Came out of the race with an ankle injured and they found a chip.
Should be having surgery shortly and then he's likely on the bench for
a while.

someone asked about his forecast and i said - if he comes out sound...

really a TOUGH couple of classics for Nehro
Derby(ran 88feet more ground than Shackleford and finished a length in front)
Belmont asked to close going 12 furlongs in the mud- and he actually ran a little harder as he passed the wire!

Shack was on the dead inside, don't think that 88 feet was an advantage.

On Derby day, I (and many others) think the rail was pretty dead. I'm not one to say many tracks are biased either.

I was talking to a small time owner who was betting at the otb in Md and asked him about how Churchill was playing that day. (as I hadnt seen any races) He said very fair; horses coming from the middle and outside....

which to me meant that yeah, that inside part is probably pretty dead and look for closers. Damascus in 1967 sort of fell victim to that or perhaps he just didnt fire or something. The Giacamo surface in 2005 definitely seemed to be playing that way..Little Current in 1975?

Wasn't there a pace meltdown thanks to Spanish Chestnut et al in 2005? Not sure if that had much to do with the rail or not. As for '67 and '75... file not found :)

Not looking it up I'm pretty sure the pace in 2005 was utterly suicidal going out in 46 and change or low 47s... A meltdown was expected in that race.

Right but winners were coming from the middle/outside of the track both during that race as well as the other races at CD that day. Alex in the final strides made for the inside but made up no ground from there...
