends on the weather. A lot of rain already. If it stops soon, it will make for a good turf tomorrow as they were going to water it well tonight anyway. We shall see.

Loved seeing Turbulent Descent. No doubter. Bo Derek came, I assume to see her. She's still got a winning smile.

Tizway to the top of his division with a bullet. Didn't get a chance to see Mary Lou today, but can't believe she would have missed it.

The Cuban Sandwich at Jacob and Anthony's was pretty good, but once you've had the real thing, which you aren't getting north of Miami, you are spoiled. They do have delicious deserts though as we had the warm apple tart. Also serve 750 ml craft beers. Had the wheat. Not bad. Saw the Mig there and chatted a bit. Unfortunately, the Bugler plays there Wed-Sat with his band. Well, his band is good. Now we know why his playing at the track is sub-par. Too damn loud when they are inside too. Not what I want to hear when eating.

Need some sleep now. See you in the morning.

Awake but barely. Likely to have more rain today and NYRA site already says they are off the turf today, but that is only races 1,5, and 11 so that makes the impact not so bad.

i am happy to hear that you are having an awesome time at the spa. i remember a few good times there myself.

i kinda like the 1a in the 8th there today WICKED MIZZ. i only wish i had a better gauge to go by with her because she worked with SINGLET and SINGLET just barely won the maiden claiming race on friday there and this race got some really big guns in it.

Kinda tired still. We have the TRF benefit tonight, so thinking I'll stick around for a couple, hang with Rookies a bit, and head home. Can nap and play the contest. Think I'll break with tradition today and not do the $2 W/P thing. Just not that into actual play today. That said, I do have a couple picks

2) (2+6) box, 2 units. Keep playing against Todd, as he is over bet badly
4) (2+5) box, 2 units.
6) was going to play this one but got scratched out. I don't trust the 4
7) 2/7+8 and a (2+8) box, one unit each
8) 6/1+9 two units
9) 8-2 straight, 4 units. Might even get crazy and play a 8/2+7/1+2+4+7 tri for 3 or 4 bucks.

Came back to the house. Hung out with Rookies for the first four races. They plyed me with that good Canadian beer, for which I am grateful. Safe trip home guys. Look forward to seeing you again next year.

Little too much sun for me though. Going to get a shower and play the contest and the rest of the card from the shaded confines of the home base. Besides, wanted to watch the Versus broadcast. The Indy Car race is on now, but looks to be progressing at a good clip, so shouldn't pose a problem.

Did not bet race 2 as the board said I was on chalk. Did go ahead with race 4, but half an exacta is about as good as half an answer, neither gives you anything. See if we can get one home in the 7th.

Another shout out to the Spring Street Deli. Good sandwiches.

Starting to get my stuff together to head back. Some day yesterday. Not much a need to keep watching races yesterday after my last bet as the contest crashed. Was doing ok, but with a couple long shots early, I likely wasn't going to win. They rescheduled it for next Saturday, though I think I'm also signed up for another one that day too. This of course is why they did a free one first. Not quite as bad having technical problems on a free venture than on one in which people paid, though being a racing contest, I'm sure there was plenty of moral outrage expressed anyway.....

Went to the TRF benefit last night. It was quite something. The event was held at the City Center and was catered by Angelo Mazzone, who is in charge at Prime. It started upstairs for hors d'oevres, which were facinating just to look at, and then moved downstairs for the program and dinner. This was no chicken hockeypuck event. The main course was a beef short rib and lobster tail that was fantastic. The program was hosted by Bobby Flay and Carolyn Conley, who you that have HRTV I guess would know. Their was an award presentation to Frank Stronach for his efforts. Really a vanity thing, the sort that the wealthy love to give each other, though he has done some things to help retired horses. His speech was a bit odd and his solutions weren't very realistic, but I think he does care. After dinner was well under way, Tom Durkin came up and roasted Bobby by going over his race call from a couple years ago. This was pretty funny and those that still think Tom can't carry a line know very little. After that they had an auction conducted by the Fasig-Tipton auctioneers. This stuff was way out of my range, but they were able to raise quite a bit of money for TRF. Last item was a Medaglia d'Oro breeding which got them close to $100,000 alone. We cut out soon after.

