Yesterday, new job numbers came out again. Another 422,000 people applied for first time unemployment in the past seven days. These weekly unemployment claim numbers have not been below 370,000 in the past year and have been over 400,000 per week all year except for a slight period in February and March of this year. In fact, since April 8, they have been well over 400,000 per week (http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/quote?ticker=INJCJC:IND).

In the same twelve month period, the unemployment rate has hovered between 8.8% and 9.6% (http://www.nidataplus.com/lfeus1.htm). It has only been below 9% for two months and seems to be heading back up as it rose from 8.8 to 9.0% in April.

Where are the jobs that we suppose to get from extending the Bush tax cuts. I seem to remember the republicans and the rich promising us a boom if we just extended them.

Maybe the tax cuts are keeping things from being even worse!

New construction going on in my neighborhood in Chicago (Sheridan & Foster).

Some regions obviously have it worse than others.

I totally agree. And, we probably would be out of this recession completely now if that damn stimulus wasn't passed.

Frank,
Thank you for having a website that is cool and interesting and then coming here to share it with us and also posting here with us. Now for the rest of my post.

I have a very hard time understanding how a good man can not rise to the occasion when his country needs him to, but instead push socialism against the will of the people, failed in other country's all over the globe. The main qualification for being a President of these United States of America is being a good man, and being born here. What a complete crock of shit this administration has been selling us down the river, and the shit for brains that continue to support a complete failure who does not have our best interest at heart.

You wouldn't know socialism if it sneaked up behind you and bit you on the butt. Most of what you think are socialist countries are in fact capitalist countries with a conscience. Countries like Sweden, Denmark and Holland which understand the value of their citizens and don't think that a privileged elite should control all the value of the nation. These countries are successful not because they are Socialist or because they are capitalist, but because they are a balance of the two.

Here's something that can be proven. When your boy was trying like hell to sell his bailouts, he said that by now unemployment would be below 7 percent. Frigging mcdonalds carried the jobs load in this last report. Keynesian principles were going to rule the day. What the hell happen to this great recovery he promised?

Instead he gives us the double dip that was predicted by many

Keep burying your head in the sand and this dumbass just might pull off a Jimmy Carter...........

Kudlow's stand-in made it very graphic on the program tonight. Of coarse, the administration will blame it all on bad data they used as a basis for their projections. And, it's all Bush's fault -- ya, ya, that's the ticket.

You want what these countries offer, go there enjoy some reefer with your tea then stop by some window shops to view some whores on display on main street. The fact is that more than half of our country wants no part of it as you will see in the next election.

Really? Where?

As for mosttoastie's reference to "privileged elites" controlling the "value of a nation," Euros most certainly do have them. They are unelected bureaucrats controlling nearly every aspect of their citizens' lives.

Bullshit,

If you want these United States of America to become like some other country leave and do not let the door slap you in the ass on the way out. This country all throughout the years has been unlike any other place on the globe with everyone wanting a better life in the United States. You are so full of shit that you should have a Mosty meter.

Of the three countries mentioned, I believe, that only Holland has legalized marijuana and prostitution. Amsterdam has a 'red light' district for control of licensed prostitution which includes monthly medical testing.

Legalizing marijuana on the federal level will decriminalize an activity that is passive and will produce revenue. Many states have legalized marijuana for medical treatment. Tobacco and alcohol are more threatening to health and welfare. But, the method of packaging allows for taxation.

Back to the thread: what to do about creating jobs.

Name one place that has a weaker central government than the United States that is a decent place to live.

That's your perception.

The expansion of the federal government was anticipated by the founders. That is what the 10th amendment is about.

What so called conservatives want is to have the government obey the rules: to be limited to what the constitution outlines, nothing more and nothing less.

What you fail to grasp is the underpinings of our country: a collect of states -- the United States of America. If everything eventually devolves to a central government why in the hell do we still have states?

I don't know of any conservative that pines for leadership from warlords and tribal chiefs. Try again.

Tom
06-04-2011, 10:40 AM
Comparing states to tribes is stretching it.
We have states because there never has been a Federal government capable of managing the country. The role of the Fed is limited by Constitution because it is not equipped to handle the vast local issues, issues best run by those who live there. But we need a central thread, like the body need blood, to support the vital organs. Limited Federal power is essential to our success.

Too many are looking to the gubmint to give them much, for nothing. What's the % of people now that pay no fed income tax? What political party do those individuals lean towards typically? Those are the people that want a Fat gubmint structure.

US house price fall 'beats Great Depression slide'

</EM>

By Stephen Foley

Wednesday, 1 June 2011

The ailing US housing market passed a grim milestone in the first quarter of this year, posting a further deterioration that means the fall in house prices is now greater than that suffered during the Great Depression.

The brief recovery in prices in 2009, spurred by government aid to first-time buyers, has now been entirely snuffed out, and the average American home now costs 33 per cent less than it did at the peak of the housing bubble in 2007. The peak-to-trough fall in house prices in the 1930s Depression was 31 per cent – and prices took 19 years to recover after that downturn.

The latest Case-Shiller house price index was just one of a slew of disappointing economic data from the US yesterday, which suggested ebbing confidence in the recovery of the world's largest economy. The Chicago PMI manufacturing index showed a sharp slowdown in the pace of expansion in May, missing Wall Street forecasts and sending the index to its lowest since November 2009.

Their "job"? They'd post non stop on OT sections of horse racing boards..... Paste talking points from liberal websites. Act like knowitallls, call most all successful people evil or dishonest. Deflect when they can't give a straight up answer. Gets caught & called out in his own lies daily. Posts 8+ paragraph posts that lead nowhere.

That'd be my guess...
