Excerpt:

The 2012 Breeders’ Cup World Championships will be held at one of three locations, Breeders’ Cup Ltd. Chairman Tom Ludt said Friday afternoon.

The finalists are Belmont Park, Churchill Downs, and Santa Anita Park, which together after this year will have played host to six of the past seven Breeders’ Cup events and nine of the past 12.

I hope it goes to Belmont. How many years in a row has it been that NYRA thought they had a verbal agreement just to see it go to someone else?

The best venue proven over the years is Churchill. It needs to go where the fans will support it the best. My vote is Churchill.

I think they might go Santa Anita for 2012. Of course they will see handle drop because of the boycott of takeout increases and I sure won't bet it if its there.

Any track than the mess that is Santa Anita. Maybe if they can get the dirt right but seems like they are clueless how to do that.

Belmont. The slots will be rolling at the Big A and the house is in order. SA had it "08 & '09, CD had it '10 & '11 , its Belmonts time now for '12.

Santa Anita screwed up the dirt surface so until it's proven to be better than the last meeting I think the Breeders Cup will pass on 2012. It is more likely that Santa Anita will have good weather than the other venues. That's a major factor.

I'd like to see it moved around. I think the three locations should alternate instead of one having it more than the others. That seems fair to me.

I vote for Belmont--and move it up 1 month...

If any track other than Churchill Downs gets the Breeders Cup, it will be just another nail in its' coffin. The other venues don't get the fan support and the weather seems to be more of an issue when they do host the event.

you know what, i said that but then after i posted that i thought..

man, i don't see how the BC can turn away the profits they made last year. they would be just pissing money in the wind if they went anywhere besides churchill

Belmont would be idea. NY racing fans came out with a strong showing at the Belmont. Considering there was no triple crown chance and it was raining this was all the more impressive.

I like the idea of alternating venues every year. Why has the BC been going to tracks for two years in a row?

Why will the event be less successful at BEL?

Proven lack of fan support vs support at Churchill. Do the math.

I want it to be at belmont and they deserve it and it is their turn. The problem is the nyra will not prostitute itself or its tracks and definetly not kiss the breeders cup's ass. That being said i think it will go to churchill.I will boycott it as i did the 2 yrs S.A. had it if they get it again.I urge all handicappers to do the same.

is the take out set at whatever track the Cup races are held? Or does Breeders cup have its own take out rates?

Churchill is the ideal host. Make it permanent.

The take goes by the usual rate at whichever track hosts the event. As far as the original question, I'd like to see Belmont get it, but wouldn't have a problem with it being at Churchill. I'd prefer not to see it at Santa Anita.

Churchill is the ideal host. Make it permanent. Why not just close every other track in the nation but Churchill and race there year round, 24/7?

I don't understand this mentality. Belmont has been a fine host and has provided many a memorable Breeders' Cup.

The weather can SUCK at Churchill too...and STILL you can have amazing, memorable racing, such as Personal Ensign in 1988...

The first BC at Churchill ended in near darkness on a rainy miserable afternoon.
I think the temperature never got out of the 40's....
Just checked....HI was 54. Low 39.....rain and fog.
Funny thing....The temps at Louisville and Elmont, NY are almost identical for the first week of November. Based on climate norms, weather is actually not an issue

The weather may be more or less the same, but the Belmont grandstand faces north/north east and casts a long shadow that time of year. If there's a wind you can be pretty exposed. Churchill on the other hand is SE facing.

Still, I'd prefer Belmont over CD. Would be nice the turf races on a course bigger than 7f for a change.

Reopen Pinnacle Race Course for it! They could get an attendance of 150, a handle of $60,000 and fields of 5, 6, maybe even 7 horses!

(I joke, but it is really sad that we can't have nice things here)

Why not Yavapai?

Weather is a big issue for me. I hate to see racing champions decide on a sloppy track. Does any one think that the years Belmont Stakes means anything in this championship picture. Southern California holds the best hope of getting a fast track and a firm turf course. But it has so many other problems, I don't know. Belmont will be a racino by then. Has a Racino ever hosted the cup? I don't like CD and almost never bet there. Last years Life at Ten debacle was not a plus for them and the way Kentucky handled the investigation was an absolute joke. I voted for SA, but I would understand if they went some place else.

Because it would take the braintrust until November, 2018 to determine whether or not they had the money to run the 2012 card.

Correct. The sun does set behind the Belmont Grandstand. Remember Dayjur when the horse jumped the shadow of the announcer's booth. The start of a very weird and tragic Breeder's Cup day at Belmont.
One of my main objections to one mile ovals getting BC events is the 7f turf courses.