This was an event for the wealthy. The wealthy behave differently than the average man. Many don't seem to notice that other people exist if they don't know them. They pay little to no attention to public speakers. They dress in ways that don't look quite right but cost at least what I earn in a month. An event like this was truely an experience. The disconnect is startling at times.

On the way out they gave us a gift bag. Pretty bland stuff except for the "autographed" thank you from President's Decree, a 17 year old winner of 11 of his 85 starts, now enjoying his retirement. That I will certainly keep.

Interesting paragraph and one that I totally agree with, especially the underlined part. I’m going to ask my daughter about this next year, when she gets an official invite, via her b.f. to attend a yearly party of one of Canada’s billionaires. Although, it may be muted, because the b.f. was an insider roommate of the grandson for a few years.

There is a woman down the street, quite attractive even at 50, that is a flat out snob. That is, unless you had money and power, she wouldn’t deign to speak with you. The better ½ cottoned on to that early, even though we, and especially I, very much like and get along with her husband- who really makes the dough in the family as a marketing rep for a major American company in Canada.

I confess that I don’t rush to talk to reps from the local Trailer Park at the Spa, of which a few enter the gates, but I wouldn’t brush them off, either.

Which is a needed segue to add to Al’s blog, who kindly visited the Rookies’ posse all 4 days last weekend, plus. Al was very gracious in promising and returning with Spa caps for all of us and we enjoyed his company, even though he was tarted up one day in biz attire way more than we.

We have a routine down now, coming from Toronto, where we stop to eat in Rochester on the way down. I may have crossed Tom up by switching locales from the long time Dino’s to the Cheesecake Factory. I’d/We’d never ate in one until recently, when I went to Boston. Bottom line: HIGHLY recommended, especially for their range of entrée options, notwithstanding the Cheesecake!

We now stop both ways, prior to & returning from the Spa, at Turning Stone Casino. Perhaps, it’s the out of the way location (down I-90 from Syracuse in the middle of nowhere), but we find them to give the consistently nicest treatment of any Casino we’ve ever been in. They just acquired their liquor license in 2010, but we have constantly drank at the tables- even when there is no provision or allowance for it. They have never said anything and are very agreeable to a breakfast comp for the morning- perfect for us, coming and going.

There was only one ½ day rain at the Spa, but that wouldn’t dampen our enthusiasm. The rest of the time, the normal blazing sun and as Al can witness, we are right up front in it. I apologize to Al, but no doubt he realized, I would look like one of the Lobster dinners we ate, if I didn’t duck in and out between races.

My buddies and I have our own 2 cooler system, full of Beer, Tropicana & Vodka- Lunch of Champions and participated in by Al and another couple of friends of mine from Albany. While we are all in the same advancing age range, my group is different and varied every year. The 2011 version included a recently retired Gov worker and social democrat, much like myself and someone who works varied times and a fellow player on my former ball team. There is an uber capitalist commodities trader dealing in 6-7 figure accounts, who… can best be described as the ‘Rain Man’, his social behaviour is so odd. He gave Al a big hug for the ball cap and Al, confident in his sexuality, accepted! At one point, just before say the 5th race., he blurted out to us all: “How many women have you guys impregnated ?”:bang:

WTF? Like that, he is...

The final guy is perfectly normal, as long as he doesn’t engage in his triple addictions like smoking… stop… drinking… stop… the other smoking… stop…
Then he turns from Clark Kent into Mr. Hyde!

But… on we go and will be adding, God willing, the Monday next year, thereby comprising a week!

Grits, I did go trolling for you… Thursday & Friday & Saturday too- without success. I was completely off line during my whole time there. Confess to forgetting Sunday, but next year- encore une fois. No doubt, you will have a great time this week.

Enjoy the week, all.

Unfortunately, I was only able to join the posse three of the four days, but certainly would have enjoyed the fourth as much as I did the other 3 had I the opportunity. What can I say. Good fun, good conversation and good Canadian beer. Can't turn that down! Seriously though, the best part of Saratoga to me is meeting and hanging out with people and you guys are good people. Look forward to seeing you again next year.

I was also lobsterized, though didn't even spend half the time out there with you. I think you need to poll the crew on that one though. I think at least some of the other guys were sitting out there because they thought that's what everyone else wanted to do. Might be some room for negotiation next year on location.

