We always hear that there are no positive threads about Obama. Well here is one.

Let's give him an attaboy for finally doing something about illegal immigration from Mexico. His policies are really working as the flow of illegal immigrants is at a virtual standstill.

http://www.outsidethebeltway.com/illegal-immigration-from-mexico-at-lowest-level-in-nearly-60-years/#comments
Douglas S. Massey, co-director of the Mexican Migration
Project at Princeton, an extensive, long-term survey in Mexican emigration
hubs, said his research showed that interest in heading to the United States
for the first time had fallen to its lowest level since at least the 1950s. “No
one wants to hear it, but the flow has already stopped,” Mr. Massey said,
referring to illegal traffic. “For the first time in 60 years, the net traffic
has gone to zero and is probably a little bit negative.”

Who knew that there was such a clever reason why Obama made a shambles of our economy. By making the business environment so horrible, even illegals aren't interested and see no opportunity here and choose to stay home in Mexico.

why should they risk coming here to work when all they have to do is wait for the American Companies to open up there?

Sooner or later wages will go up in Mexico, China etc.

Say what?

With all due respect, your post misses the mark.

Wages in at least 2 of the BRIC countries are going up. And so is inflation.

Most of the jobs taken by illegals are not corporate jobs.

If there is a decrease in the flow of illegals across our borders, I'd look at the sectors and industry that typically employees them. Construction comes to mind.

Companies have left Mexico for other more favorable situations.

Construction is slow in the Baltimore-DC corridor. However, even when not busy, most of the semi-skilled jobs are held by Mexicans and some by Central Americans; jobs such as framing and drywall, paving, roofing, masonry, painting, and flooring. The skilled trades (Electrical, Plumbing, HVAC, etc..) are still dominated primarily by whites with a slight % of Af.- Americans.

At least in this area.

Pretty soon Americans will have to go to Mexico in order to find work.

Heck yeah, he nailed this one. Touché, BO.

With the exception of mosty (who is a one-man BO glee club) you never see any BO supporters talking about his accomplishments.

Best start greasin' the Schwinn. BO'll be aimlessly ridin' 'round Michigan Ave in no time.

My theory is that every one of them that wanted to come is now here, so the rest of them are either too lazy, have a job in their homeland, such as the countless number working in the drug trade, or actually like their homeland more than the U.S.

go to Mexico to hire cheap labor. Cheap labor is the motive for moving to Mexico, so why should Mexicans continue to come here ,when the jobs are slowly going to Mexico? At some point if makes no sense to cross the border.

It makes more sense to work in Mexico and organize to get wages up.

For many Mexicans I believe that is true, that there are a growing number of opportunities now to work for a European, US or even Japanese corporation and earn a decent wage. Our Mexico office is booming, supporting the US customers who have opened factories down there.

Maquiladoras-export assembly plants, are low-pay with sweatshop conditions. An illegal in the States can make three times what these plants typically pay per day.

Most organized labor in Mexico is a sham. The companies themselves pay labor organizers to control unions.

cat's out of the bag, people. in dallas and fw public hi schools, latinos are the plurality. the HS i attended in ftw, there are now 2% white kids attending.

before we moved to fw, we lived in lakewood (dallas) which at the time (1960s) you could choose between woodrow and hillcrest, most chose hillcrest. back then it was 100% white and the avg sat scores were 2nd highest in the nation for a public shool. now it's embarassing low.

something has to happen, but maybe it's too late. illegal immigrants have dragged the educational system down here terribly. many come to school not knowing the english langauage, these kids drag everyone else down to the pit....this isn't racial- it's reality. something has to be done to save the educational system here. first step is to take illegals back across the border and keep them OUT

what about tomorrow? I would bet on unions getting stronger there rather then weaker. Wages there will raise.

In the last twelve years I've spent in Mexico wages have risen not because of unions but in spite of them. Prior to that, Mexico was ruled by one party and was a very socialist country. It's only been in the last 10 years that things have turned around a bit.

What's scary is that the U.S. seems headed in the other direction.

of it. My primary point is that wages in Mexico will increase while jobs are exported to Mexico, so why risk life and limb to keep coming here? The method by which increases could be minimum wage laws , independent action by workers, leaders outside the unions raise to power. Lots of variables but wages will go up.

Look At Nike. If you are looking for cheap labor you have to keep on the move. Article from Global Exchange (link to entire article is at the bottom.) Vietnam is the newest sight of production.

.

" Where does Nike produce its shoes?

During the 1970's, most Nike shoes were made in South Korea and Taiwan. When workers there gained new freedom to organize and wages began to rise, Nike looked for "greener pastures." It found them in Indonesia, China, and most recently Vietnam--countries where protective labor laws are poorly enforced and cheap labor is abundant. Also in China and Vietnam, the law prohibits workers from forming independent trade unions. This was also true in Indonesia until 1998, when dictator General Suharto was overthrown. These three countries continue to be the major places where Nike shoes are made."

China and Vietnam of all places, thank god for SOCIALIST AND COMMUNIST or else CAPITALIST would have to produce products at home.
