Doubt it.

NCAA is still going to drop the hammer on that school pretty heavily don't think a guy like Meyer is going to want to inherit what is going to be there in two years.

Good thing he got all those kids under suspension to return to OSU and stick together...so he could then resign a few months later.
They missed the NFL draft.

I have no problem with these kids selling memorabilia or getting discounted tattoos given how the BCS is run. It's all about the money. One of the main reasons to go to college is so you can gain knowledge to go out into the world and make a difference and also make money.

The BCS is about one thing -- MONEY.

College football coaches at big schools command million dollar salaries.

What quality of education do football players in Div I get? Probably not as good as Harvard student on an academic scholarship. For many Div I players the goal is to play in the NFL. Meanwhile, the schools are raking in millions in memorabilia sales, ticket sales and TV contracts. Why shouldn't these players get paid hard cash money for their services?

Tressel gets in hot water over his players getting some discounted tattoos or some car loans? I say it's no big deal -- it's peanuts.

Yes it may be peanuts to you but the rules and regulations are clear and if the coaching staff cannot monitor what is going on on campus then they will eventually pay the price and in this case it will be a big hit to this program. Many would say how could this happen at OSU, it can happen anywhere.
Just a quick comment on football players and D1 educations, many have done quite well after their college football days were over.

Tressel resigns and will move on, relatively unscathed, to another prestigious position while players who never knew him pay his atonement.

Agreed. He'll resurface somewhere, maybe the pros. His name will be floated for every opening after next season.

I agree. They should follow the rules. However, the rules should have been changed a long time ago. The way rules get changed is that everyone ignores them.

No doubt some players get excellent educations.

Here's what the NFL should do: 1.) Start their own university league. 2.) Require any player who plays in this league and does NOT already have an associates degree to maintain a "C" average and stay in this league until they have an associates degree or maybe reach a certain age. 3.) A player without a degree and is say 20 years of age or younger must first play in the University League before they are eligible to be drafted.

Obviously, this could be tweaked to work better, but you get the idea. Players could earn while they learn -- maybe not salaries as big as in the NFL -- but a salary nontheless. The best of both worlds.

my sources in Columbus tell me that Tressel has been rumored to quit all week.

Sports Illustrated is supposedly ready to drop a bomb on the program and QB Pryor has been caught in a bunch of other shit. He may never wear the uniform again according to my sources.

Btw, these sources weren't kind enough to let me in on any of this shit until I sent them a text this morning..........some sources huh? :bang:

Kind of a weak story. I was expecting some serious offenses. Trading memorabilia for tattoos does not seem like the worst thing in the world.

A couple of guys allegedly got cars, but not once was the make of the cars mentioned.

One would hope the Dept of Justice would have bigger fish to fry. I assume some of these agents and their managers are making close to $100k per year plus benefits. Is going after college football programs and offshore gambling businesses the best they can do?

Government is definitely too big and wasteful. This is not the way I want my tax dollars spent.

Yep, After reading the piece, I am even more pissed Tressel quit.

He should have made them fire him.......which they would have done anyway.

It's all crap........ Btw, they make it sound like these guys were living it up at this Tattoo shop. Let me tell you something......that shop and that whole area of town is a crap hole. Especially the location of the first Tat shop.

"The Bottoms" is the shit hole of the city. And the location of the 2nd shop is not much better. It wasn't too bad 50 years ago when I was running those streets......but it's awful now.

It has nothing to do with the perks they received it has everything to do with the fact Tressel knew and lied about it on more than one occassion. That is the reason for the resignation instead of facing a firing squad!

as a die hard razorback fan, you want to talk about someone pissed off at the sugar bowl which I went to. the kids never should have played in the game. they had 9 freaking ineligible players in the game. 9.

agreed. But what a bullshit trivial thing. Trading jerseys and programs for Tats, they should have better things to do.

Btw, at least 5 coaches in the NFL had their sphincter's tighten when they read Tressel had quit. The Browns have been trying to get him for years.....now's their chance

Pryor has had more than 6 cars since he has been at ohio state lol including a vette. this is all documented stuff that is coming out, that's what came out last night

when the FBI informed tressell on the 13th of December of last year he said he was not aware of any of what was going on and this was all new to him. he told the NCAA the same thing. in light of this, they let the players, start their suspensoin AFTER the sugar nbowl, which was 3 weeks away.

he also told the NCAA back in september that he was not aware of any infractions within his program

to boot the complince director, the guy at the scholol that makes sure no one is breaking the rules, said he was not aware of players being given cars, and the guy who sold them the cars says he has records of at least 40 -50 phone calls bewteen him and the director that says otherwise

ohio state is in deep doo doo.

NCAA take the attitude that players will be players and when they catch them, they will deal with them. But when paid employees of the university know about a rules violation they expect the university to take action. When they don't then the university is in deep trouble. Right or wrong, that is the way it is now. I expect when all is said done that OSU will get a USC type of punishment.

I had a friend who used to say that the SEC's motto is "If you ain't cheatin,' you ain't tryin." ...Except this time it was an SEC team that got raw end of the deal.

In regards to some of the other comments made, I agree some of the NCAA regulations are ridiculous, and while I don't think players should get paid, the system is really messed up. However, the NCAA being screwy is not an excuse for schools to break the rules. I know a guy who just got his law degree and has been applying for jobs in the compliance offices of different BCS conference schools. It is very competitive to find a job like that because compliance is such a big deal right now. The employees and coaches know what is legal and what is not, but some still choose to ignore it.

Arkansas has always been a relativity clean program. we had some issues in the late 90's with basketball recruiting but it was minor in comparison to this stuff.

You keep Petrino long enough, and at least one wheel will come off the tracks. The guy had more players in the Louisville court system than a mafia boss. When that no-coaching Kragthorpe took over the program, he booted 20 something guys off the team, all with wrap sheets or the inability to find classrooms on campus.

Mike Vrabel epitomized what it meant to be a Patriot during the Belichick-Brady era. You can put him up there with Troy Brown, Tedy Bruschi and Kevin Faulk as players who embody the essence of the Patriot Way. He was a tough, smart, versatile football player.

Vrabel announced his retirement today after 14 NFL seasons, which included eight with the Patriots and the last two with the Kansas City Chiefs. He's taking a job at his alma mater, Ohio State, as linebackers coach, naturally.