Guess there is a big Pick Six carry today. Honestly not interested. Oh, I'd love to hit it, but that's kind of hard to do without betting it, which I won't do. Used to love to play the P4 and a rare P6, but I simply wasn't hitting them enough to make them worth my while. Since stopping semi regular P4 play, I've gone from beating the races but not the take, to beating both. Granted, I'm not winning by a ton, but I'm still winning and all my play since the Preakness has essentially been on house money.

The Pick Six is a big boy bet. That is why I believe it should stay at $2 minimum, at least on major circuits like NY and California. Making it into a dime bet turns it into a scratch off ticket. Players all seem to crave the "life changing score" but I have lost interest. It costs too much to even give yourself a chance. I'd rather stick to simpler bets that I can win and go home ahead. I don't need to hit a P6 to prove to the world that I am not lacking in certain physiological areas. Let the big boys have it. I'll stick to my exactas. All I need from those is 1 win in 10 to stay ahead and I feel pretty good about being able to do that.

Just my thought for the day. Would rather be thining it at the track than from behind a desk, but so goes life. For those up north, today is day one of the two day "Battle of Saratoga" $1000 per entry handicapping contest. Play should be kicking off very soon, so good luck to the players.

Nice addition Patrick. Keep us updated when you have new posts.

I'm getting out of here and heading north in about half an hour. Got the heavy duty electrical cord and multi-outlet thingee (why can't I remember the proper name....) all packed so laptop users, you are set for the week. I do need to scout the spot at the Big Red Spa for Wednesday though as I don't know what the power options are there. I will do that tomorrow so those coming that day will be prepared.

Those who are around Friday, let me know and we can hook up.

Safely back in town. Dinner at Mexican Connection. I'm stuffed! They have this cheese and jalapeno soup that was fantastic but super spicy. Had enchilladas with chorizo. Also quite yummy. Good Mexican and the prices are also very reasonable.

Nice day today. Think it was down in the 50s last night. First time I've been able to sleep without a/c in some time. Went shopping this morning. Got a couple pairs of shoes and a new wallet. Nice daily discounts at Jos. A. Bank.

Just a few picks on the day.

3) this would be a good race but it likely will be too short to bet. Would play a (2+5) box though
4) (3+4) box, 2 units if better than $30
6) 7/2+3 and (3+7) box, one unit each
7) 3/5+7 2 units

And that's all. I'm not good at claimers so today's card is mostly no play for me. Let's see if anyone picks The Vin Man today......

Did play the third. Probably shouldn't have, but Pletcher entries are so over bet, you have to take a shot against if you think you have a shot.

Came back to the house to relax. Will put in my other two bets from here. Want to handicap the contest races for tomorrow and wouldn't mind a short nap either. We are going to Augie's in Ballston Spa tonight with a group. It's one of those family style Italian places. Looking forward to it.

No joy on the day. Had 2 winners of the 4 races I bet, but couldn't get the right one underneath. With the $80 loss we have.

$879 wagered, +$217.05 for the meet

Got several plays right now for tomorrow, including a turf sprint at Monmouth (if it's paying anything) and a Pick 3 accross the Arlington races. May also have individual plays in two of the 3 races as well. Gonna hit at least one tomorrow I think! Plus we have a contest to play. Hint for now. Going against Treasure Beach in the Secretariat.

Time for an update. Wasn't able to tell you about Augie's last night as my laptop has somehow become infected with the security protection malware and I can't kill it. Damn thing is shutting down any sort of immunization routines I can get on the machine. Got rid of the .exe and a registry entry manually, but this bastard is relentless.. Anyway, got what I needed moved over to the wife's laptop and I'll take mine back to the IT guys at work to sort out as it is really theirs.

Augie's was great. Near superstitious disaster as 13 sat down for dinner, but fortunately a 14th arrived. I didn't even get to try everything we ordered but can say the chicken saltimbocca, the tri color tortellini special, and the kitchen sink (yes, that is a real thing) were spectacular. We also had veal parm (I won't eat veal anymore) the Mama's Ziti, and some sort of mussels dish, which all got consumed. It's easy to get to. Just get on Circular and keep heading south. It changes names about 8 times, but the place is on the left just the other side of Ballston Spa. It is way too small for it's popularity. Take a big group and make reservations.

