It seems that in pool 2, the exacta was 24 over 24 yet there was not the ability to wager on this particular combination. I loved the 24 and used 'him' all over the place, but wasnt given the option to wager on this bet.

Did CD just keep all the money and not have a payout? If there was no winners in the exacta, don't they have to pay out 24 with all?

The same thing happened with Pool 1 and the Oaks exacta. If an unlisted horse (ALL) wins, they pay the exacta out to the closest finishing listed horse. In all three cases it ended up being the third place finisher (Derby - MuchMachoMan ; Oaks - Zazu) as the runner up was unlisted in for Pool 1, Pool 2, and Oaks.

So you're saying that the winning combo in Pool 2 was 24 over 12?

yes.

Pool 1 - 24-13 $230.00
Pool 2 - 24-12 $338.20
Pool 3 - 1 -12 $3,074.60

I tried to find this defined in rules but don't have time this morning. It's not in the FAQ section on the KentuckyDerby.com site.

Thanks. You're right, i checked the equibase chart of the Derby and its listed right in the charts. I was searching on the Ky Derby website and found nothing. I guess they just assume everyone knows they're paying off the winner with the 3rd horse in the exacta.

This shouldn't be surprising, it's the way any exacta would be paid out when two parts of an entry or a field run one-two.

35-40 years ago I hit some dynamite Exactas coupling the 1 and 1A. I have no idea when this was eliminated as an option.

The Derby Future Pools ought to have a 24-24 option next year.

If you can get lucky with a few combos, the field is a very strong play in the futures exacta pool.
The earlier the pool, the stronger it is (hit rate rather than $ return).
Anyone make some money over the past few years with this?

Its time to do away with the 'field' and have every triple crown nominee available in the pool. Why they don't do this now is anyone's guess.

Agree.

Because there might be some (a lot of) uncovered combinations, with small consolation payoffs? Because there might be just one hit for a huge payoff, which does nothing for churn? Because there would still be a need for an "All Others" in the case of supplemental nominations? Those are just some of my "anyone's" guesses.

I don't see where having every nominee in the pool is a step up. Do racing fans have to complain about every single thing? Is it a nature or nurture thing?
