They ran faster going backwards than they did going for the lead.

I played a 1-8 1-8 10-14-10-14 superfecta. I was disgusted when I saw the 16 win until I heard the name. I put 2 to win on Animal Kingdom in the futures round 2. I'm the last of the big time spenders. Still waiting for the payoff too much traffic for the website to handle.

Well as usual I got a lump of coal. Didn't have animal kingdom. It was some other 16.

Midpackers and late runners have been doing well today; I'm guessing this factored into it somewhat.

Yeah once Shackleford made the front and Comma To the Top didn't I knew some of the riders were instructed to take back.

Don't think a horse has gone wire to wire on the dirt all day.

One gate-to-wire winner: Baffert's heavily favoured maiden in the 3rd, and he hung on by less than a length even though the cuts were pedestrian.

Further, of 18 exacta placings on the dirt today, only four went to horses running 1st/2nd/3rd at the first call.

One thing I notice having read the thread. You know these ratings E; E/P; P, S, C. they all seem to be about one category too fast for derby day.

How many horses listed as "C" in this race? One? I think. reality is due to the immense field there are typically 5 or 6 horses actually running as closers. Actually more than that are 5+ lengths behind at the turn (maybe 10?) but 5 or 6 legit well off the pace types.

Same for stalkers. So for every S, I count that as a closer.

Every E/P I count as a presser. Every P I count as a stalker. And the numbers at least seem to come out right. (based on historical stats by my own count, its usually 1/2 or a little less closers win, 1/4 stalk, and 1/4 press/front runner. Very few front runners: Spendabuck and the Dutrow horse are the only ones I recall.

Does anyone else think it out this way? or just me.

Yeah they followed Hildas Passion down that speed sink hole, why did they have Nehro so close up ?

Shackleford, after his last race figured to make the lead. JR nailed it in another thread.

Not to tap myself on the back too hard, because I bollocked this race pretty bad, but I said last night in the chat that I thought the pace would be soft and that Shackleford would set it. I screwed everything else up, but I had that.