Should be a beautiful day at the track. Here are my plays

Saratoga
2) 5/2+8, 2 units
4) 8/4+7, 2 units
6) 7/4+8 and a (4+7) box, 1 unit each
7) 10/6+8, and a (8+10) box, 1 unit each
8) 8/6+7 and a (7+8) box, 1 unit each if more than $30
9) 4/3+6 and a (4+6) box, 1 unit each
10) 3/4+5 and a (3+5) box, 1 unit each. Winchester is not a 12f horse.

Arlington
8) P3 some combination of 2,3,5//1,6//4,7,8,9. Likely exacta plays on first and last legs with prime choices 2//1//7

Monmouth
9) 5/3+6 and a (3+5) box, 1 unit
10) 10/1+3 and a (3+10) box, 1 unit each.

Found the Monmouth races when picking for the contest. Really love the 10 in the 10th and that one is a contest pick.

That's a lot for me though sure I will back out of a few due to scratch or price.

Fun day for day one of PA week. First the accounting. Did win $171.30 on the day. Unfortunately wagered $267, so a loss of $95.70 on the day. That head loss in the Secretariat really hurt as I would have had the better exacta twice as many times and the P3 four times instead of once with a price in leg 1. Probably about $400 changed on that. So it goes. That puts us

$1146 wagered, +$121.35 for the meet, so still up!

Had a much larger crowd than expected today, but were able to buy a second table and spread out. offtrack, Dave Schwarz and friend Jim, offtrack, Zippy Chippy, sam i am, jeebus, and both Bubbles and Grits also stopping by for a bit. Think we had some good winners today as well. Track was packed today. Give away tshirt tomorrow, so expect a big crowd despite any weather.

After the races, I headed over to Fasig Tipton as the NY Bred sales started tonight. Little nervous yearlings though must say there were som big sire names not normally associated with NY Breds on the block. Better yet, once again was able to sample the food of Angelo Mazzone. Just top emd all the way.

Overcast day, sure to be rain later. Seems that Bayesian updating has failed me. Last year offtrack and I had 2 tables pretty much to ourselves so I cut back on tables. This year a good crowd. Have to go back to two again next year for opening weekend. Hopefully we can pick up an extra today.

Not many picks for me today and rain could push that down further. Might end up with little more than a P3 on races 2-4. Well, that happens.

Have another picture from last night. Let's call it "Hip Number 007"

A bit humid today but the rain may hold off. Much bigger crowd than expected but provisions made. Big group around us kindly allowed us half of one of their tables and I also took the opportunity to clean out my trunk and get a lawn chair out.

Bet the first, 8/1+10 and a (1+8) box. Never saw the 8.....

Main bet today is a P3 1,2,5,7,8//2,4,8//1,3,5,6 with 8//8//5 being primaries. Total of $80 bet including the ever important idiot ticket. And we get the 7 home at 27-1! Interesting hour upcoming....

Andicap and don23 are in today too.

First the day's totals:$170 wagered, $446.50 returned. That takes us to $1316 wagered for the meet, +$397.85. Saw 3 or 4 races for tomorrow, so maybe we can have a big breakthrough. The wet will likely cut that back a bit though. Of course it was supposed to rain today and still hasn't....

I need to now report that I have experienced food euphoria. I hear things like this happen to women with good food, but it was a first for me. We went to Prime for dinner and it was magnificent. The place is not cheap, but it was worth every dime. We started with the Seven Hour Cherry Pepper Pork. This is a piece of pork cooked, as stated, for seven hours with cherry peppers. It has chips mixed in and topped with tomato and jack cheese. The meat just falls apart and the peppers make it spicy. I had a strip steak for dinner and the wife had the chicken parma. Both were fantastic. We orderd the jalapeno creamed corn as a side. Amazing. Mr. Mazzone was there and he sent us the sauteed spinich and the onion rings as well. Neither are things I generally like, both were great. We had to have desert at this point. Just a slice of cheesecake. At this point the euphoria began creeping over me. Yeah, it was that good. You want a truly special meal, this is the place in Saratoga to go. Nothing else comes close.

We are eating leftovers for the next couple days.....

