I read Josh Hamilton tossed the ball into the stands to that ill-fated fan, which led to the accident...wow...apparently, the guy was talking and moving his arms while he was being taken out on a stretcher...he was telling the medical staff to check on his son up in the stands...but he went into cardiac arrest on the way to the hospital and died shortly thereafter...

Bummer of an incident; gotta feel bad for Josh Hamilton, who is probably much affected by this even though he's hardly to blame.

took a day of PTO today to take care of errands and chores, been listening to the radio talkshows about the tragedy, the guy in the white shirt next to him was on the air talking about the whole deal...his kid yelled "daddy!" when the guy fell head first, knowing something good wasn't going to be the outcome.

The words 'dad' and 'daddy' have much different meanings....when kids are young and they use that "daddy" in fear or horror it's painful to even think about.

the kid was apparenttly consoled by people around him telling him his dad was gonna be ok....so sad. a baseball ain't worth that much.

Noticed he caught the ball before he fell. Only hope someone eventually delivered to his son.

Kind of strange that the dopey announcers found it humorous.

the mom said the dad and boy stopped and bought the glove on the way to the game cause the dad had told the kid he was gonna catch him a foul ball.

you hear and see stuff like this and it just rips your guts out.

hamilton is devastated.

The few times I've been to modern stadiums, I've noticed that the raillings are far too low, at least for someone tall & top heavy like myself. The railings usually meet my leg just below the buttock. Most of my weight is at or above my waist. I get concerned about getting bumped and backing in to the railings and going over. Not keen on the steep rising rows of seats - essentially no railing or seat back on one side in case of problems, and trying to move down a row with people filling seats in that row is difficult, at least to me, fear of losing balance and falling.

I imagine they keep the railing low to now block people's view in the front row or two, but too low and this is a possible concequence. This guy didn't have to lean too far forward to get over the rail (seemed too row - typical) and he threw his weight and long part of body over, and once he tipped over, with too young child to stop him, and competing guy going for the ball, over and down he went.

How many times have we seen dufuses fall over the rail on the field level trying to get the foul ball (they get escorted out for doing that) and many others who lean over the rail to snag foul balls and/or interfere with a down the line fair ball?

Somethings isn't right with many modern designs vs views nowdays.

Uggggh....

I had a crazy similar fall about a week ago at night, in the pitch black, at a friend's cottage, flipping over the side of a small deck with no guard rail installed.

Could have easily been this result. Shaking...

My heart goes out- terrible tragedy.

oh how horrible and heartbreaking, that a father and son fun day could turn so quickly into a family tragedy.
