He was a fixture at Roosevelt and Yonkers when I played there in the '70's. Sorry to hear the news.

I only met him briefly a few times but everybody seemed to like him and he was a heck of a driver. He had a great smile, made him look like someone who knew how to enjoy life.

Saint Buddy was taunting other drivers during the the race and past the wire. That's my definition of class. I know --- it was 28 years ago. Let it go, Toe.

I'll never forget that Sept 18, 1975 exacta on which two strangers collected $28,000. The exacta paid $32.70 for $3. Gilmour won the race with 5-1 shot, Conroy Duke, Ken McNutt came second with 7-5 favorite, Doctor Northrup, and Ben Webster was accused of blocking the rest of the field.

Afterwards, Buddy failed a lie detector test, and then gave the excuse that he flunked the test because he was *drunk.*

That said, I never saw a better driver on a half-mile track with the money down and I've seen them all for 45 years.