Have a few pictures for today. Let's do a classy one first. "Sea Hero"

Now today was a giveaway day. It went very well and moved pretty quickly from what I saw. Of course I saw it all from the start this morning, so I call this one "Before the Madness". Realize this is only half of the t-shirts at one location and there are 2 separate locations.

Happy to have been able to stop by again for a few races. I wasn't there long in doing my reporting, but I was there to see sam i am revealed as the second-best handicapper in his family! I'll let Al or Dave tell the story if they want to, but it was absolutely hysterical. :faint:

Al, the Tshirt giveway sucked. Not that I like 'em so much but my son does. He's little, and the long sleeve ones are always way to long! I didn't look at the voucher, I just put it in my pocket for later. Went to get a shirt--and there were a gazillion of them--was told--couldn't have one the shirts as they were only given out until the 7th race and only extra larges left.

I see people walking with BAGS of tshirts. What a crock, I'm sorry.

The rain has wrecked my picks for the day. Only one I can state for sure is in the 8th where I will play 3/5+6 for two units though maybe I'll double down if I don't find anything else today. Will just look for prices and play some win bets I think.

Tent is pretty empty today. We scooted over one table to stay dry. Me, Dave, Jim and offtrack at the moment.

Took a shot in the second with 4/5+7 but 4 never passed a horse after being squeezed back early. May take a shot against the 11 in the 7th but other than the bet above, likely to be it for me.

Don23 and wife have arrived as well as pktruckdriver, so not a bad crowd for a rainy day.

Best Buy quoted me a price of $200 to remove that blasted &*%$#@* thing... "Security Tool", it calls itself... I powered the damn desktop off & have been using the laptop ever since... the desktop makes a good door stop.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: try hitmanpro.com (hat tip to bigmack)

It's been a life savor to more than one here...and I believe they offer a free trial...you may or may not have to run it in safe mode...best part is you don't have to install it, just download it using an uninfected PC (in case you can't access the internet on the infected PC) and run it off a USB drive...

I'll give that a try as I'm going to be at home tomorrow and have my zip drives all there. Hopefully the virus doesn't kill it as well....

Did some shopping with the wife after the races tonight so she would be all ready for Fabulous Fillies Day. Evidently Maggie has done a commercial for it on the NYRA broadcast that looked kind of funny but haven't been able to catch the whole thing yet.

Today's plays weren't terribly good. I managed to use the 4th, 5th and 6th finishers in a six horse field for one exacta play and seemingly the only front runner that imploded the whole day. Came close in the 7th though, just had that exacta backward. Was sure that 5 was getting by though.. Only $80 wagered today so that puts us at $1396 wagered, +$317.85 returned.

Just one picture for the day that all PA Toga Party regulars have known all too well. I call it "Deluge"

Just a reminder. Wednesday we are at the Big Red Spa. I just pulled out the tickets and we have tables 1 and 2. I should be there in plenty of time, but since I'm driving back up in the morning, I might be delayed. Shouldn't be, but one never knows when it comes to our interstate highway system.

Top 5 Reasons why cj's dad's cooler may not be the original

5) Spelled "Coers Light"
4) Two special holders inside to chill hockey pucks.
3) Picture of football field shows 110 yards and 20 yard end zones.
2) Side of cooler depicts logo of "Baltimore Roughriders"

Was able to clean up a lot of it, but research says this was a nasty back door virus so the computer, currently, may not be safe for anything other than playing games on. Some privaleges are still messed up. Still being denied to delete some of the files the virus corrupted. Not sure if there is much else I can do at this point but any further ideas are appreciated.

Zaf may be old enough to know this but the Baltimore Satllions won the Grey Cup in 19--?. Only American based team to do that. The NFL would not let us call the franchise the "Colts".

Looking really forward to seeing you all on Thursday and our annual trip to the harness track on Friday.

I remember that one actually, but was too lazy to look up the name they ended up playing under. Besides, aren't all their teams named Roughriders these days? It was 1995. They lost in the finals the year before. They moved to Montreal as the Alouettes, mark 3, and have been very successful since.

Made it back right on schedule despite heavier than expected traffic and some fog. See if I can stay awake through the card though....Looks like a beautiful day though the soaking rain appears to have moved at least some races off the turf already. I am so on that when we go to the racino Friday. Nice track.

