Interesting in that this guy has a horse racing connection. Wonder how much he puts into the pools:

Sorry to disappoint guys, but since Don and I are friends, I hesitate to say very much beyond congratulations to him.

However, I do have a great Don Johnson story that I am sure he would not mind me telling.

Me, Beth and two of her girlfriends went to Las Vegas to see Celine Dion as Don's guests. It was year two (as I recall) of Celine's run and good seats were about impossible to find. Unless you are Don Johnson. The seats were great - would have cost us about $3,200 on eBay. (Recently they were almost that much for each seat!)

This story is not about Celine, although it was truly the greatest show I ever saw (and I am not a Celine fan).

This story is about our next meeting together. Kind of appropriate considering the timing (which you will understand shortly).

A couple of months after the Celine show we were having dinner in a New York restaurant with Don and some other racing guys. Now, you have to understand that Don is a very connected guy in the Las Vegas world and these connections spread elsewhere.

We were talking about our Celine trip and Don was saying that it was too bad he wasn't there because he and Renee are friends ("We play Blackjack together"). He went on to say that we could have met Celine.

I said, "Well, here is the next challenge for you. Beth wants to go to Oprah's show."

Don says, "I'll have to think on that one for awhile. That's a tough one."

Meanwhile, conversation around the table goes on to other issues. Don is just being silent not participating at all. As I recall we killed a bottle of Cognac that night (that was about $800 per bottle; nice to have friends with good taste!).

Suddenly, like 5 minutes later, he says, "Okay, I think I've got this figured, but I've got one question: What will Beth do on the show?"

I said, "What are you talking about?"

"Well," he says, "I think I can get her on, but what will she talk about? Is she selling a book or something?"

I said, "She doesn't want to be ON the show, she wants TICKETS to the show!"

"Oh, that's easy!"

Well, the punch line is that getting tickets to Oprah was actually very difficult. Beth never got to go. It is safe to assume that she never will. :(

In closing, Don is a great guy, knows a lot about a lot.

Wow about Don Johnson & the stories, both the blackjack table and knowing the actor! I only knew the left-handed bowling pro Don Johnson years ago (great guy too, from the Quad Cities), not the more famous right-handed one (the famous 299 game on TV in the late 60's/early 70's)
