a post about a filly racing tomorrow at the meadowlands caused me to look at the entries.

in the same race as the above mentioned filly, i saw a colt named "Man O'War". i saw another, less than average harness horse, named Secretariat a few years ago and i've seen t-breds with little ability named after great harness horses.

i've thought it took a lot of nerve to name a horse after a great one and since the names have to be approved, feel the governing agency should not allow it as a sign of respect to the original.

any thoughts ?

I completely agree....what poor taste.
I know there's a rule of some sort preventing horses with certain accomplishments (division champ?) from having their names used again for a number of years (if ever), but it obviously doesn't pertain to horses of another breed.

It does not apply to other breeds or other countries