Very few picks today.
4) 1/6+8 and a (1+8) box, one unit each. Dixieland Cowgirl gets one more try before she gets the watch list boot.
5) (3+6) box, 2 units, but needs to pay $30, which it may not
7) I like the 3, so might be able to make something here
9) 6-5 straight, 4 units. Need at least $15

What a beautiful day. Bad Company and Track Collector joined us today. Grits and joeyp stopped by as well. I finished up again, but mostly due to lack of betting and did pass on two winning exactas. Only winner was a double with my horses from the 4th and 5th I decided to play because I had so few plays. Today's total was $70 bet and $85.60 returned, so a winner, though small.

$1466 wagered, +$333.45 returned.

Back in a bit with the very appropriate picture of the day.

Back at last. Connection got a little flakey last night but we seem to be ok now. Looks nice out right now, though chance of summer showers the next few days. None of that deluge stuff.

Missed the gym this morning. Stopped at the Turf Club on Nelson and Union after the races and had a couple more beers than would allow a 6am wake up. This is new ownership, run now by Beverly of Beverly's fame. Food is much better now than the place that was there before, so give it a try.

Oh yes, yesterday's picture of the day. In honor of our location yesterday. I call it, "Tributary of the Styx" (Remember we are back at Festival Tent for the rest of the week)

Some early picks for the day

2) yeah, I'm playing a jump race. See how well class handicapping does here. 6/2+8 and a (6+8) box, 1 unit each
5) 2/7+8 2 units
9) 8/4+7 2 units. Enough speed here that old Banrock may get one last hurrah.
10) 5/6+9 and a (5+9) box one unit each. May also play a late double with all 3 from 9th and top two from 10th

Looks like only the 7th is off the turf today, though scratches on a softish turf (it is listed Good) may come into play

Dear OTM Al and all the Pace Advantage group,

We made it home safely, and in record time. Wish some of the horses I bet had moved that fast. We had a great time, and the wife's show bets made a profit for the meet.

Maybe there's a lesson there. I should bet my picks to show as well. But I'd rather bet the other end of the horse.

I'm looking forward to next year, and hope you have room for me at the tables.

Here's a hint for next year, Don. My group has been coming to the Spa for at least a decade consecutively and probably a few off and on before that. After beating our brains in individually the first year, we decide on a collective decision: so much per race and run like a hockey/baseball pool. Those who get the first choiceinRace 1, fall to the bottom in Race 2. That way one of US is always a winner and potentially a doible winner with carryovers. We've refined it to disallow small fields/ 4-5s, etc. So, just get yourself a small group pf 3-5 and away you go.

Amazingly, you can STILL drink and eat there while doing this...

Another day in the books and it couldn't have been nicer. Several new arrivals today as the gathering goes into full swing. cj's dad, Joe Prunes, GatetoWire, Tom, mabred (and son) and Ted Craven (and even more importantly Ted's mom) were in attendance today with the regulars. No big hits I know of though Track Collecter did hit a nice exacta and cj's dad as usual was hitting a few at Woodbine.

TLG had his promotion today but was foiled in the first leg by one that was so hard to have no one at the tables with all their different systems picked out as a top contender. Track Collector did throw him in to get that exacta score, though he did admit it wasn't a top choice. The P6 is just plain a tough tough bet, so good job to Andy. Get 'em next year.

Walked a bit after the races and ended up having some Indian at Karavalli. Good stuff. They are a little slow right now as they seem short staffed, but it certainly hasn't affected the food. I'm stuffed!

And now the picture for the day. I call it "Pace Advatage, Accept no Substitute"

Morning looks ok so far but news is saying a chance of scattered showers. Well, it is summer time, so such things are to be expected.

A few early picks for the day
1) 7/1+5, 2 units
5) 9/7+8, 2 units
7) 8/3+7 and a (3+8) box, 1 unit each
8) 2/4+6, 2 units
10) 7/2+8 and a (2+7) box, 1 unit each

Haven't really loved anyone for the past few days and don't much today either though do like my primary choices in the last two.

Today at the track is Fabulous Fillies day, so all races are for fillies and there is a breast cancer research event going on. Be aware at least one race will use the pink saddle cloths, so go old school and pay attention to the silks of your picks.
